Had two happy years serving on the previous HMS Cardiff in the early 90’s would love an invite up to the commissioning ceremony, twice as many crew on the D108 😂

Canada needs those ships faster than we will get them so they should be tooling up Davie for some sub-assemblies The Brits will de-bug the design ahead of us. The power plant is a bit revolutionary.

@Вивсівідстій your country has lost countless ships to a enemy with no navy, how did you even lose something as big and high tonnage as a cruiser?

@@Вивсівідстій Since you are a Russian bot, you need to that Canada would need at least 10 of the Type 26 destroyers, 5 for each ocean and 2 for spare when 1 of the active ships are in for maintenance while we are track all ofv the Russian fleets by satellites.

Given that at one time the Clyde accounted for 20% of the world's ship building it always amazed me given how narrow it is [see video] in comparison to other major rivers. I suppose the launch of The Queen Mary wouldn't have been quite as iconic if there had been no champagne and it had been serenely floated down stream .
@peterpaszczak4013
@peterpaszczak4013 4 ай бұрын
I don't think you can compare the two, different size, profile, tonnage, displacement, even where the QM was launched into the mouth of the River Cart at John Browns yard where the Clyde is much wider than it is at Govan...no comparison at all.
@DouglasThomson-pl6sl
@DouglasThomson-pl6sl 4 ай бұрын
@@peterpaszczak4013 The fact remains that the Clyde is exceptionally narrow for such a prolific producer of ships notwithstanding that area at the Cart. It's no Mersey that's for sure.

@@DouglasThomson-pl6sl ...but at the height of the British ship building industry still managed to build 2/3rds of the ships to come out of British shipyards. In this case size isn't everything.

Wow! When BAE Systems work properly they really do work! If only they could be more reliable and consistent maybe we’d get our money’s worth from our defence budget then. Right now we are being ripped off.

When I look at developments like this with the Type 26 taking shape it gives me hope about the U.K.. If only the government and civil servants would get out of the way of planning and development and let our smartest people, including inventors, scientists and engineers get on with the job in developing what’s needed to make this country great again. It’s like we are walking blindfolded with our hands tied behind our backs. How can the U.K. hold its head up high in this world when we know we aren’t at our best. That’s the same for Canada and Australia and New Zealand. America has problems too but their government doesn’t hold back their progress.

The 1998 strategic defence review said we needed 20 frigates. Even with 14 Type 26s (the original number), we would still need 6 Type 31s to reach 20 in total. In other words; "Why not both?"

Given the title of this video, it was good to see the aerial shots of HMS Cardiff being carried down river but, honestly, slightly disappointing to see only half of the video devoted to her passage with the other half devoted to almost endless repeated views of HMS Glasgow. Fortunately, I was able to see her up close today in person as she swept by and as she approached HMS Glasgow, I imagine that the sudden blaring of horns, etc., was intended as a greeting to say hello to her older sister at that point in her journey.
