This is the stupidest plan I ever heard of! We have been putting money into social security for years. Why should we have to pay it back! The $450 a week for people to go back to work, what the hell! Tanessa Jones - Congress was playing a game to score cheap political points. They went on vacation, came back with a proposal that had a $3 trillion price tag, packed it full with partisan elements such as amnesty, and voted on it with their majority without any debates or discussions with the other side. They didn’t even try to create a bipartisan proposal, they passed something they knew would not pass in the senate so that they can point to the other party and claim cheap political points. If there was ever a time for congress AND the senate to do their jobs, and come together in a bipartisan way, it is now. Congress has failed to do this and continues to do so. Congress is just another example of how politicians in Washington are disconnected with real America. They live in their own political world playing fast ball and scoring cheap political points off each other. And the media facilitated this with salacious headlines pushing a constant ideological agenda. People who don’t take the time to do their own research end up reading these headlines and fall for their political nonsense. At a time like this, both the congress AND senate should be working non stop to come up with a real bipartisan bill that helps Americans. Instead they want to take vacations and make this into a circus with show bills that won’t ever actually pass. They’re wasting our time and tax payer money. They honestly shouldn’t even get paid until they actually get back to work. Because rn we have nearly 40M people applying for unemployment and can’t even pay their bills, meanwhile congress AND the senate are both goofing off scoring cheap political points off each other. I’m a state employee, I worked the entire time risked my health and that of my three kids. Yet I feel like we get no appreciation. It’s expected of us because we are state employees but I make garbage so I end up paying for our “benefits” on the front end. We are essential employees and unfortunately the division I work in has been on a raise freeze for 5 years! So I’m locked in at min pay. I also had extra expenses because of this pandemic. And I have to dig into my SS to get a “stimulus” that’s bs! Complete and utter incompetence by the senate! In the mean time I keep paying my damn taxes while getting the short end of the stick! Bs!

@@msdiva2u147 We could do it, $2400 a month for 6 months would come out to somewhat less than $5tn before including the taxes on the benefits. That would be roughly $600 a week for every man woman and child in the country. The figure could be reduced somewhat by halving the amount for children and taxing it back for those that are making more than $100k for the year. But, compared to the stupid stuff that caused us to have the $20tn debt we had in 2016, it would at least go to people that needed it rather than for tax breaks for the rich or out out of control defense budget.

What’s really messed up. I’m an auto mechanic. Considered a essential worker. I take home about 700$ every TWO weeks. I don’t owe child support or anything. I work as medication tech. I got my job after the May 22nd joplin tornado. I didn't think I would like it but I love it. Got all my training and certification through work. Hi, I watch you every day, but this is my 1st time writing. It might help those who have not yet received their stimulus check to know that the IRS Stimulus Helpline is available. I know because I used it, discovered the problem (a mistake on their part), resulting in my check being held up, but now being released to me in 2 days (May 28th). And, yes, you get to talk to a “live” person; two, in fact. The 1st person weeds out the frivolous calls, and the 2nd actually helps! Thank you so much for your hard work and help. Agreed!!! I'm not considered as being a "hero", even though my essential job is to transport the elderly, and sick back and forth to treatments and doctor's visits. Granted I'm still working, but...I have and still am losing hours weekly because we also provide regular taxi service which ridership is down because of businesses being shut down. My wife, who worked as a reservation specialist for a hotel chain, was laid off several weeks ago. Granted she'll be getting that extra $600 a week, but that doesn't come close to covering what I made with all my hours and her full paycheck. I got an idea... Perhaps we should somehow re-write the original stimulus bill and NOT give millions and billions to pork programs like the Met and Planned Parenthood.

There's still jobs, but I don't think there's enough for everybody. Not to mention that there are people who can't take them due to being high risk for complications if they get infected. The problem though is that some people are not trying to find work because unemployment is paying so much and they're trying to work things out so that they get hired closer to when the stimulus enchancements run out. But, there are a significant number of low paying jobs out there that haven't been filled and may go unfilled for quite some time. The best solution would likely to be to extend benefits and just pay essential workers more money to even it out. I make barely more than the stimulus enhancement is paying alone.

Please understand, people such as some disabled Veterans for one example, aren't able to work, and aren't getting any additional income either during this. Not everyone receiving state services is doing something wrong or bad. Definitely, giving everybody in the country UBI would have been less expensive than what they chose to do. They could give everybody in the country $600 a week for an entire year for $10tn, which is not that much more than what they've already committed to spending on this. They could also have done something for essential workers to both reflect our risks and to make it more attractive to people on unemployment. The unemployment insurance right now is paying out more than what many essential workers are making, just from the stimulus bonus added to the checks.

I left my job of 3 years due to hostile work environment right before the virus hit. I was denied unemployment, so I have not received UI or the $600 bonus per week, so no money at all. Taking care of my elderly mom too, so I have to be careful about being exposed. Hoping a financial boost gets approved by the government, and one that I can receive.
