Enjoyed your reaction! Especially in the beginning when you were smiling. Sabaton's music is about serious, heavy topics, but as you mentioned, it's somehow also fun. Joakim said that concerts are supposed to be fun. Your comment about Hamilton was funny:) Thank you for your great reaction:)

One other interesting fact about this video. In the beginning when they go into the office and ask the man "Did you find the boat?" the camera also scans the wall showing medals and other memorabilia, and then at the end of the video the sailor got the compass from the Captain they show a close up of the open watch in the man's hand (the older man not the actor) ... that man is either the son or grandson of the actual sailor. The watch in his hand is the actual compass (some say it is a pocket watch) that the sailor - his ancestor - carried off the Bismark.

As no one has mentioned it this video was actually a collaboration between Sabaton and Wargaming who are the makers of the World of Warships game. They asked Sabaton for a song to go with their game and this song and video are the result of that. They also have multiple other song collaborations with Wargaming in making songs and videos for their game World of Tanks namely the song "Steel Commanders" and the song "Primo Victoria".

Great reaction! First off, believe me,you are not the first (and probably not the last) to feel like you wanna "man up" and lift heavy when Joakim opens his mouth. He kinda has that effect on people😄 Another effect they have is that they can make you feel patriotic for pretty much any country in the world, depending on what they sing about. I would recommend listening to Carolus Rex ( about the swedish king Carl XII) Christmas Truce (ww1 event ) Soldier of Heaven (also ww1) To hell and back ( about Audie Murphy) and Lady of the Dark ( about Milunka Savic in ww1) Cheers! And I hope you continue down this rabbithole!

They have a Sabaton History channel where all their songs are explained. If you want to dig deeper my suggestions: "Ghost Division" live Woodstock Poland 2012, "The Unlikable Soldier" official music video and "Christmas Truce" official music video. That's for a start. It had several flaws, first, it's anti air guns couldn't aim low enough to hit the stringbagsgs and a hit to her only rudder crippled her. Second, late in the construction it was decided to use electric motors to steer her turrets but too late to run the electrical cables internally so they were external and got taken out early in the surface battle. Third, the hull is almost intact. The stern is missing and has never been found.

Lead singer Joakim Broden doesn't have a huge vocal range, but he uses every bit of what he does have. He wasn't even supposed to be the singer. He was supposed to be the keyboard player. They started writing songs and he sung to get the melodies while they looked for a singer. They never got around to finding one, so he got stuck with it. I've seen Joakim joke about this in interviews.🤣 He and bassist Par Sundstrom are the primary songwriters, and the only original members left. Guitarists Tommy Johansson and Chris Rorland, and drummer Hannes Van Dahl round out the current lineup. The name they painted on the boat they went out in in this video is 'Primo Victoria'. that's the name of the 1st Sabaton album, and the title track is about D-Day. Christmas Truce, and the animated story videos for Night Witches and No Bullets Fly are also highly recommended.

As you are now into SABATON, it is unavoidable that you shall encounter their epic song "The Christmas Truce" (save it for Christmas maybe?). There, the band members show themselves as no mean actors in addition to musicians - immerse yourself in it! (Plus, be sure to watch/ listen to the credits to the very end - that is all part of the song, and some important collaboration is revealed in the end titles...). As for personal favorites from SABATON's long catalogue, I can heartily recommend "Cliffs of Gallipoli", "Soldier of 3 Armies", "Resist and Bite" (you may relate...), or - delving deeper into history - "En Livstid i Krig" ( "A Lifetime of War"), Live. Hi! Coincidentally stumbled over your channel just now, because of a Sabaton reaction. I'm going to be honest, because of this, I might give you some info that fellow Sabaton fans may have already told you, but, maybe something isn't told yet... Either way, first thing to do is to welcome you down the rabbit hole! Sabaton is a Swedish band that write songs based on true historical war events. Some in both English and Swedish. In these cases I would recommend you to check out both, many times they can differ... Also make sure to listen to very song to the very end! Otherwise it's quite likely you'll miss out on something! With that said, I would also like to recommend you to check out their other channel, Sabaton history, where you will learn about the history behind the songs. Many times this means that questions that may arise during the song, will be answered in the history video. Maybe do both in a reaction? Would be cool. Then you can get the entire package, and you will learn a lot. Some of the songs I usually recommend people to (start) with are (excluded those I've seen you've already done): Christmas truce, 82nd all the way, Uprising, Great War, Defense of Moscow, Steel commanders, Last stand, and Carolus Rex . To mention a few. No need to worry. Recommdations for songs to react to will most likely continue coming... Welcome to the Sabaton family!

