Everyone else carried on with life and just assumes there's nothing left living in these isolated areas. The characters of these respective games are just mistaken about it being a global apocalypse and the few who've wandered far enough to learn of the true minor nature of these disasters rarely return to inform the continuous residents. If you're looking a substance/mineral/herb/something-or-other that can do all the things mentioned (miraculous healing, creating mutants, being extremely volatile, etc) and can basically be described as "it does whatever the writers need it to be able to do for the current plot", I'd suggest Tiberium, from the Command & Conquer mainline series. It's a glowing green crystal of mysterious origin that self-replicates and, again, has the power to do whatever the writer needs it to be able to do for the current plot. Bonus: the villain of the series is called Kane, he lives in Eastern Europe, and he seems to have mysterious otherworldly powers. Secretly a vampire? Secretly (or maybe not-so-secretly) the same person as Kain? Could be!

As a personal choice, i'd actually lay down 2077 as "The year that everything got fucked up". Three reasons. One is that several games conveniently align on the date such as Fallout's 2077 nuclear holocaust and Cyberpunk 2077's Night City being among the world's worst places to live, two being that it's far enough in the future that most modern video games can happen so robot technology can become a mainstay like with Hi-Fi Rush, Megaman, Overwatch, Nier Automata etc., but the third main one is that it also aligns with Xenoblade and Xenosaga's sci-fi elements. I won't go into massive spoiler details, but this is roughly when multiversal events go haywire due to an off-shore science facility (being facilities anchored to the earth ala that amusement park in Sonic Colors) accidentally causes a few rifts in space-time and causes everyone to either die, be forced to evacuate or just disappear into other branches of the universe. You could add a lot of fun stuff like with Doom's apocalypse events (Doom 3 takes place in 2145 so potentially shit went down prior to that), people being warped into other planes of existence resulting in a bunch of the Isekai scenarios (also conveniently explained in-universe with Xenoblade), potentially the people that survived on the surface lose a lot of communication technology and become pre-tech again like with Horizon, of course there's the universe exploration that occurred as a result of earth's evacuation such as with Metroid, Callisto Protocol, Borderlands, F-Zero and so on, and it'd conveniently allow for ancient alien artifacts to exist on the earth as a result of the experiments in that facility. It's not a perfect explanation for all titles, but it acts as a nice point in time to show that the entire world is at least partially fucked and forced to either evolve or rebuild or why some places just stopped existing at all.

I imagine "Space Cop/Bounty Hunter" is essentially a part time job as judged by Borderlands, Metroid, F-Zero, Star Fox and so on. The events of stuff like Callisto Protocol and Dead Space would essentially become a backdrop for a Metroid game, which is very funny to me.

@SoldierDelta3 ай бұрын
@@pickyphysicsstudent201 That's a pretty good point, but a point to be made is that 2 billion people are still alive after the events of VLR. It's an apocalypse, but it's an apocalypse that's survivable. Furthermore, to avoid going in-depth with spoilers, the canon ending of the series with ZTD results in VLR's timeline being preventable, so the true apocalypse in 2077 can start with Doom, Fallout and Xenoblade. That said, the existence of "ESPers" in Zero Escape does align with a lot of titles and one-off character in specific titles, such as Sephiroth, Pokemon with psychic powers, even people like Jodie Holmes in Beyond Two Souls. Just a subsection of humans with odd powers. What if Mama Murphy from Fallout 4 is a distant descendant of Carlos from Zero Escape? Wouldn't that be mad?

@SoldierDelta3 ай бұрын
@@comet-fy6pd Thankfully there's a lot of sci-fi stories that can allow the existence of alternate versions of the same earth with minor or major discrepancies. Zero Escape, Xeno, hell even the Shin Megami Tensei series including Persona 3, 4 and 5 all count as titles that could solve these problems. Zero Escape solves the "multiple realities and psychics" problem with the existence of Espers, Xenosaga and Blade both allow for a whole bunch of shenanigans about worlds and AI creations and SMT just allow for the existence of doomed earths and even Persona 3 hints at the potential of creation alternate worlds or world-shaking aspects. In theory the answer can be "Yes we can fit all of them" however there will be a lot of contradictions depending on the series or game. Half Life 2 is a pretty notable example of these kinds of problems because the game directly states a population-wiping alien invasion happens in the early 21st century. The only explanation for something like that is that a Zero Escape psychic is able to prevent the HL1 resonance cascade.

I further suggest a post-post apocalypse map, where we can fit all the worlds (like pokemon), where we have some bizarre futuristic technology, yet people seem to live in quaint little villages surrounded by the now recovered nature. This also makes pokemon themselves make more sense as highly evolved and mutated species.
@julianemery7183 ай бұрын
In a way, I think this would make sense for the everything-crossover, cos some games seemingly take place in the same area(s) so it would only make sense for them to be separated by time. Notably almost every pokemon region has a local, or semi local pokeball factory, so maybe pokemon training is mostly localized to the few locations that those factories are profitable. also, technically, normal animals aren't originally videogame characters and thus don't exist... that's to much of a stretch nevermind.

Fun fact: Black Mesa is the name of several real mountains in northern New Mexico. The various tribes had names in separate languages for several places that all translate to "black mesa" and the nuance was lost when the Spanish came in and renamed everything in Spanish. This only got worse when English was brought in after the Mexican-American War. Today the tribes are reverting some names back to Keres, Tiwa, Tewa, or other local languages, though Federal maps will still use the old Spanish or modern English names unless recognized by the Bureau of Indian Affairs (fucked up history, I know, but welcome to America). An example is the town of Pojoaque (Spanish) becoming P'osuwaegeh (Tewa) to the local Pueblo but the road signage still reads as the Spanish name. Another is the San Juan Pueblo reverting to their old name of Ohkay Owingeh and have been recognized by BIA, so their land reads Ohkay Owingeh instead of San Juan.

I love the idea of stitching video game worlds together to create one big connected universe. Even if it doesn’t make much sense. In my headcanon all the Ubisoft games take place in the same timeline. An idea tentatively supported by Far Cry 3 (which has a bonus mission where you explore an Abstergo facility), Far Cry 6 (you can discover some broken Hidden Blades), Watch Dogs (one bonus mission lets you assassinate a character from AC4) and Watch Dogs Legion (DLC let’s you literally recruit an Assassin). I will admit Far Cry 5 makes connecting things difficult.
@LurkinHandworker3 ай бұрын
I thought about that too. Let's say they are not in chronological order. All the Assassin's Creed Animus plot is definitely set in ye olden times, that's easy. We can kinda add there a bit from Far Cry 4 about the mythological tibetan hero, right? That's about the "bleeding effect" and how your ancestors memory may act when you don't have a nifty sci-fi bed and cool helmet. And Far Cry Primal is definitely prehistoric. No doubt about that. OK, so in Assassin's Creed Valhalla the plot point is "the end of the world", the phones act up and there is constantly no signal. Like the point in Far Cry 5 about why Hope County could not act against the Seed family! And why would Aiden Pierce, Jordi and all other recurring characters from Watch_Dogs move from US to Britain? Cause there is nuclear apocalypse happening! That's just something from the top of the head Like Yahtz said, this is fun!

Regarding the part about magic disappearing, you could draw inspiration from how the Fate series handles it: basically, magic needs mystery in order to exist, and as the world grew more and more analytical and science-minded, mystery slowly disappeared, and magic alongside with it, hence why in modern days, magic is relagated to the realm of fiction and its existence kept secret, so that the mystery surrounding it keeps subsisting.
