@OnlineJewelryAcademy26 күн бұрын
@@lp9074 Texture on a finished piece is generally applied manually. This is because castings usually require a great deal of finishing that can diminish a texture developed in the wax. Direct casting methods can leave a pleasant “organic” texture on castings. 😀

Is this process similar to how factories achieve frosty white silver chains? I recently cloth polished a new chain in hopes to enhance the reflective look on the diamond cuts, but the white frosted finish changed to a mirror-like silver finish. Could this heating / pickling method bring back the white look?

This process will give silver a white surface. But it only lasts a short time. Polishing and even normal wear will change it to a silver color. 😀

No lubricant? No vice? Are those carbide steel? I have had zero luck with drilling so far.
@OnlineJewelryAcademy2 ай бұрын
You can use bees wax or any type of lubricant that you use on your saw blades to lubricate your drill bits. If you use the technique demonstrated in this video, of drilling a "pilot hole" first, you may not need to secure the objet that you're drilling in a vice. The drill bits used in the video are high speed bits from a jewelry supply company. You'll get better at drilling with practice. Good luck! 🍀 😀

Hello John, Can you tell me how Caustic vinegar and salt pickle is? I have stage 4 COPD and was told I have lung cancer on Monday. I felt some lung issues while using it today. Did I get it too hot? Also I'm trying to cap a bear claw and having a hard time with the cap. The solder wont flow to the joint (1 inch long) and the piece melts. Am I heating too fast? Would it help to solder the inside so I can get the heat under the piece? Thanks for your videos. Great help for sure.
@OnlineJewelryAcademy3 ай бұрын
You essentially answered your own questions. If the pickle is irritating your lungs, don’t heat it and only use it in a well ventilated area. If your piece is melting while you’re soldering, you’re probably using too much heat. Clean the piece thoroughly and try again with less heat. Soldering can be very tricky as you know. Not oxidizing the solder in heat is a good idea. Sorry to hear that you’re dealing with a major health issue.

The piece melted where it was held by the clip. Dumb question probably John. Sorry. I just seem to be having some trouble with this cone. Is a 1 inch joint too long? @@kevinkline6835 Yes, the birds nest is made from baling wire. Without seeing the setup, I’m not sure where the problem lies. Steel holding devices generally draw heat away from the object. Be sure to keep your flame moving. 😉

2 questions, I am a glass painter I have high-fire enamels for glass (Reusche), do they work for this type of copper enameling? I'm unable to find Penny Bright, what is the next alternative, and could it be Wright's Copper, Brass Cream?
@OnlineJewelryAcademy3 ай бұрын
I’ve never used Reusche enamels. My guess is that they are not formulated to bond with metal. But I could be wrong. You could contact the manufacturer for advice. Or, you could do some experimenting. Penny Bright is slightly abrasive unlike Wright’s Copper, Brass Cream. So you might look for a more aggressive cleaner. 😀
