A nice overview of the series! I would have like to have seen my name in the descriptions "credits" as "inker" but, I get it... inkers are left out a lot. Secret Wars was a deadline nightmare, so being able to do all the pages on all issues was not possible. But I did the majority of inks on all 12 issues. :-)

Minus Jean, Hank and Bobby (I think he could have handled Warren), He took out Xavier and Scot first (...but why not Ororo?), then trounced everyone else. Storm should have been a problem, and Rogue COULD have been a problem if her precog powers ever kicked in, but she was too brash back then. However, the rest of the team wasn’t more than he’d faced, before. Wolverine IS a joke to him, unless Logan catches him waaaaaaaaaay distracted. Spider-Man is probably one of the biggest fouls for night crawler. Colossus isn’t more than Titania. Oh...oh... and Kitty wasn’t there. If she was fast enough. She could be a problem for a LOT more people, but she isn’t. Storm, blitzed, is a good idea too. Fighting her is like fighting the Torch - they’re nerfed by having people in the room they care about. Hm.

Two very underrated awesome moments in this series: 1. Spider-Man taking Titania down easily, even before he gets his black suit. Shows how much of a formidable fighter he is. 2. Cap going back to free the super villains, only to find Wolverine and Magneto are already there doing the same. Some great character moments, even if some of the dialogue may be a bit dated. I miss some of the magic older comics had.

The were a lot of surprisingly good moments there. One of my favorites was Molecule Man's arc -- specifically the scene when he realized his true power (turning the fly into an ice cube), and how he got with Volcana and settled down (though sadly, I just now double-checked to be sure that I'd remembered correctly, and read that things didn't quite work out between them in the end).

There actually is a detailed explanation in the comics (and missing from this review)! When Galactus first approached the Beyonder at the start of the story, in space, Dr. Doom flew behind him in his wake. When the Beyonder slapped Galactus down, Doom was there and analyzed the Beyonder's power with his armor's sensors. He kept this information until after he stole Galactus' power, and used it to craft an absorption device in his armor to use on the Beyonder to steal his power, the caveat being he had to be very close, like within arm's reach, to use it. This is why he attacks the Beyonder head-on, because he's just trying to get close. The Beyonder utterly wrecks him, but begins dissecting Doom out of curiosity. Doom, even while his body is being broken apart, is able to reach the device still hidden in his breastplate and activate it, stealing the Beyonder's power and winning the Secret Wars!
@Jezee2132 жыл бұрын

When I first bought a stack of beat up comics , 3 issues of Secret Wars was in it. Most would say I got ripped off for paying $40 for 35 comic books in poor condition, but that stack is what inspired me to collect up to 5,000 comics over the course of ten years It also sparked my fascination with Secret Wars and eventually I found the entire set and finished the storyline. This video was a great chance to relive that time period. While others complain about the Toyline, my first intro was through the comics so I didnt realize the toy collection until a few commercials on tv. Anyway thanks for this amazing video.

I read comics, like a lot. This is confusing. I have a hard time seeing how they can do this “good vs evil” thing in the context of the Multiverse Saga and them fighting the extinction of reality. Maybe Beyonder Loki is exhausted from holding the multiverse together and is ready to just let the multiverse die and be reborn, unless the collaboration of these universes can show they deserve to exist. IDK just spitballing but so much of this story is contingent on good versus bad, so it’s hard to see how they can translate this to universes fighting, or AvX or whatever else they are planning on.

Colossus was 19 and kitty was 13 at the time. Which is disgusting. John Byrne had this gross habit of matching 12 year olds with adult men. He did it in his run of FF too. Ret-con’ed Sue Storm to have fallen in love with Read when he was 19 and she was 12. Marvel did a good job of quietly aging Kitty up to adult much latter, but in the beginning it was fucking retched.

