This probably the best video I've seen about studying Japanese in a long time. Been self studying for over and the hardest thing to accomplish is still speaking it confidently, even when i spent 2 weeks in Japan. I'm going to think it and speak it out loud a lot more. thank you!

Why are you attempting to speak a language you don't know? you should listen for atleast 10000 hours before speaking.

@Eric I think Komi is just joking around, 10000 hours sounds like a beyond exaggerated number when its known to take around 1000 hours to speak achieve semi-fluency and 10000 hours is about three years assuming you spent an absurd 10 hours a day on it.

The problem I find is setting up the language “glue” that without, you can’t speak and make sense. A video over some basic Japanese set phrases that are verbs, modify verbs or clauses like とき(when) 「子供のとき」; or 「ようになる」to reach the point to” , だんだん、日を追うごとに, 色々、全部etc. Things that are very common use daily in Japan to help see how Japanese are suing words. I wanted to say,” I need to learn more words before I can speak in Japanese”, but couldn’t figure out how to say it even though I thought I had all the nouns and the verb, but the “glue” and grammar(particles and order) were missing. 😢 I converted it with an app I have (HelloTalk)... 日本語で話せるようになるには、もっと単語を知る必要があります。Only word I didn’t know was ようになる 🤦♂️ but it’s needed to make the rest work.
@brookestarr90424 жыл бұрын
is hello talk good with helping you learn the language?
@shojogrl4 жыл бұрын
Yes 100% agree!!! One of my biggest frustrations with learning Japanese.
@jeffsfolio3 жыл бұрын
@@brookestarr9042 yes. There are native speakers who want to learn your language for language exchange on HelloTalk. You can type, record speech or set up live conversations to practice. You can post about your day like Facebook and ask for corrections or just talk in general. Italki is similar but the platform is heavily weighted towards paying tutors. Great for intermediate or advanced users who want to take their skills to the next level.
@Endershock16783 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I feel the easiest part for me is putting together the grammar and grammatical "glue". Maybe its because I know languages where everything requires me to understand, and even without a few words, I can put together, but the worst is when I don't know the main subject or verb, because then I can't even narrow down the grammar. Especially if that word I'm missing is an Onomatopoeia and looking it up might not work.

Tere has such a wonderful idea to learn Japanese. And she is right about that the only way to become fluent in a language, is to "think" in that language. But it's definitely difficult to change the mindset from being a translator to a speaker. That is why, the idea of watching Japanese shows is so great, because you can follow the words, and remember the structure. In another Japanese-teaching page, I commented the same thing to one of the people in the chat. You can learn a lot by watching Japanese shows, because they have a lot of subtitles in them, so you can not only listen to the words, but you can also follow what is written, and read. And you can find many right here on KZbin. By the way, VS Arashi is one of my favorite Japanese shows (and I'm not at an advanced level).

Honestly a gem to find on the internet such real raw talk straight from her on past and struggles. Thank you for your guidance hopefully I'll make it to fluency.
I have a feeling this will be the biggest stepping stone for my Japanese learning! I never thought about thinking in Japanese! I thought, if I talked and talked, it would be enough...but the thinking part....that's GOLD! Thankyou!

Appreciation is the best prize! Great advice. I love learning Japanese, especially because I thought I'd never be able to understand or learn a foreign language. The grammatical rules of my native English confuse me enough but learning the Japanese is helping with both. Watching your videos absolutely helps! I just discovered Arashi because the restrictions their production company had were lifted. I'm sure they've gotten a huge boost with by now being on Twitter, KZbin and Instagram. I've also been watching a lot of the shows they host and even if I can't understand most of it I'm still enjoying watching.

Just realized that having English subtitles has held me back (maybe they distract me?)! I ignored the subtitles and I understood the conversation pretty naturally :D It's not the first time it has happened either. Every time I've listened to Japanese without subs I get surprised at how much I can understand. It's a pretty cool feeling! Doesn't work for music though, because like subs, the music distracts me and I can't "understand" the language.

Very interesting video 、I am living in Japan and when I really had contact with the real Japanese I felt like her jeje it doesn't matter if you study 2 years in your country cause when you try to put yu your Japanese in real and daily Japanese conversation it's like OK I don't know Japanese at all, for everyone who is studying Japanese please try to find Japanese friends hnag out with them and speak also study more and watch Japanese tv series read the news etc etc cause. Actually the Japanese wich you learn from this academic school aren't enough of course probably you can speak but like a gramar book so study hard and keep going just look for other options in oder to improve your language learning in Japanese

I've studied Japanese for about two years now, I've even lived in Japan for a year as an exchange student with my boyfriend who is Japanese and I visited a Japanese University. You'd think I should be pretty fluent by now but somehow it just doesn't click. I'm also really shy and insecure in general, which doesn't help. It feels like I'm letting down my boyfriend and his family which honestly feels pretty shitty.

I can already understand around 80-90% of the words and grammar, but I still need subtitles, because I'm not able to put what I've heard in a context yet. Anyway, this video makes it seem like talking in JP is the easiest thing ever, but when I actually make an effort to speak, it's so much harder. Anyway, thank you. I find this video very motivating. ^^
