Greetings from Port Mourant, Guyana. We make something similar to this boyo here. It's called conki : made with pumpkin, black pepper to taste and salt and sugar to taste. It's wrapped in banana leaves and tied with dried straps made from banana leaves. It's immersed into a pot of boiling water and boil until cooked. It's a traditional African dish known as conki. Best of luck Matthew and Ras Mokko. I am always looking at your videos. Nuff respect from Guyana.

Yoo, we got the same exact dish in the country both my parents are from, called Surinam. It's located on top of Brazil, between the two Guyana's. They call it bojo there lol. I'm amazed by the fact that they're not the only country with that dish, but it's not really surprising actually, since the people, and especially the creole, are (obviously) culturally more connected with the Caribbean than the South-American.

@Lava_splash5 жыл бұрын
The only words I knew were blue draws and dunkunnu, but after doing a thorough research, I found out the word boyo (bollo) can be traced back to the Spanish heritage on the island. A bollo is a type of bun, popular in Latin American countries, made from corn, yuca (cassava), potato etc. Variations are eaten in Colombia, Panamanian and the Cuban cuisine. Corn and Yuca bollos are an indigenous food of the Caribbean coast of Colombia where they are boiled in leaves. I was like woow when I found this, coz it's quite interesting. It seems only people from St. Thomas have preserved this name.