Hello! Here is some Sabaton 101 (and reaction suggestions at the end): They started 1999 in Falun, Sweden, as a group of 17-19 year olds. They've been doing almost solely military history topics since the 2005 album "Primo Victoria". Their songs are about REAL historical war events, battles, people etc. and are highly historically accurate. Their first recorded album (recorded in 2002 but not released until 2007) "Metalizer" is not about history. They released their 10th studio album in march of 2022. "The War To End All Wars" which is their 2nd album in a row about ww1. (and 9th about war/military history) The singer Joakim and the bass player Pär are the "history nerds" in the band, who do the research and lyrics. They, as the only 2 original members left, basically co-run Sabaton, Joakim is in charge of "the music" and Pär is in charge of "the financial side". Of course the other band members pitch in as they can and they have crew etc. to delegate things to. They also have a Sabaton History Channel on youtube, where they tell the real story behind every song in 15-20 min videos with an actual historian. They haven't gotten to all songs on the newest album yet, but they are otherwise caught up. CURRENT BAND MEMBERS (2022): *Joakim Brodén,* 1999- (lead vocals, keyboards, some guitars, the main song writer, 50% lyrics, "music director" of the band) *Pär Sundström,* 1999- (bass, 50% lyrics, backing vocals, band manager, the "practical" side of running Sabaton) *Chris Rörland,* 2012- (guitar, graphic design, some song writing with Joakim, backing vocals) *Hannes Van Dahl,* 2013- (drums, some song writing with Joakim, backing vocals) Married to Floor Jansen (the singer of Nightwish). *Tommy Johansson,* 2016- (guitar, some song writing with Joakim, backing vocals) Joakim (the lead singer) actually started as a organ/piano player. He also learned guitar and bass along the way. And he does the orchestrations and choir arrangements for songs. Joakim joined Sabaton in early 1999 (age 18) to play keyboards (it was still called Aeon). At the time they had no singer or original songs, but since Joakim had already done some songwriting, they decided to record his stuff. He unfortunately had never sung before nor wanted to be a singer, but since the songs were his and he HAD written lyrics, they wanted Joakim to demonstrate. He has always been the main songwriter, till 2014 album the only one (he sometimes works with others). "You'll sing until we find a singer" is something Joakim often uses to describe how he became a singer and "lazy bastards" is Joakim's answer as to how he stayed, very reluctantly in the beginning, as the lead singer and the frontman. He's never had "proper vocal training" instead he found his own voice and style. He has been singing for over 20 years now and has said it took him the first ten years to get used to the idea of it (though he was already a great lead singer many years before he himself understood it). The guys are all really nice and their live shows are epic, energetic, fun and (mostly) family friendly. They make a point to do as much of their headline shows, as all-ages allowed, as they can, since they have fans as young as 5 showing up with their parents. Joakim has often, when he spots a "little one" in the front, invited them on stage for the last song and gives his sunglasses etc. as a souvenier to them. It's always very cute. I have to recommend their live shows, they are EPIC! Anything from Woodstock Poland 2012 is epic (it was over 600 000 people). BUT if there is a cinematic OR a STORY video do those. Christmas Truce - The official music video (cinematic/ massive production) En Livstid I Krig - Live great Tour Gothenburg (onstage, put on the CC, it's in Swedish) Great War - Official music video (behind the scenes footage/ show footage) Soldier of Heaven - official music video Ghost Division - Woodstock 2012 Poland (live) 40:1- Woodstock 2012 Poland (live) Price of a Mile - Woodstock 2012 Poland (live) Sparta - Masters of Rock 2017 (with an orchestra) Shiroyama - Helfest 2017 (some fun antics and a great song) Primo Victoria - (any live after 2012, DO NOT do the music video, it was made as a Wargaming&Sabaton collab promo and the effects are a bit too distracting and the story has nothing to do with the song. It's actually a good video, but not good for a first experience of the song.)

The tragedy of the Bismark is that it was sunk due to arrogance on the side of the Germans. The ship had a design flaw in the rudder than if it was hit with a torpedo could cause the rudder to jam. It was believed that the chance of that happening was almost impossible, so it was never fixed. The Radar systems were never tested after firing the main batteries. When they encountered the Hood the shockwave from the main guns disabled his radar. The High Command also sent it out with only the Heavy Cruiser Prinz Eugen as escort with no screening vessels. So much arrogance, such a tragic loss of life on both sides.

You like the Ride of the Rohirram you say? *whispers* Would you like a song about the historical event that both the charge at Helm's Deep and Pelennor Fields is based on? From Sabaton? Well, LOOK NO FURTHER! THE WINGED HUSSARS ARRIVED! That's the song you want- "Winged Hussars." It details the historical charge of the elite Polish cavalry at the Siege of Vienna in 1683 led by King Jan II of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The total of the cavalry charge fielded by the Polish and the Holy Roman Empire forces was about 18,000 strong, making it the largest cavalry charge in history. Leading the way was around 3,000-4,000 of the elite Polish cavalry, these Winged Hussars. Do know that it came out in 2016 on Sabaton's album "The Last Stand" and it is the MOST meme'd song in their entire discography. So it is a rather infamous song among the fans because everyone is in on the meme to the absolute delight of the Polish fans of the band. There is no official music video, but there is a rather good fan made one with footage from a historical drama floating out there. There is also a lyric video. And there are several LOTR crossover videos with the song about the Ride of the Rohirram. Have fun!

I actually discovered them through a cover of Their song "82nd All the Way" by another swedish callad Amaranth, you should do a double reaction both versions are in my opinion great, i love Joakim doing the verses, but the wall of sound Amaranthe produces for the chorus is amazeing. Also a lot of the bands you mention like Stratovarius is usually refered to as Powermetal, and in music style so is Sabaton, but since the fantasy themes are en integrated part of Powermetal, you could say that is in a sub-genre to powermetal. A powermetalband you should try reacting to is Powerwolf either "Demons are a Girls Best Friend" (from the Monumental Mass) or "Sanctified With Dynamite" (live from Wacken) or "Beast of Gevudan" (musicvideo).

Nice that your appriciate a great band, you missed the trailer of the cronometer the Ship captain was the son of the last survivor that you could see rescued in the end. Sean the band a few times live and always been great. Songs that i think would fit you are: New: Soldier of heaven, Christmas truce, Unkillable soldier (real event but parodi on gaming in the video) Older: No bullets fly (animated, and check to the end), 82:nd all the way, Really older must be live: Swedish pagans Wacken 2019, En livstid i krig the great tour Gothemburg use subtile as they sing in swedish

Stratovarius isn't exactly progressive but Symphony X is. I spent lot of time to learn Symphony X with guitar back then too. Stratovarius is kinda easy compared...Anyways great you found Sabaton. 😉
