Secret paradise in Indonesia

The Banda Islands are an amazing place to freedive, scuba dive and learn about the history of nutmeg and the spice trade.
We stayed at The Nutmeg Tree (www.divebanda....). Reza, the owner, was very responsive and organized everything for us: from airport pickup in Ambon to the ferry to the islands. Due to the pandemic, there weren’t too many tourists and the fast ferries weren’t running, so we had to take a slow 14 hour ferry. We nevertheless got our own private “first class” cabin without even saying anything. Much appreciated during those early & confusing days of the pandemic.
The Lodge staff were very accommodating, as were the dive instructors. We were able to freely design our schedule to get a (safe) mix of scuba diving and freediving. I also highly recommend taking the time out of the water to visit the nutmeg plantations and hike up the volcano Gunung Api (warning: not an easy hike).
Note: This was shot in March 2020. We had to cut our trip short due to the pandemic, but still managed to have an amazing week!
