*Advice for Year 10/11:* - - - - - - - - - start revising immediately; don’t bother worrying about if it’s too late, just start - find a technique and sometimes you may require different techniques for different subjects. - get a textbook to keep on track with all the topics and use it when making revision notes or trying to learn it rather than revising directly from it - get in the right mindset; ignore people saying that mocks are easier/harder or exams get harder each year, just focus on learning the content - do questions and learn exam techniques and how to adapt your knowledge to a question EDIT; - *Year 9:* if you start your gcse in year 9, then just keep on top of things, make sure you are making notes/revision resources to help but don't feel as if you need to do lots and lots of work. keep your focus in lessons and keep track of your progress - *Year 9:* if you aren't starting your gcse in year 9, the topics you learn still are relevant to gcse and will be massive help if you understand them now. keep track of your progress but also try to think about what subjects you enjoy the content in. year 9 work for you won't be exactly what you will be doing at gcse but you can still get a feel for what you like - also don't eliminate or give up in the lessons you don't like because you never know you could end up liking it by the end of the year if you give it a chance - read the specification to see what you need to know. the specification is a literal textbook itself but it's less student-friendly and more for teachers but you can still use it to help - if you do a lvl1/2 btec course then make sure you check the specification too to make sure when you do coursework that it meets the requirements for the exam board. this is what i did and i got a level 2 distinction* so just make sure you use it as a checklist - if you struggle with a topic at school, ask your teachers for help or go online and watch a video on it. make sure you understand the topic in advance to you revising the topic because it will make life so much easier - if you hate revision timetables, then make one that has all the topics listed on the side and as revise each one, you can give it yellow, green or red depending on how you felt revising the topic and then when you come back it to a week later, you are only focusing on the yellow/red ones. if you understand the red topic now, you can make it green and focus on the next yellow/red topic - use your resources to your advantage. if your school has bought something for you to use, use it. if you dont find it helpful then you don't have to use it but try to find something that will help you. Here are a few suggestions: onmaths.com physicsonline primerosekitten physics and maths tutor mathsgenie freesciencelessons oakacademy savemyexams corbettmaths

- start revising immediately; don’t bother worrying about if it’s too late, just start. Do not recommend. Leave the start of the year open, just keep up with homework and go over anything you don't understand. Enjoy your last few months of "freedom" Everything else I agree with
@emilywilliams21904 жыл бұрын
Yup, as an ex yr 11 I can vouch for this. The exam questions seem draining to practice and write out, but it's worth it when you have your ideas and structure etc sorted out when its comes to the real thing!
@robloxftw90134 жыл бұрын
@@robmarshall9026 Yes I understand that but what I mean is that some people get into the mindset 1 week before their exam/mocks and say "oh i left it too late now, why bother with revision". Instead of thinking that way, focus what you can do even if it's just a bit. Also, I would at the start of maybe Year 10 space out work more/revision (if any) to allow more time for yourself and not overload yourself. But ideally in Year 10, you should start getting practice at revision and have some resources for the subjects that will be useful for Year 11.

The old ‘actually very bright’ really pisses me off for some reason cos It’s just not true and telling a kid that might mean they just won’t work when in actual fact if you just work at it you will pass. And giving a target 7 and 8 to someone who realistically isn’t going to get that isn’t fair because they may expect that and be upset when they don’t get it
@Isabel-cm7vj4 жыл бұрын
She seems able to reach it tho. She is determined to get into Uni and wants good grades. I tutor some students in my spare time for gcse and A level maths and sciences and most of them do way better when they figure out how to revise, better studying techniques, fully understand basic concepts and develop critical skills. It takes time and some more effort for some students but they are capable of reaching their goals if they are willing to work hard. She struggles with performing and stressing unnecessarily in exams which is quite common. It takes time to get over that. I'm sure she was fine in her exams if she got over that fear.
@trishafebs7004 жыл бұрын

You're so right. Gcses were stressful but they didnt need to be! You're not competing with anyone, you only need to do your best. Work out what you need to get into college (4 grade 5s) or your course (to do science you need a 7) and just work steadily, just a bit every day and you'll be okay. Gcses do not matter later in life, they only matter until you've done your a levels. So dont stress, take care of your mental and physical health and try not to drop hobbies bc they are important in your life. You'll do great!

Not everyones gift is academic, everyone learns differently and has different interests. Schools put alot of pressure on kids to do well and get high marks in subjects that in the 'real world' don't mean much. The curriculum needs to change to cover lots of different subjects, help nurture all skills and the challenges that life and work brings.

This is why I absolutely LOVE money. They give you freedom to dedicate your time (read life) to something you find really meaningful (as opposed to just clocking in and out mindlessly from a job you hate day in and day out). What this lovely man is doing is giving real purpose to his life...by being able to dedicate his time to OTHERS (which is one of the few things that does give a meaning to one’s life). So, study hard kiddos, become great, hardworking, honest citizens....don’t shy away from money (it is just a tool after all)...and when you are well off and have your freedom, then go and do good in the world. It helps others and it gives YOUR life the meaning we all are searching for yet so few of us find it. Have a great day everyone. Study! 😉

I was exactly the same as Courtney. I fucked up all my exams & left with nothing but my life didn’t end. I’m 34 now & think there way too much pressure on kids today, especially with all the changes going on at that age. I worked hard when I left school & when people see that doors open! This isn’t your only chance guys try & relax
