Also should check out “Alone” from the later years in the 80s, if they haven’t already. Yes it’s definitely a rock ballad but it absolutely shows Ann’s range even more, along with Nancy playing piano. It’s impressive! Barracuda is still my favorite Heart song. These days when Seattle is mentioned regarding music , everyone defaults to the early 90s grunge but nope , nada, nein, no way in hell is it as great as Heart was . I say this as a HUGE Alice In Chains fan as well. Respect the name Heart. They put Seattle on the map musically

There is such a short list for greatest female rock vocalist all-time. Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett, Tina Turner, Debbie Harry (Blondie), Terri Nunn (Berlin "take my breath away"), Dolores O'Riordan (Zombies), Alanis Morissette...Cant forget her sister Nancy Wilson who actually sang lead in their only #1 hit "These Dreams"... but ANN WILSON just has the total package. Her voice during this song at 2:41 makes me melt when she hits that "Whisper game"... and even during the song of theirs called "Alone" when she belts out that high note "alone" WHEW!! My fav are Alanis, Pat, and Ann

I am so glad to see someone saying it. I was about to comment the same thing. I don't think its personal or on purpose. A lot of drummers don't get the credit they deserve. If you really don't have an ear for the genre or not too familiar with it, its very easy to put most of the focus on the vocals and lead guitar. Bass guitar, drums and keyboard rarely get their proper credit. lol Anne is phenomenal, but the band definitely isn't a simple a background band or being outshined either.

Ann is an absolute legend in the male dominated world of rock music. She and her sister have set the bar so high, in my opinion there's no other female rock singer out there that even comes close to her, there many females out there in rock but they can't hold a candle to her. She is highly respected in the business by tons of other bands and many of the female singers of today were inspired by her. She's also in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Barracuda is just one of many songs she's done. If you look on You Tube Heart performed in the late 70's in front of 300, 000 people at the California Jam.

She has a phenomenal timeless voice, but I am curious. What other singers do you know who rely on autotune, and can't actually sing? As a music fanatic, who listens to most genres from all time periods, there are a vast amount of amazing singers with a natural voice. Usually its some rappers and radio pop stars who use autotune. But I can name just as many current artists with phenomenal voices as I could during Annes time. No need to put down other forms of music in order to give credit to someone else. There are many forms of greatness, and Anne is merely one of them. Doesn't make her voice or impact any less. And if I am just oblivious, and there are these singers who I thought had an amazing voice but were actually using autotune. I'd love to know.
@kingjames1308

@@YerpDerp17 a large portion of pop artists are auto tuned these days, even during live performances. They are so preprocessed they sound flawless. Ann sounded that way with 70s recording tech. Beyonce, lady gaga, even Taylor Swift have used it. Google list of artist who use auto tune

Background to this song: The Wilson sisters revealed in various interviews that the song was about Heart's anger towards an ad Mushroom Records placed in trade publications implying that Ann and Nancy were lesbians having an affair. The song focuses on Ann's rage towards a promoter who came up to her after a concert in Detroit asking how her "lover" was. She initially thought he was talking about her then-boyfriend - band member Michael Fisher. After the promoter revealed he was talking about her sister Nancy Wilson, Ann became angry and went back to her hotel room to write the song. Nancy put suitably angry music to the words to complete the song comparing the sleazy side of music to a dangerous fish. Source:Songfacts

Cassettes didn't work, from what I've been told, I would just get mad that I couldn't see them. To say Ann Wilson has pipes is an understatement!! 80's Heart has some great pop hits but 70's Heart is where it's at, pure Rock & Roll!! Check out Magic Man, Crazy on You, and Sing Child all from The Dreamboat Annie Album....Also, their cover of Stairway to Heaven Live from The Kennedy Center Honors is such a great performance to check out

Lex’s jaw dropping is so perfect! Ann Wilson is known to be the greatest female rock singer EVER! I’ve seen Heart in the smallest bar to the biggest stadiums and everywhere in between! So off the chain! Her sister Nancy I’d SO GOOD check out Crazy On You! Roger Fisher on lead guitar, so frikkin GREAT! This band has changed line-ups and this, the original was the best in my opinion

There is such a short list. Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett, Tina Turner, Debbie Harry (Blondie), Terri Nunn (Berlin)...Cant forget her sister Nancy who actually sang lead in their only #1 hit "These Dreams"... but ANN just has the total package. Her voice during this song at 2:41 makes me melt when she hits that "Whisper game"... and even during the song of theirs called "Alone" when she belts out that high note "alone" WHEW!!

The Wilson sisters brought a whole new dynamic to the face of rock - hundreds of female- fronted bands tried to emulate this, &, as you assert Brad, couldn't really pull it off; there are of course, a few exceptions, but Heart was there first - & frankly, it shall never be bettered. 'Barracuda' is their seminal masterpiece....it really doesn't get much better than this - Happy New Year, Brad & Lex !!

If you want to see 2 good performances from the last 5-10 years, look at Heart's cover of Led Zepplin's Stairway to Heaven, and Heart playing Kick It Out on the Dave Letterman show with the Foo Fighters. Two really good performances that show that the Wilson sisters still have it even with Ann age 71 and Nancy age 67.

If you enjoyed Ann Wilson’s voice, you should enjoy Floor Jansen as well, on the same level as Ann Wilson vocally but surpasses her when it comes to live stage presence. She’s the 3rd/current lead singer for Nightwish. Don’t let any preconceptions you may have heard about Nightwish keep you from checking them out. Yes the original vocalist was 100% operatic… but she hasn’t been in the band for 16 years now. Floor can do the operatic, but her voice has ridiculous range in style/texture and she brings that to Nightwish. I’ve suggested them in super chat and discord many times, as have others. I’m hoping you guys will give them a 2-3 song taste because the music can vary from full on heavy/thrash metal to big symphonic metal (without operatic vocals) to folk metal. Short intro list to get you posted in a direction that sounds the most interesting to you: - Ghost Love Score (Wacken 2013); 10 min epic/grand structured as a score that you would hear through a 10 min sequence of movie scenes; cinematic sound scape. - Storytime (Wacken 2013); upbeat/faster tempo and cadence; super catchy hook; one of their more “mainstream” structured songs but still epic. - Romanticide (Wacken 2013); pure metal, thrash and heavy; vocals with the bassist (who is also a vocal lead in some songs and back in even more). - Weak Fantasy (Tampere 2016); drum solo intro; great lyrical content for Brad to sink his teeth into; dual vocals. - Noise (music video); great lyric content for Brad; amazing music video to match the lyrics. Live Nightwish is best Nightwish. All those live links are from official live albums, top quality. Symphonic metal has that epic nature that is so well suited for live performances and Floor’s stage presence is a rare talent, truthfully. Always use official live vids or music vids. There are good CC lyrics and NW’s label never blocks (content I’d yes, block no).

I saw them in concert 6 or 7 times (Can't say for sure everyone blew ganja smoke into my face several times lol) They never disappointed and gave a high quality professional performance every time and every song.
