Could you do a video on the Seminole Wars, it’s fascinating considering the Florida Seminole managed to remain Unconquered, and resisted removal.

Why this is not an HBO show, and be historically accurate, is beyond me. Would be compelling and educational

Truth. I've been saying this about the Revolutionary War era conflicts west of the Appalachians as well. You could be historically accurate and fair to both sides and in my opinion, it would be super interesting. The relationship/dynamic between Boone and Blackfish where they liked and respected each other while also simultaneously standing on opposite sides of the conflict, etc.

I’ve written a pilot episode for a show about my ancestor Col. William Claiborne who was involved in all of this, but as we all know it’s impossible to break through in the entertainment industry. The whole Baltimore vs. Claiborne episode during the founding of Maryland was insane too

I grew up in Virginia but never knew a lot of this. But Powhatan and Pamunkey and many other names are familiar. Thanks for the video.

My mother's ancestor, Christopher Reynolds, arrived in Jamestown in 1622. He worked aa a servant for a man named Bennett who owned a farm on the opposite bank of the James River from Jamestown. Not sure about the exact timing of his arrival in the colony whether it was before, during, or after the massacre of 1622. He obviously survived otherwise I wouldn't be here today.

Instead of slaughtering each other, if the natives cooperated from the beginning and formed protective organizations against foreigners, the country might be very different today. But their bloodthirsty nature and lust for dominance and greed won out. The tribes wrote their own obituaries.

You gotta do a Choctaw history video!

wait a minute. he starts off saying the muskets weren't as effective and accurate as the bows and arrows. after which, he says that 60 englishmen fought off 800 bowmen because of the mismatch of weapons. anyone else catch this? so what was it?
@okin-ft1op Жыл бұрын
Encyclopedia Virginia says that 60 Englishmen landed near a key Powhatan town. To the surprised of the natives most likely. There was a stalemate for 2 days. A few Englishmen took to destroying crops while natives were focused on the battle. Seeing 1 year worth of crops destroyed that could feed 4,000 men, the natives “gave over fightinge and dismayedly, stood most ruthfully lookinge one while theire corne was cutt downe” - governor’s Council. Looks like they gave up after seeing the extent of crop damage. That’s some background. Still doesn’t explain why so few casualties on the English side though.

@okin-ft1op still doesn't explained what I asked.

The English were wearing riveted maille armor, taken from deep storage in the Tower of London. Despite what the movies and television tell you, riveted maille armor works quite well against flint tipped arrows propelled by 40-pound bows. Theoretically, the natives could have simply overwhelmed by force of numbers, but their forces were more akin to a “flash mob,” composed of many small groups from all over the place who might or might not have known each other than an actual organized, centrally led army with a clear-cut chain of command. As a result, their attacks were uncoordinated efforts by separate groups which could be defeated in detail.

Correct I think he was referring to that conflict

I caught that too, my guess is when he said that muskets weren’t as effective he meant during guerrilla warfare in the forest, also muskets when used individually were ineffective because after they fired it took so long to reload the Natives would run up and kill the colonists after they fired and were trying to reload, but in that specific battle were there was a somewhat big group of Englishman massed fire when they all fired at once could be very deadly, the Indians were likely unwilling to charge them although they likely could’ve overwhelmed them with their superior numbers because the amount of deaths would’ve been too great, the Natives normally fought opportunistically when they had the advantage, also the English we’re probably wearing armor which helped. I am kind of skeptical that a lot of natives were actually killed in the battle though as they normally wouldn’t keep attacking if they knew the battle was unfavorable to them. Also it can be very hard to determine exact casualties for natives in many battles as they often took their dead warriors with them when retreating, meaning that most times when the battle was being written about after the fact, the amount of casualties is almost always an estimation and almost never known for sure, and sometimes prone to exaggeration by the Europeans.

It would have just delayed the inevitable European invasion, Japan in the late 1800s had no other option when the Americans came knocking.

Lmfao you say "the bow was more effective than the musket." A few moments later refer to a battle where 800 bowman lost to 60 english guns. Just wow the logical jumps needed to say what you did at 2mins.
