"But you could've heard a pin drop when Tommy stopped and locked the door." Probably heard this song a thousand times but this line still gets me. "The Gambler" is hands down my favorite Kenny Rogers song for painting a mood and state of mind and "Ruby" from his First Edition days for its gut wrenching poignancy.

You don't have to fight to be a man, but sometimes you do have to fight when you are a man. Pretty much explained healthy masculinity in a song. And you're right. You should fortify your mind and body to be there for those you love. This is the way, my man.

Love Kenny Rogers music from when he was with the First Edition (60's-70's) to his solo career. He was a great story teller in many of his songs like "Coward Of The County" & "The Gambler". He had so many hits "Lucille", "Lady", "Through the Years", "She Believes In Me" etc. He did a lot of duets such as with Kim Carnes "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer", with Sheena Easton "We've Got Tonight" & with Dolly Parton "Islands In The Stream". He also did quite a few duets with Dottie West.

My dad always told me don’t come home all battered from a fight and let me find out you started it. If someone starts a fight and they show you that they’re not gonna let you walk away if you have a chance, put them down and keep them down But always try to walk away because it doesn’t mean you’re man because you had a fight.

You've commented on the storytelling - and for sure Kenny was a master artist. But he also had one of the smoothest soulful voices ever. He was an amazing performer, singer-songwriter, and good actor too. My mom was in love with kenny -my whole life I grew up with him. I've seen him live 3 times. And his music crossed over different genres - he's wasn't just country - he was top 40 and adult contemporary. Just a true artist beloved across generations and genres. Other songs by Kenny with a great story feel that you would love: The Greatest, Lucille, Ruby, The Last Ten Years, 20 Years Ago, and my personal favorite "Love Will Turn You Around".

Sebs, I'm the youngest of five siblings (they always save the best for last 😂). My first Kenny Rogers concert was ~1984. I picked a huge bouquet of yellow daffodils from the woods around our house and gave them to Kenny on stage. It was a GREAT night and the girls and I had a great time!

This is one of my FAVORITE songs. I'm a bigger guy, but always tried to avoid physical violence, because I didn't know how I'd react, whether I'd be able to hold back when enraged. Found out my Grandfather evidently nicknamed me correctly, by calling me his "Baby Polar Bear", when I was pushed beyond my limit.

Kenny Rogers was a true legend! This is my favorite song of his own besides Three Gambler. And "yellow" means coward, in case you didn't know since this is an old song about an older time! Also, you missed a small but important part of the second verse, before he went to see the Gatlin boys. So maybe go back and give it a listen again. It changes things a bit!

I saw Kenny Rogers and the First Edition in 1973, two weeks after I graduated high school. (Yes, I’m old😂) I liked (and still do) rock from Beatles to AC/DC to Kiss to Metallica. Hated Country and Southern Rock but now I like it all. I particularly like to watch you discover Country. I heard you say on one of your videos that you probably didn’t like Country music because of peer pressure.I think that may have been the same for me. My favorite old Kenny Rogers songs were “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town,” “Lucille” and “Just Dropped In.” The last one reminds me of Cream or The Doors.

Good morning sebs Thank you for reaching to this song. This is my newest favorite. The line that hits me the most is Take that phone call from you mama. I can't do that anymore, because my mama is now in heaven. Sometimes I call her number, just to hear her voice. That probably sounds silly, but that's what I do, especially when I'm having a bad day.
