Given that at one time the Clyde accounted for 20% of the world's ship building it always amazed me given how narrow it is [see video] in comparison to other major rivers. I suppose the launch of The Queen Mary wouldn't have been quite as iconic if there had been no champagne and it had been serenely floated down stream .
@peterpaszczak40134 ай бұрын
I don't think you can compare the two, different size, profile, tonnage, displacement, even where the QM was launched into the mouth of the River Cart at John Browns yard where the Clyde is much wider than it is at Govan...no comparison at all.
@DouglasThomson-pl6sl4 ай бұрын
@@peterpaszczak4013 The fact remains that the Clyde is exceptionally narrow for such a prolific producer of ships notwithstanding that area at the Cart. It's no Mersey that's for sure.

When I look at developments like this with the Type 26 taking shape it gives me hope about the U.K.. If only the government and civil servants would get out of the way of planning and development and let our smartest people, including inventors, scientists and engineers get on with the job in developing what’s needed to make this country great again. It’s like we are walking blindfolded with our hands tied behind our backs. How can the U.K. hold its head up high in this world when we know we aren’t at our best. That’s the same for Canada and Australia and New Zealand. America has problems too but their government doesn’t hold back their progress.

Given the title of this video, it was good to see the aerial shots of HMS Cardiff being carried down river but, honestly, slightly disappointing to see only half of the video devoted to her passage with the other half devoted to almost endless repeated views of HMS Glasgow. Fortunately, I was able to see her up close today in person as she swept by and as she approached HMS Glasgow, I imagine that the sudden blaring of horns, etc., was intended as a greeting to say hello to her older sister at that point in her journey.
