Seaview Part 3 - Lunar models Seaview final build

I made my first Seaview out of a paper towel tube, cardboard, and masking tape back in '65.

I can't tell you how many Jupiter 2's I made out of Paper, cardboard, papermache, moms saucer plates.. So I know the determination of wanting and making something you want. 😆

@@lewilsons If we wanted this stuff, in the early days, we had to make it ourselves. The Remco type toys never looked anything like what was on TV. By the time merchandisers figured this out, I was too hold to play with these.

I built the Aurora black plastic Seaview when it came out. It made many a cruise in the bathtub.

Hello, Sir. Thank you, for this great V: TtBothS, SSRNS Seaview Diorama build! I was wondering if you could answer a important model building question for me. It's about the Lunar Models Co. Would you know if Lunar Models is still a going concern? I recall that the company supplied resin pieces for model kits from Battlestar Galactica's 'classic' Colonial Viper model kit. Notably, a fully detailed 'cockpit' with clear canopy, and under carriage/landing gear. So that one could build their own 'hero' model Colonial Viper! Would you know if Lunar Models is still around, or if there is some other company has taken over their inventory and I might be able to 'buy' the resin parts I'm looking for, from that particular vendor? Lunar models, to my knowledge is no longer in business. One of the founders went on to form Larson designs and somehow I think the Lunar model group went on to have an influence with Polar lights - Mobius. There is a lot of photo etch out there to compliment the models you mentioned.

Still have mine from back in the 70s. The rear fins are now lost to time sadly . Not sure who made the kit back then.

There were a couple of large models before the mobius, Lunar models was the biggest at the time, the other was monsters in motion resin kit which was smaller - kinda in between the Lunar models and the old Aurora kit. The Mobius is my favorite. Thanks for watching.

No, no model work in the Kitchen, the finished kits were just placed on the kitchen island to take the video after the Lunar models completion. It was either that or get down on the floor and take the video. The submarines and their bases are so big and take up a lot of space, combined they wouldn't have fit on my work bench. My Mobius Sub resides on the top of a 125 gal. fish tank, the Lunar models Sub that I built for my friend has his Sub sitting on credenza in his living room. They display nicely....Thanks for watching.

Good job. Interesting about the finish. If mineral spirits was used then what's it painted with ?

I called the colors out in part 2 of the build log. main color was Kylon classic gray, underside was a rustoleum stone gray and the limber hole area was a granite gray. The sub was clear coated in Kylon satin...I believe.

@@lewilsons So you used Krylon, and Rustoleum spray can paints ? Ok so yeah if cured I think they would stand up to a mineral spirits wash. And spray paints are good especially for larger scale models.

I had mixed my own paint for the Mobius model multiple times to get the color shade the way I liked it. I wasn't about to do the same for this kit. I learned the Seaview was a Chamaeleon when it came to its true color. seemed to be multiple shades of gray depending on how they lit it. @@CIS101

@@lewilsons I understand. I have gone nuts mixing colors before, but one time it was for a very good reason - matching colors to an original Grey Iron cast soldier. I used to do a lot of model building, but not so much now. Looks like have to move to Europe just to afford rent.

I built that Enterprise several years ago, I have only been doing video logs since the other sites I was posting to folded. I have been building and posting to forums since 2013. I finally got tired of posting and losing work.

ya vi el original es el qué está a un lado bueno los 2 en si están bonitos los modelos yo tuve en varias ocasiones en diferentes años el de adorno que no tiene ninguna función el primero que saco a la venta AURORA y unos japoneses motorizado todavía no salían los que estás mostrando en el vídeo.

y si hace el pi pi pi pi pipi el sonar e notado qué tienes cierta modificación el original tiene 8 compartimiento de proyectiles y en otro video tenía 6 y otro 7 y los ventanales uno más grandes .

The lunar models version has the engine lower tail fins as the eight window version. The mobius SEAVIEW has them at the correct angles.
