I only just found your channel a few weeks back and have watched a few of the Videos so far. This morning, a warm Sunday morning in southern France I decided to binge on a few of your older videos. This is such a nice and very useful video and very helpful to anything looking at buying a cat. It's also so nice to see that you are enjoying your time on the water. Before the sun comes up too high over the trees I will watch a few more of your videos. Don't know how I missed your channel in the past but I'm going to make up for the lost time. Good luck to you both, Paul

Hi, I cant resist to tell you my story. I wrote a couple of times before from New Zealand. That Seawind you were coming to see was the one I fell in love with in NZ. It was an original Corsair hull number one. Frank and Lisa owned it and had sailed it for 10 years and it was IMMACULATE. For me now nothing can compare to these 1600's. The one big thing you missed to mention is the draft. A fifty two foot Cat with a 2 foot one inch draft!! Nothing compares. And it is possible to dry it out on a sandy beach if you dare. .. a couple of rocks and you are done tho... But that draft means you can sail this boat into pretty much any place there is water. I was soo grateful to find your videos on the one Catamaran I love so much, so I drink it all in. Im hoping to buy the Mango Moon later, if it comes up for sale again in Auckland, or any other 1600 at the right time.. Love your Vids guys!
@HarborsUnknown3 жыл бұрын
Wow!! I cannot believe you are familiar with Mango Moon. I would have loved to buy that vessel and I congratulate the lucky owners for a great choice. We love our Wanderlust and agree that the shallow draft is a great quality they we forgot to mention. Thanks for watching our videos and for following our channel.

G'day again, Fabio & Kristin. That video was very illuminating, explaining further your comments in your reply before last about your sailing experience, so thank you very much for sharing, and I wish you both a happy anniversary. Yes, the SeaWind 1600 seems to have all those compromises between luxury and performance all at a reasonable price compared to its natural competitors. Whilst I have only before seen the SeaWind 'boat tour' videos for the 1600 and 1260, and more recently the 11 or 13-something--I forget--my gut feeling was that this Aussie boat-builder has some potential for growth if only there was some certainty as to global economic stability, especially in the US, so I will be watching closely how your cruising logistics works out once you shove off from familiar shores and start traversing the oceans, in particular how you keep your veges fresh! *chuckles* Whilst I tend to be an outdoorsman in nature, years ago when I was single and running a cattle property, I took an interest in cooking--mainly asian and yes, odd, but that's a whole other story--of a style which fresh vegetables generally form a major part, so I have taken an interest in observing how other bluewater cruisers manage their vege stocks, and so I will be watching closely for the tricks to emerge! Anyway, I will leave it there. Until your next video, "alla prossima", or as we say in Oz, "Cheers". Jack PS Don't forget those tin snips, champ. I jest not. *grins*

Thank you! Yes, keeping veggies fresh will be interesting. We are experimenting with dehydration and will keep you posted. Canning is another option for storing veggies. Kristin enjoys making Thai dishes, particularly the coconut chicken soup. Thanks for watching! A presto. Cheers!

Happy New year, Kristin and Fabio. Thank you very much for sharing your backstory and how it guided your decision to go with the 1600. We also went through a similar decision making process and was choosing between two new 45’ model from Balance and Seawind. Do a video on the details of the daggerboards and rudders. I thought they both could be raised?
@HarborsUnknown3 жыл бұрын
Yes, they can both be raised, the dagger boards have a super easy pulley system that is controlled from the cockpit, the rudders must be raised manually but they float, so once you remove the holding pin they come up, you can see the details in our boat tour video. Grazie Federico, we did look at the Neel 51, it is a fantastic boat especially for us who are coming from a trimaran. The master cabin is spectacular and offers a unmatched view and has a very large head, but the rest of the accommodations are a bit tight. We also like the privacy allowed by the 2 Large cabins in separate hulls for those times when you have guests. Thanks for watching our videos and for following our channel

