One of the voice coaches that watch him sing..says he couldn't be auto tuned even if they had auto tning back in those days... he showed how with auto tuning couldn't be used on his voice because his range was too high and to strong when he was singing a song.. then how he changed from Verato to tenor..to bearatone.. and everything that the auto tuning would reach with his voice... So he TRULY WAS ONE OF A KIND... AND ALWAYS WILL BE..I SAW ELVIS IN CONCERT WHEN I WAS 16...I CAN'T REMEMBER ONE SONG HE SANG... BUT, I CAN STILL SEE HIM IN THAT WHITE JUMPSUIT... Elvis is many things . When he started in the 50s it was Rock full off energy . I58 to 60 he got drafted into the Army . 60s movie contracts 68 Co.back outstanding 70s vegas and touring . There are so many parts of elvis it's hard to describe but I hope you enjoy the journey

This was in Hawaii and the whole world got to watch via satellite. I was only 9 or 10 years old. No one can re-create his voice. What you hear is pure voice. I was born in 1964, my mom got to watch him rise as a star. Then she played his albums when I was a baby, she said that is the only thing that I could fall asleep to. Now I make sure all my grandkids know who he is and his story.

There has never been any other singer who could make the world stop to listen to them. Only Elvis. (And just remember, there were many people all over the world without a TV set!!) They didn't call Elvis the King for that reason; he was already known as the King. But the worldwide audience he drew was simply another measure of his talent.

Also, you have to consider that Elvis didn't tour outside the U.S. Col Parker was a person of interest in a murder in the Netherlands, which is why he fled, which is also why he would never go back to Europe or travel, or allow Elvis to either. If you wanted to see Elvis Live, you had to see him in the U.S. A lot of people around the world couldn't do that, so this concert was their way to see him, their only chance to see him in concert. And this was the first time using a new technology, a Live satellite feed, it was exciting on so many levels...and then there's Elvis's powerful voice, and his incredible ability to perform, and his commanding stage presence. You add all that up, it's no wonder it was such a historic event, and is such a classic & beloved concert 50 yrs later. Elvis: Aloha From Hawaii '73, is a classic.

I remember watching this concert on tv. Elvis is my all time favorite singer. I was 7 years old and remember sitting on the floor hugging a couch pillow and crying when he died. I was so heartbroken. I still love him to this day. There's no equal.

I went to this Aloha concert 1973 n sat 3rd row center n couldn't take my eyes off of him. I was a crazy 21 year old girl and even jumped up on my seat n thru him a kiss n he winked at me, I was on cloud nine lol.I listened to Elvis since 1956)This was broadcasted around the world and seen by 1.5 Billion people. His pianist Glenn Hardin rearranged this song. ( fun fact when growing up his music teacher said he didn't have what it takes to be a great singer Was given a C in that class) Elvis sang RNR, Gospel ( which he got 3 Grammy awards for n his favorite music) Country, Blues n other music. You noticed the diamond ringwell all his jewelry was real gems. He also had 3 large gold rings on right hand, the diamond could buy a house. That suit was called American Eagle n weighed 70 pounds ( yes that's true) His cape he wore sometimes weighed 20 pounds.He was the most generous man on earth giving away most of his money to family, friends and people in need. He gave away money, Jewelry ,Motorcycles,Houses,Trips, Paid medical bills when people didn't have insurance, Gave to Many charities, I could write you a book,. I never met Elvis but was friends with Charlie Hodge his confidant and best friend for years after Elvis died n he told me many great stories about Elvis. Charlie lived at Graceland with Elvis for 17 years and he got to know Elvis as a human being not the famous star.i better stop before you get bored. You can tell I loved Elvis and Charlie, I love your reactions esp when you read the lyrics, getting a true understanding of what the songs are telling us. No one like Elvis before or since. Elvis had his addictions and so forth, but he was one of the most generous men in the world to poor people he didn't even know. New homes, and countless Cadilacs to total strangers he met who were good folk, but in terrible situations. Elvis was a Christian man, but he was human, and he had struggles like we all do. He attended church as a boy in a Black neighborhood. he was so good to everyone regardless of race.

It was a Trilogy because it reconciled a very painful period of history between North and South and their anthems and then he dropped in another melody. In the 70's the Civil War was still a major part of Southern history and culture, and the damage done by the war could still be felt 100 years later

When Elvis was around, alot of us took it for granted that he'd be around alot longer. We were so wrong & we were SO SHOCKED that afternoon, when a SPECIAL BULLETIN interrupted my music on my way to the evening shift at work! I was just pulling into driveway of the shopping strip-mall where I worked. I pulled into the 1st empty stall & I heard the news! It shocked me the news hit so hard. Elvis was my older siblings generation of music but he still impacted my life bc he impacted the group I followed (The Beatles)! After sitting there, listening to the announcer's sad voice 😔 , I went into my work, told the manager news of a generation & he couldn't believe it! After I assured him the news was real, he made a public announcement over the public address system! You could hear customers and all kinds of sounds, from screams, to yells of disbelief to crying! It was truly a sad day! Ppl to this day will tell u where u were when both Kennedys were assassinated, MLK's assassination...and also Elvis Presley's passing! His music and charismatic shows will live on forever, bc young ppl like u help to keep it alive! 👍

I used to use the first two songs to teach kids about the Civil War. “Dixieland” is all about home. The South was fighting for states rights and not having a strong national government in control. They had heard stories from their grandfathers about fighting for freedom from government. The North chose “Glory Glory Hallelujah” because they were fighting for what they believed God would want them to do to end the terrible cruelty of slavery in the US as other countries were also doing.

