This man's baskets are stunning, and I appreciate that he shared his knowledge of how to do it. There are a lot of nasty comments below about how the guy is just "trying to sell stuff." As a long-time gardener, the truth is you cannot have flowers that look like this unless you use the right fertilizers and use them often enough. It was nice he shared what he does. Come on folks, it's not necessary to be so critical. If you've ever had any success at growing anything you know you need fertilizers. Sheesh.

Hi Rennie I was so happy to learn how to grow a basket that looks and is so full and fresh. I just wonder why people come onto these wonderful videos that people take the time to try and make. Always there seems to be some bad apples that turn a comment and a comment reply area into a bunch of bullies. Its like one moron will tell the group, lets go on the hanging basket video, its so stupid and then they go into flinging their poopy brain thoughts around. I can tell now because they act like a gang of thugs. Are they so useless thats all they do, hurt people they hope, and anyone who dare stands up to them, with a group comment bashing? The opposers also seem to enjoy it and all their retarded sub normal vocabulary gets really going. BORING. I just write good things about anything and I don’t say anything I would not want to someone to say to me or any human. Those roaming groups of idiot sticks show up in the strangest places. Who would think there are trolls and dishrags actually WANTING to see a vid like this and learn. I was thrilled to learn about a good brand of fertilizers and the importance of the phosphoric at 58! OMG. I dont have to buy that brand, in fact he didnt even mention the maker of the regular fertilizers. So, it is up to me to look for a brand near here that is comparable in values that he demonstrated. I write around the mud for brains and just shake my head. I guess Satin does have his evildoers where you least expect it. Thanks for standing head and shoulders above the crowd, keep it “up”.👍🏻

I did everything he recommended for my baskets this year and they are fabulous! Every one that sees them comments on how beautiful and full they are. It is the end of October here (IN) and they are still gorgeous. Usually by now the baskets are pretty scraggly and not pretty, and I am so ready to get rid of them. This year I will wait till a freeze kills them. I just wish I had room to bring them all inside, I have enjoyed them that much. THANK YOU so much for sharing your knowledge.

Another two tips are coco coir doesn't have the issue peat based mixes do with rehydrating when they completely dry out. There are also water crystals you can buy and sprinkle some into the potting mix to help it hold more water without it being soggy and suffocating the plants. It's the same stuff in baby diapers nontoxic a big tub is only like 5-10 dollars. biochar is also great to add in at 10% the mix if you have the money. lol and another thing is dyna gro silica really helps the plant stems and cell structure be more rigid and resist heat stress and water loss, it also helps the plant utilize fertilizers better and resist disease and pests. It's pretty cheap for how little is used.

You might have a nursery willing to babysit your baskets (for a price) like we saw while living in Alaska. I loved going to the nursing in the dead of winter as it was beautiful.
@karmelicanke2 жыл бұрын
coir containers just introduce another cause of plants drying out. I just line the pot with heavy plastic like a heavy black trash bag and the pot does not dry out and is still moist by evening. A morning watering is all that is needed, no water retaining additives required and that saves $$$.

@@sookie4195 Since you seem so educated on the subject, how about you let us know specifically what in these products are harmful to bees? Perhaps if you did it in a thoughtful manner, minus the attitude and judgement, people might be open to hearing your message. These “chemicals” are NOT pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides, some of which might be harmful to bees. The products listed are a wetting agent, compost tea and a water soluble fertilizer. As an Indian let me give you a tip to make your soil absorb water even more... just add organic matter to your soil like dry leaves decomposed or even half decomposed kitchen waste, cow dung manure etc .. this will provide huge nutrition to your plant and will help the soil hold moisture for longer period of time.. and do limit use of chemical fertilisers to your soil...

True, but in a hanging basket, in full sun, you are talking about a fairly unnatural situation, even though the results are beautiful. The problem you run into is there is simply not enough space in the pot for the volume of organic matter, and potting soil to meet the needs of the plant. I had wondered, I expected the answer to be a combination of sustained release fertilizer and weekly watering with chemical fertilizers.

