The 1600 was tops on my list of boats to sail away on. Unfortunately the cost meant I would have to wait 5 years. So we bought a used FP that we love. It's a very good boat for living space, but the sailing performance is not fantastic. Great tour of your boat. Looking forward to seeing it perform.

Thanks John! It’s better to have something you can sail now. Who knows what will happen over the next 5 years. We recently sailed down to Biscayne Bay from Ft. Lauderdale in steady 20 knot winds with gusts up to 27. We sailed very conservatively but she performed great!

@1:23 Wait until you hit a storm😁 Looks like a charter Cat. You'll have to get a full cover for that cockpit if you ever want to sail it across any oceans. I didn't see much around the self sustaining part. Will you pay for someone else to maintain the boat or get down and do the work?
@HarborsUnknown2 жыл бұрын
😂😂 we have hit many storms and survived so far! We do have a full cockpit clear enclosure but we don’t use especially when filming. We do all the work we can do ourselves and we have some videos about it. Most of our viewers prefer to see sailing and exploring rather than fixing stuff. As far as self sustainability you are correct, we don’t seem to be able to catch fish or forage much 😂😂 and we have relied mostly on our refrigerator and freezer. I guess self sustainability also refers to making water and solar energy. We appreciate your stimulating comments and we are happy that you are watching our video.

Just a lovely boat! So, you just swapped the house for a boat? You have a dock and access. And a place to keep your cars. But it isn't a marina? That sounds really interesting. @HarborsUnknown4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching Franny! Yes, we swapped the house for a boat and we’re staying at a dock right now with parking for the cars. Eventually we’ll sell the cars and sail off but Fabio is still working. It was difficult to downsize but we adjusted. The hardest part is not being able to find what you put in storage! 🤪 We’re glad you’re enjoying the channel!

Hi - enjoyed the tour - we were on the 1600 at the Miami boat show last Feb. It’s good to get a real owner’s perspective. We will pull the trigger in about 2 years and this is one of the 3 boats we have finalized on ( Balance 526 / HH50). Curious as to what boats you looked at and like before you made your final choice. Look forward to seeing more videos. Thanks.
@HarborsUnknown4 жыл бұрын
Hi Monte! We’re glad you enjoyed the video. The main contenders we looked at were the Catana 53, Outremer 45&52 and Balance 526. The helm stations on the Catana and Outremer aren’t covered. The position on the Catana is really exposed. The Outremer living space was a bit small. The Balance 526 is a bit more than we wanted to spend. All things considered the Seawind was the best choice for us.
@secondwindadventures16464 жыл бұрын
There are so few videos (none) that go over the performance sailing aspects of the 1600. If you are looking for more video topics, I would be very interested and appreciative of any videos covering performance against Seawind’s published polars and how she handles durings tacks, in gusty winds, varying sea states, etc. Enjoy your new boat - hope to be out there one day soon with my own!

Thank you for the walk through, Kristin and Fabio. Agree that a soup vide and instapot makes a great combination. Look forward to seeing how this boat performs. Btw, any idea of current displacement and how sensitive this boat is to weight?
@HarborsUnknown4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jack! We’re glad you enjoyed the walk through. Th light weight displacement of the boat is 28,600 lbs (13 tonnes). If you add 200 gallons of diesel, 150 gallons of water, waste, food, equipment and 2 crew, we probably add 4500 pounds. We are not sure yet of the weight sensitivity of the boat, but we are planning to do a detailed inventory of the payload and test it.

Thanks for the great tour! I had a few questions: 1) How big a TV were you able to accommodate? Is it satellite based? 2) What do you do with your cars? 3) I was suprised the mast doesn't step to a keel. Is the mast lightweight? 4) How is the boat supposed to handle in bad weather? I know yoiu just got it, but I'm sure it must have some rating. I'm so happy that you guys are living your best life now and look forward to your adventures!
@HarborsUnknown4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike! We’re glad you enjoyed the video!! 1. The TV is 41”. 2. So far we’ve kept the boat at places where parking isn’t a problem so we both still have our cars. 3. Catamaran’s have deck stepped masts. This boat doesn’t have a keel, it has daggerboards. The mast is aluminum. I’m not sure about the weight but can find out. 4. This is a true blue water sailing vessel designed to withstand storms but more importantly due to the speed which is twice that of a typical monohull and the ability to point upwind just like a monohull, with good weather routing you can escape most storms. Thanks so much for your interest! I hope all is well!!

@HarborsUnknown4 жыл бұрын
Hi Anthony, that is an interesting comment. You are not the first one to make that observation. We are planning to discuss with the team at Seawind the reasons for the hatch orientation. Thank you for watching
@adammallerman81534 жыл бұрын
I don't understand why catamaran builders place the engine hatches opening in the direction they do. Aside from having to go out onto the sugar-scoop to get down, if you had to make repairs on passage you could be in danger of a wave coming in from a following sea. Surely it would be better to put the hinges on the stern end of the hatch?
