I came here to mention that song as well. In 1980 when she recorded and released Hell is for children discussions about things like child abuse were very taboo. She really cast a huge spotlight on an issue that for generations had been viewed as a “family matter” and not talked about. It was a bold and courageous move, one that could have gotten her “canceled”, but it became a big hit and really helped to open a conversation on the subject.

Pat Benatar is a powerhouse vocalist in a petite frame. She had a lot of great songs in the 80's such as "Heartbreaker", "We Live For Love", "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", "Fire & Ice", "Love Is A Battlefield", "We Belong", "Invincible", "All Fired Up", "Treat Me Right", "Shadows Of The Night" etc.

She is also a genuine role model. Not only has she been married to Neil for 42 years, but the word is she has stopped playing one of her biggest songs, "Hit me with your best shot" because she's concerned about domestic abuse implications, even though the lyrics say nothing of the kind. Now 72, Pat is still performing, and has two concerts scheduled before summer.

The song was constructed with the slow ballad intro....moving into uptempo, like many songs were in the early 80s. Mirroring the trend set in the late 70s by Donna Summer. Who incidentally took the first Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Female, before Pat took the next 4.

Then, on the personal side, she once said she likes to vacuum and be domestic. 😅 To really get to see what she can do with her voice, listen to her cover of Wuthering Heights.