@@ZeroCoolIsGod As opposed to some cultures nowadays doing the same, only in an official way? I find that more disgusting than someone pointing social issues in such a subtle way that most people aren't even aware of it...just my two cents.
@ZeroCoolIsGod4 жыл бұрын
@Andrei Burtila I am not entirely sure what you’re talking about. So, because some people somewhere on the planet approve of an adult entering a romantic relationship with a child, I shouldn’t point out how disgusting it is when it happens in a comic book? Look, it’s disgusting no matter where it happens. But seeing as this is a video about the X-men, it makes sense to bring up Kitty and Colossus. It would be weird to steer the conversation off to a tangent about... what culture? What culture specifically did you want to talk about? Why did you leave it out of your lame “but what about XX” argument?
@andreiburtila23744 жыл бұрын
@@ZeroCoolIsGod You may find it lame, how about you get out of your shell and think a bit. It seems disgusting, sure, totally agreed, with you so far. But it presents reality. Take a look at what happens to women in Hindu or somali marriages, or before, or after. You seem to miss the point. The author may look despicable or an a** but he's only showing a side of reality that nobody looks into. So before you qualify my comment as lame and stuff, you might want to understand that most comics present reality in an accessible way. The author himself might not like it, how about that? What if the writer, like Orwell for example, presents reality in a way that triggers feelings in you and tries to make you want to know where the whole situation comes from? I'm not looking for a debate. All I would like you to see is just a bit beyond the coloured facet and into the real world. Which is something that comics have been doing since the beginning of WW2. We're talking about Marvel, they usually have a bit of a lesson about society and life in general no matter how bad the story might be written. It's about reality, choices, situations just in a different way. Just as music, for example, does.

@footballart.studio4 жыл бұрын
Yes but he didn't say he was Rhodes to anyone in the whole story, because the ones that knew were him and Stark only, and he did'nt want the others to think of him as a novice among them. EDIT: Reed knew. In issue 9, Rhodes, who wasn't so familiar with the armor, asked for Reed's help and was forced by him to reveal that he was in fact not Tony Stark.

I remember reading this when I was around 10 or 12 and back then I had to collect all the issues so I could follow the story, unfortunately I lost the comics during the next years and I felt sad about it. Not so long ago I went to a comic store and asked if they had the full novel and they did. Best purchase I've done, it brought me to my younger years when I was a kid getting amazed and that feeling of awe of reading about super heroes and their stories. Thank you so much for this video, you have made my inner child smile with excitement.

This was a gateway for a lot of kids. I loved it. In the UK it was spread over I think 32 issues. It would be a bit of Secret Wars, a backup strip (Alpha Flight, Iceman, Iron Man 2020, Zoids spring to mind), and there was a running gag with a Secret Artist leaving doing humorous pictures of characters in Secret Wars in the Marvel Offices (check them out - they were really good!) and lots of 'free gifts' ubiquitous to UK comics at the time: stickers, posters on which to stick the stickers, sticker albums, transfers, pull out posters, etc. One little nitpick: not sure why you kept calling Klaw 'Ulysses Klaw' - he was never called that in the comic (or in general at the time) - he was just called 'Klaw'. It would be like constantly calling Dr Doom 'Victor Von Doom'.
@eric817573 ай бұрын
1:12:54 I love that Klaw shows up and tries to be all meta by going "You narrate everything you do. Are you being recorded or something?" And then Doom just goes "Yeah, bro. I'm Doom. Everything I do is worthy of history."

17:33 is misinterpreted The reason Reed doesn't have Ben change back to human, is Reed was able to look into Ben's mind thanks to Franklin's power, and it was Ben who had a deep desire to remain as the Thing. Because Ben feared Alicia only loved the Thing, and didn't love the man inside. Like if you literally read the panels you displayed it says that

Bruh if Spider-Man wanted to he could murder every one of his villians. He holds back immensely. An example is when Doc Ock stole Spider-Man's body, he didn't know how strong Spidey was so when he fought Scorpion he knocked his jaw clean off. Even Otto was surprised at how easily Spider-Man could've killed him in multiple battles if he didn't pull his punches

All my friends where into comics growing up so I decided to also learn about the marvel universe and Secret Wars II was just starting. So I purchased only comics with the Secret Wars corner tab on the cover. That allowed me to get one comic of almost every series. So I felt like I had to also collect the original Secret Wars and is still probably my favorite 12 comics. That is basically my entire small collection. This video was such a jem for me, thank you.

How the hell did Doom steal the Beyonder power? Because the Beyonder wanted to see what he would do, since he was curious about human desire? It's the only reason I can think of, since it was impossible he could defeat him.
