Wow! In a society that is called the “soundbite generation,” it’s refreshing to hear a pastor slow down and really explain the context of this passage. Illegitimate totality transfer - a big phrase but sadly too common. I left a previous church back in 2020 and the list of reasons keeps growing as to why I left. One of the reasons was because the pastor was guilty of illegitimate totality transfer in Revelation 2:18-29. Thank you, Pastor Andy for taking the necessary time to go through this very slowly but thoroughly! I own a copy of your booklet “The Falling Away Spiritual Departure or Physical Departure.” I’m quite convinced 2 Thessalonians 2:3 is a physical departure.

💯 So much more compelling an argument that Andy makes for a physical departure as opposed to the traditionally accepted and typically unquestioned interpretation of a doctrinal departure. The thing that gets me the most is when otherwise seemingly intelligent and spiritually discerning people summarily dismiss even the possibility that Andy's interpretation is the correct one without even hearing it out. And then the argument that they make for the doctrinal departure is so flimsy. Smh. I am just amazed how the Lord tolerates us.

I would question Andy too if I after studying and pondering on it for some time but I would ask Andy first for clarification not go out and shout about it and that’s what so many are doing & it’s so sad to see the enemy is having a field day with the Bride as he does not want us to have a blessed hope.

I always pray and ask God for wisdom & discernment. I have many good pastor teachers I follow, but I know "no man" is infallible so I always put on my Berean hat.

I 100% agree that the rapture is what 2 Thess. 2:3 is speaking of. Was taught it was a falling away from the faith until I did my own study. There are some early church fathers who correctly stated this has to do with the harpazo (the rapture) that Paul mentions in a lot of detail in 1 Thess.

Apostasia in Acts 21:21 still means departure, and the context tells us it is from "Moses". Without the disclaimer "Moses", we would not know the meaning of the departure. The claim was that some were alleging that Paul was leading Jews to depart from Moses.

Andy Woods. There should be no debate about the pre-tribulation rapture if people study the Biblical end times, because the Bible clearly teaches a pre-tribulation rapture. In relation to the coming great tribulation period, both Jesus and Paul said we won't go through it.

Appreciate your teaching Pastor Andy. Love the attention to detail. I think "the departure" is a secondary issue. I could be wrong, but either way, the Church flies away before the wrath is revealed. Amir is a teacher and a very good one, but he's not the only one that holds the view of the falling away re: doctrine. Again, either way, the church is off the planet.

I have great respect for Pastor Andy and his sound biblical teaching. He is one of my favorite online Bible teachers from whom I have learned a ton. For that reason it is all the more perplexing to me why he continues to imho erroneously state that there are five things that "have to happen concurrently for one to know they are in the tribulation period." 1) the apostasy (rapture), 2) the advent or revealing of the lawless one, 3) removal of the Restrainer, 4)Destruction of the lawless one, and 5) destruction of the lawless one's followers. I can clearly see where the first three happen very early on at the start of the tribulation. However, the last two, the destruction of the Antichrist himself and his followers, do not happen until the end of the tribulation. So there are clearly multiple years that exist within Daniel's 70th week where someone would be able to definitively know they are in that 7-year period without the 4th and 5th item having happened yet. That seems incredibly straightforward and simple to me. What am I missing here? A person will not have to see the destruction of the Antichrist or His followers in order to know that they are in the tribulation. They will know it after the rapture takes place and then the Antichrist is revealed while the Restrainer (the Holy Spirit in the Church) has been removed. It will be years later before the AC and his followers are destroyed. Furthermore, one would unequivocally, absolutely know they were in the tribulation when they see the abomination of desolation take place, which we all know takes place at the midpoint and is still several years before items four and five would occur. So again, the logic does not hold up that those five items are all prerequisites before one could know with certainty that they were in the 70th week of Daniel. Somebody please correct me and show me from the Word where I'm wrong, because from where I stand the way he is stating it is simply not accurate. It's really perplexing to me.