I think that the SeaWind 1600 was a great choice. When I first started looking for a blue water cruiser I considered catamarans for a while and was impressed by the SA boat the Xquisite X5, mainly for its 'comfort', but having been a 16 foot Hobie Cat sailor for 30 years I looked at its performance characteristics as a blue water sail boat, as opposed to a racer, and determined that the X5 and many other brands were at best coastal boats and marina hoppers dressed up like a pig with lipstick, and then discovered the SeaWind brand and performance tradeoffs, discounting the drunken sailor's tale that blue water cruisers don't need to 'beat' weather systems, given that modern day comms provides 12 hourly weather updates from the likes of PredictWind, which means that prudent sailors who don't travel in straight line courses are able to skip to the fringes close to the wind when need be if they are on boats that won't get blown too far sideways. However, after a brief dalliance with the concept of a cat, I have reverted to finding a suitable mono in the 55'+ size-range. Unfortunately, finding one in my price range that is a true bluewater world cruiser--a simple feature like cold storage capacity when around 80% of time will be spent in the tropics between the latitudes 30 degrees north and south--and not just a 'pretty marina-hopper' designed for the Med/Carib holiday charter market is easier said than done, especially given covid restrictions and constraints in getting back home.

Congratulations on your anniversary. Cent'anni. This is a terrific video. Your list sounds like my list . Really helpful. What I'm always interested to know, is there a boat that you would've chosen except for price, availability, So not the 'deal breaker flaws' but the great boat that just didn't or wouldn't work out. Also would you have gone longer, like the Outremere 55? Thank you.
@HarborsUnknown3 жыл бұрын
Grazie! If budget were not part of the equation we’d honestly have to look again. It’s such a rarity that you can see from the cockpit. I just looked at the Outremer 55, HH 50 and Balance 526 and it looks like if you’re not at the helm you have to look through the interior windows to see ahead. Though, it’s hard to tell without more research. We probably wouldn’t go larger than this for short handed sailing. Thanks for watching!

We enjoy your channel and boat. I sometimes annoyed by your attempt to use a second camera from the side in interview formats like much of this episode. It adds nothing and creates jumpiness. The Wynns and other veteran KZbinrs don't do this. You are also struggling to keep the audio volume relatively constant and sometimes need to use a windsock. I am intrigued with how your mainsail is double sheeted and want to see and hear more about that. I heard you say that the second sheets acts somewhat as a preventer and then you rigged a separate preventer on one of your shows. Why? I am also intrigued with the dagger boards and raisable rudders and would like to see and hear more on them. Most cruising catamarans use mini-kneels, so many of use are a lot less familiar with this design choice. Where do the rudders and daggerboards retract into when raised? Can they be lowered and raised on any point of sail or do you need to unload them first? Are they engineered to sheer off in event of a collision to protect their trunks? Do you carry spares onboard? Inquiring minds want to know. Keep up the good work and enjoy life.
@HarborsUnknown3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback and questions! The preventer is used when sailing on a broad reach. The boom is pretty far out so the preventer keeps the boom from accidental jibe. You can see how we used it in this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHmQZotjmr2pars The following link is to a video that shows the daggerboards and rudders more in depth: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmi8g3Z5ZZWdqrs. The daggerboards are in a locker under the deck even when retracted. The rudders are just up out of the water when they are raised. You do need to point into the wind to decrease the load on the daggerboards in order to raise or lower them. To raise or lower the rudders it's best to slow the boat down so again pointing into the wind or if on engine decreasing rpm's. Neither are designed to sheer off in event of collision and no we don't carry spares onboard. Thanks for watching!

I started watching your videos from the start, the moment I got to this one I realized that your channel is targeting a very niche demographic... The wealthy. As someone who is hoping one day to get a boat and sail around the world, I cannot relate having a surgeon's salary. When they say "WE" got this and that, they really mean Fabio. On a bartender salary you would hardly be able to afford hiring out a Sailwind 1600 for a few days. He is a surgeon, he got a hot young wife and they are making videos about owning a million $ Cat. Can't relate to that or even hope for it. Would be cool to see you sail across one of the Oceans, that Storm you hit wasn't really a storm either😝 Guess I'm gonna head back to Zatara, Vagabond, Wynns etc.