As you watch his performance, you'll notice how he listens for musical 'cues' for when to sing or pause. That time period pre-dates the advent of stage monitors, ear pieces, auto-tune, and other technical advances that augment performances in the 21st century. A performer in the 1970s had to listen and know the musical arrangement by heart to be able to sing 'live'.

This concert in 1973 “ Aloha from Hawaii” was beamed live via satellite to all over the world. This special was seen by over 1.5 BILLION people. Who else could pull that off he instructed his costume designer to make him an American costume. This costume has a Eagle in stones on the back. The costume was heavy. Elvis always emptied the tank when he performed. I saw him live & he was the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen & his stage presence was great. He also on occasion give fans on the audience a diamond ring off his finger. He gave so much of his fortune away.

That song still gives me chills, Gotta love the Battle Hymn Of The Republic. My wife absolutely loves Elvis. I still remember my aunt crying the day that Elvis died, it was a big deal. This was later Elvis after he rediscovered his Christian faith and the only album that ever won him a Grammy. Pure awesomeness!

Even when he did get fat he really wasn't that fat especially in today's standards, I think it was him being puffy and sick looking but even then he had an amazing voice from the 56 to 77 I would never have given up on him as a fan because of his physical changes being an 80s baby I never got to see him live but I love utube for this I get to see him live because of these videos. If you guys really want to dig deep watch the documentary on how the Aloha Special was made it makes this song even more powerful seeing the back story.

Elvis directed and controlled everything and everyone on stage with his voice, facial expreessions, arm and hand movements. You can see an example of this at 5:14 as he is imploring and directing his band and singers to "bring it" so to speak. Nobody directed Elvis. Everybody followed him. Sometimes he was subtle, looking back at his drummer, low screams and sounds as well as his hand and arm motions. Everybody on stage knew what Elvis meant and wanted and followed him to perfection.

Thank you for your reaction to Elvis (Jan. 8, 1935-Aug. 16, 1977). Elvis was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, in a 2 room shack of a house his dad built with money he borrowed from his boss. That's how dirt poor they were. He was one half of identical twins; the other boy - Jesse Garon - was stillborn. They were so poor, that Jesse Garon was buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave. At Graceland they have a plaque with his name on it in his memory. Elvis always got along with the black community and learned a lot about music from his friends of color. Also, according to the one drop rule, Elvis would not be considered white, since he has Cherokee ancestors on both the Smith (his mother) and the Presley (his father) sides of the family. His paternal grandfather, Jesse Dunning Presley, was not happy that his two sons, Elvis' father Vernon and his brother Vester, married two sisters, Gladys and Clettes who were known to have Cherokee blood in their family tree. J.D. Presley was quite the racist a-hole, often drunk and a philandering husband to Minnie Mae (they were actually separated long before they finally divorced in 1954) who was always competing with his sons Vester and Vernon and who was known to abuse his kids when drunk. J.D. was was publicly against race mixing and was in denial about the Cherokee blood in his own family tree. It was more publicly known that the Smith family had Native blood in their family tree, so when both his sons fell for 2 Smith sisters and Vernon, on top of that, was still a minor at 17 when he eloped with Gladys who was 4 years older than him, Jesse was totally pissed off. As a child, Elvis already had many friends in the black community at the time his family was one of 4 "white" families that lived in the predominantly black neighborhood The Hill, just across from Shake Rag. His childhood friend Sam Bell said that some of the (black) kids in that neighborhood had lighter skin than Elvis (kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqOpdKyEgtuNjc0). One of Elvis' bodyguards once said that he thought it was a miracle Elvis got into Humes High School in Memphis, because it was "lily white". Elvis wanted to be more open about his Native ancestry, but his manager "colonel" Tom Parker (real name Andreas van Kuijk) was against it because he was afraid it might cost Elvis fans (and himself money). They did have Elvis play characters in his movies though where he had Native American blood (Flaming Star, G.I. Blues, Stay Away Joe). Once Elvis had his own (apprentice) job learning to be an electrician, he saved up his money and bought his clothes in the same style that many of his friends of color wore. He was called a (forgive me, just stating facts here) "n-lover" and got beaten up several times too. Later, when he was an established star, he would not perform at places where the members of color of his back-up band/orchestra weren't allowed.

This is my favorite Elvis song. It pulls tears every time I hear it. This video is a clip from his Aloha from Hawaii televised concert which I watched with my wife as it was aired. I don't know if its because I'm a veteran or because I was a part of the 60s or that I know the meaning of each of these songs in this mash of American historical songs, but I always have tears including today as I watch, though I have heard this more than 100 times. It is a mash up of "I Wish I was In Dixie", "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and the negro spiritual "All My Trials". Maybe because this to me is an attempt at unifying the South, the North and Black Americans it effects me so deeply.

Exactly, what an odd question “who’s our Elvis” as if something like this happens every generation. When folks say things like that, it just means they haven’t yet realized the full legacy he left behind. Lots of talented singers and songwriters have shaped music and culture over the generations, but no one even comes close to Elvis.
