Do we think Boris will make it to place 8th in the next 32 hours? :)

Hi Florian, could you eventually comment a bit on sailing boat simulation software that might be used by the Vendée Globe IMOCA boat designers / teams? Would be interested which simulations are state of the art and how they use it and to which degree the simulations for hydrodynamics and aerodynamics can model the real world forces the boats are facing during the race. I am fascinated about the designs and the applied technologies. Of course the sailers performance is even more impressive. ;-) An explanation about how the autopilots work and latest improvements for the autopilots would also be quite interesting. Thanks a lot for the great daily videos - was very happy to see you online again at the start of this Vendée Globe.

Hi Florian, I wish you would mention Violette Dorange a bit more. You mention everyone around her but skip her. She is the youngest sailor in the Vendee, and of course female. As a woman, I do tend to keep track of the female sailors! Thanks for the show-I have not missed a day!

The birds are probably Shearwaters, from the petrel family.
@TaygetaBlueСағат бұрын
I was thinking Shearwater, or Storm-petrel, or such..... I was just looking at Avibase (World Bird Database) to see what species are in that region. Looks like there are several possibilities? As a birder (in the States), I'm always wondering what species we are seeing flying around the IMOCAs! :)

We have heard that Pip Hare is heading to Melbourne , the capital of the State of Victoria. (Just a note, Tasmania is a State of Australia and they tend to get a bit cranky if they get considered a separate entity. ) I understand the sailing community in Melbourne has reached out to offer support for Pip, I know one of my friends here is very keen to check out her boat.

I live in Melbourne and have been following Pip since the last VG. I am devastated for Pip, she was starting to make her way up to the front couple of packs. I am so keen to check out her boat. It will probably be one of my only chances to check out an IMOCA.

Melbourne makes sense as there are much better shipping options from Melbourne to Europe compared to Tasmania

@@davidtydeman1434True but us Tasmanians would have loved to have her come here.

Boris has gone for a new set up for lighter winds and will therefore speed up. So I assume he will catch no 8 Paul Meilhart within 24 h which makes the race again more interesting

Pip's going to Melbourne. Has the facilities needed and will be relatively simple to load and ship Medallia back to UK from there. Crew and Pip can easily fly in and out as well.

how do they balance the center of gravity of the foiling boats? The seawolf mentioned sea water. but I am not sure. by the way, thanks for sharing. love the channel.

Can they use electric furling systems similar to Amel's. Given the opportunity for hydro-regen it could still be a whole wind driven race.

Anyone know what’s happening to Pip? She now seems to be heading SE instead on the rhumb line to Melbourne … maybe rerigging? She did mention she was going to try and rig a trysail.
@mlj99314 сағат бұрын
She mentioned a northerly that might push her back before the wind turns to a more favourable easterly.
@pkrockit4 сағат бұрын
@@mlj9931 Yup, does appear to be from the north, but she seems to be on a broad reach, losing ground to the SE. Unfortunate.

She did a rigging of fortune and is heading to Melbourne. She is doing great.

It looks like a couple days of fresh to strong northerlies for pip, with a high and sw filling in behind, that'll blow her right on course for Melbourne. Next couple days will be to try to maintain station without giving up too much south. Saw a post today where her tri sail is under construction, that'll help heaps with sailing ability. She was smiling

It would have been really awesome if Clarissa Cremer or one of the other sailors would also have brought a flat earth 'disk' and charted their position on that. They could have discussed the incredible acceleration they would have observed as they approached the outer rings of the disk in the 'southern' ocean as they travelled to the edge of the circular landmass of Antarctica to make their circumnavigation... ( ;) )
@pedroforonda2 сағат бұрын
"flat earth 'disk". Good Idea considering that earth is flat. and the exclusion zone is where the boats fall over, it they get to close to it. Da!!!
