Do you have any tips on making a seamless-looking solder joint when using twisted or decorative wire/bezels? I'd be worried that a break in the pattern would make the join visible from space! Yours look fantastic though.

Thanks for noticing Vikette1000 that I took the time to really blend the seam on my twisted wire loop. The way I did it was to line up the twist of the wire above and below on the mandrel before I cut the wire. If there's any extra solder on the seam, use the opportunity to blend the seam with your file. I hope that this helps. Good luck with your twisted wire projects. Thanks for your support! : )

Thanks! I tried one a couple and they didn't look half-bad (after some swearing). I'll never be as twisted as you though. ;)

I have a question. If I torch silver to anneal it then throw it in cold water, will the cold water reharden the silver? Some guy just told me it will but I've always been told the opposite...
@OnlineJewelryAcademy6 жыл бұрын
Hi Heather, That guy doesn't know what he's talking about. And he has probably watched too many episodes of a certain blade forging show. Nonferrous metals actually become more malleable after being heated to an annealing temperature and then quenched in water. The reason why is because the heating process helps to realign the atomic structure of the metal while the fast cooling prevents large internal crystal structures from growing. The more small internal crystal structures inside of a piece of nonferrous metal, the more opportunity the structure has to bend or move. There is a ton of better written explanations on the web. Bookmark one one your cell phone so you can show it that guy the next time you see him. Thanks for your support! : )

How do you properly measure the length of a toggle clasp bracelet when it's laying stretched out flat on a surface? I'm assuming it would be inaccurate to measure from end to end, the only answer I have found says measure end to end then subtract 1/8", but that seems very vague. I was assuming you might measure from bar end to center of circle? Please help :)
@OnlineJewelryAcademy9 ай бұрын
The easiest way to get the toggle to the right length is to purposefully make it longer than necessary. You can then slide it from side to side of the loop and mark lines outside of the ring. 😀

@@OnlineJewelryAcademy Thank you so much for the response! I think possibly my question wasn't worded quite right. I'm trying to measure the overall length of the bracelet. I'm having a hard time knowing where to "end" measuring...is it 6" long or 6.25" or 6.5" depending on where on the "circle" end I should stop measuring? Before the circle, in the middle of the circle or at the absolute end? Does that make sense? :)

@@courtenaykeller3525 Toggle clasps move around a little. I recommend using the middle of the loop as an end point. When you customize a linked bracelet, aim for a fit where the bracelet rests below the wrist and on the “flair” of the hand. I hope my wording is clear. 😀

Hi, I've a bracket with this clasp and it keeps coming undone 😫😫 luckily I've noticed it on a chair or floor, but now very nervous and need a solution - can anyone help? 🙏🏼
@OnlineJewelryAcademy Жыл бұрын
The best solution would be to replace the clasp with a lobster or spring ring clasp. 😀

how do you twist the wire so uniformly? mine comes out with less of a twist in the middle and more on the edges...
@OnlineJewelryAcademy6 жыл бұрын
The OJA has videos on how to twist wire. The secret is to pull on the wire as you turn it. That way the twist appears even along the length of the wire. Thanks for your support! : )

I can’t see the problem. But, I’m certain that the solution is in the video. My best guess is that your toggle is too short. 😉

@@OnlineJewelryAcademy y Thank you for responding to my question. An yes the toogle is to small. Is there anyway I can fix it?
@OnlineJewelryAcademy2 жыл бұрын
@@danamelton7332 Maybe!? (Like I said, I can’t see it.) If you can safely solder on the toggle, you could add length to both ends. Use it as a design opportunity. Perhaps you could extend the toggle with bezel cups and set stones on the ends. Have fun.
@danamelton73322 жыл бұрын
It's a very tiny small loop an toogle but with your suggestions hopefully I can figure something out. Tha k you very much🙂