I had to put up netting supported by an outdoor wall sconce and by August, there were so many heavy vines they were pulling the wall sconce off the house. They were a spectacular deep purple color, especially next to some bright yellow zinnias I started from seed, but I am very careful not to spill any more Seedlingers!

It really isn't about specific products so much as 'types' of products. And what that 'type' of product does! There is McDonalds, so of course there are all of the other, similar places--- Burger King, Wendy's, Jack in the Box, etc. Etc. Is one significantly different from another? Not really. Cheap, crappy food with high salt, high fat and no nutrition! Or, if there is a Shell gas station on one corner the others will be BP and Mobil, and something else on the remaining one. Always someone there to cash in on the others success. Any product he featured is made by 10 other companies, with home made versions for those who do that, found on line with recipes! No one has truely proprietary products anymore. As soon as something comes out others are there to cash in. Why would his products be any different? They aren't! What he was really explaining was his technique or process. His rational. Which is the most important part of the entire video. You do not need the same EXACT products, but you might want to use similar products! Which are available at retailers, near you! So shop in your area before there aren't any stores left to shop at! They can not stay open if there are no customers! Then you will be at the mercy of Amazon, Walmart, etc. And once they have the entire market what do you think will happen to prices then????!!!!! You ain't seen anything as far as price increases go yet! So shop and support your local merchants! Or don't complain when the big guys have you by the *****! Which will occur--- unless people start to wake up! Not caring is the quickest pathway to hell!
@paulortiz20352 жыл бұрын
I also use the liquid absorbing part of a diaper, mixed into the soil. It holds a bit of water that the roots can sip, as needed. Found a pack of disposables at a rummage sale for $2, ripped the fluffy stuff out, ground it up with the soil less mix and---- works great! Cheap, too! Cheaper than the crystals available!

You need to cut the bottle so the cut edge is just standing proud of the soil. I use a metal skewer, which I heat on the gas ring and it goes through the plastic easily and you can wiggle it to make the hole as big as you want.

Siree, great idea! You must be talking about a very large planter or large hanging plant? A water bottle plus the plants themselves take up alot of space. Maybe a long skinny bottle would work better? So you plant the bottle (with holes in it) next to the center with the top sticking out and pour water into the spout of the buried water bottle and it will seep into the plant to water it? Just wanted to clarify and confirm before I start thinking about my planters and hanging plants for this upcoming season. If anyone else has some helpful hints, I would greatly appreciate your ideas! Thank you so much! 🙂

“Thank you” in sharing helpful hints, so we can keep our plants looking pretty!! I am having problems with my Gardenia plant (2 ft tall) which I have in a big pot, outside. Texas is a hot state and hope I can keep it alive (my Mom’s favorite plant)

I stopped trying to make my own baskets years ago.Spent tons of money and they never looked like I wanted. Found a great local family run nursery that made the most beautiful planters and hanging baskets for $35-50 depending on the size. Could not do them myself for that amount and have them look like so beautiful. They know what they are doing and I reap the benefit.

Wow Gorgeous!!! I love the science...he shared. I have failed all my hanging plants living in Nevada and gave up, I moved to San Diego with a more gentle climate and still have not seen plants that amazing anywhere, maybe Disney Land but they have a full crew of Horticulturist I imagine. Anyhow thank you for sharing I will pass video on to my mother in Texas cause I know she has not mastered this hanging beauty to this level and might want to explore that now being retired.

Gorgeous plants. Been a gardener for over 30 years and I had never heard of the first product you talked about or the fertilizers brand either. Thank you for sharing. Makes the difference between a pretty hanging basket and one that just has the “Wow” factor! Thanks for sharing! @@kat64470 It's the store that owns the KZbin Channel. I got my order VERY quickly. They offer the products in a bundle for about $35. I'll be planting my seedling flowers tomorrow using the products I ordered. Can't wait for beautiful hanging baskets...it's been such a lousy Spring w/ too much cold weather!

If he didn't tell you what he used, you would say he's hiding his secrets. Clearly he is not. He is kind enough to tell which products actually work. Beautiful blooms. They do need a lot of proper care in keeping them spherical. City and towns keep their pots beautiful as well. It does not work for me though.