And of course there will be some people who enter the 70th week without a clue of what is happening biblically. I don't disagree with either of those points you make, but neither of them are relevant to the point I am making. Actually if you carefully read what I am saying, your response only serves to confirm that I am not wrong. The AofD occurs at the midpoint of Daniel's 70th. Any tribulation saint that knows their Bible and sees that event occur will absolutely know at that moment they are in the tribulation period. Yet, they will NOT have to wait for points 4 & 5 (destruction of AC and destruction of AC followers) to take place to know they are in the 7-year trib, which is what Andy's statement clearly implies. They will know they are in Daniel's 70th at least 3.5 years ahead of event numbers 4 & 5 being fulfilled. Therefore, to state as Andy did that someone must see all 5 things on Andy's list concurrently happen before they can know for sure they are in the trib is simply untrue. While I do not disagree with any "supporting" points you make in your response, the logic you ultimately apply to supposedly show that my original statement is somehow wrong just does not hold up. The specific way and verbiage that Andy used to describe it is still not correct and nothing in your argument convinces otherwise. The ironic thing to me is that I'm convinced, based on all his other teachings I have heard over the years, that even Andy himself doesn't really believe what he said. I am more inclined to believe he just chose some unfortunately confusing and ultimately inaccurate words to try to communicate his point.

Having been under public attack for his correction of Amir Tsarfati's poor exegesis, must be hard and maybe he just hasn't had the time to get to all the many comments, emails, etc that no doubt have piled up. I find this hard to understand, I follow your explanations of the various uses of the verbs and nouns, but as you say… context. That is where you loose me. If I’m to understand you correctly, 2 Thes 2:1b (in paraphrase) …by our gathering together unto him (is there any other way to understand this other than rapture?), ….v3 ….that day (rapture?) shall not come, except there come a (rapture) first….. you loose me there. To my logic that makes no sense and falling away does. Unless of course v1 gathering together unto him is the judgement- the separation of the sheep and goats, but I’ve never heard that explanation given, and it doesn’t fit the plain reading of Paul speaking only to the brethren. Please explain further : if I am to read “falling away” as “rapture”instead, how am I to understand “our gathering together unto him”? Please help me to understand better

NKJV II Thess 2 (translation based on Textus Receptus) Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ (RAPTURE) had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day (RAPTURE) will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, Textus Receptus Greek - Day of Christos (Day of Christ, a postive event) Nestle-Aland Greek - Day of Kyrios (Day of the LORD, a negative event) used by many modern translations; It makes sense when you read it as Day of Christ. The falling away, I tend to think, is when many "professing" Christians follow the A/C at his revelation at the Abom of Des. (which happens just BEFORE the Rapture). The issue is one word (Christ or Lord) which changes entirely the meaning of these verses. We are not appointed to wrath, but the wrath is not until after the Abom. of Des (Joel says there are cosmic disturbances in heaven before the wrath, which does not occur at the beginning of the 7 years). I do appreciate Dr. Andy Woods greatly, even if I have come to disagree with his view on this particular issue. I also appreciate Dr. Fruchtenbaum, who has switched to Dr. Woods' view. I also recommend Dr. Baruch Korman, who finally clarified for me what the problem was with understanding this passage.

When Jesus, James, John, Peter and Paul and the rest said things like “the time is at hand”, “the end of all things is at hand”, “it is the last hour”, “some standing here shall not taste death till the Son of Man comes in His kingdom”, “it is the last hour”, “this generation shall not pass till ALL of these things be fulfilled”, etc, etc you should believe it and understand who was being spoken to. Hint: it’s not us. The end times of the Bible already happened or Jesus and His disciples lied to their contemporaries. The Tribulation, Rapture, Resurrection and the book of Revelation all happened by 70ad. There is no other way to make sense of the time statements if you’re an honest student of the Bible.
