I own a 1960 Chinese Mosin-Nagant T-53. It was a rifle used my a North Vietnamese soldier that was taken after a ground battle by a GI, who brought it back stateside upon returning home. It has a bullet hole thru the stock and a nick on the barrel. The nick didn't adversely affect the hard chrome cylinder bore, which is in pretty darn good condition.

Howdy Mark, that's really neat! I hope you consider uploading it to our website, the community would love to see it! www.mosinmuseum.com

Great Vid. Another tell tale sign is that the bolt "knob" shouldn't look like it was screwed on.....it should look like a solid piece and it's easy to tell when you look. Thanks again!

Owners do take the time to build a PU sniper rifle for their own experience and satisfaction with no intent to defraud someone. The price of an original is prohibitively expensive for most.

Very good information. It is always appreciated Big Sam! I'm excited to see a Yugo rifle in this video. I absolutely love Yugo stuff.

Does the fake bolt make the rifle any “worse”? Not from a value standpoint but rather from a shooter’s standpoint.

Thanks sam! Honestly I'm not sure if I mind if it's original. But if It was being sold as orignal id love to make sure it is. I might take a bubba mosin and build a put style sniper out of it. I'd like you opinion if thats bubba

Back in the good ol days that cut you see you could send your stock 91 30 bolt to ebay and get it screwed in and pinned like you see for around 50-75$ and also look for the silver solder bolts

Have one of those. Works great

Ok, for starters, if the serial number is missing or does not match between the rifle and the bolt, the rifle is not a 100% authentic PU as it was imported. The Soviets would have properly serialized a replacement bolt during refurbishment. Electropenciled bolts are generally considered authentic, provided all else is proper. However, it's just as likely that they would have simply returned the rifle to standard 91/30 configuration, making it an ex-PU sniper. I'd be very concerned about any rifle that doesn't have a properly serialized bolt due to headspace and accuracy concerns. That circle and those threads are exactly what they look like. Several kits and services were marketed to turn your bolt body into a sniper bolt body several years ago. Secondly, that "poke" you refer to is common on Izhevsk rifles. It's rare to see them with a straight and uniform font. Tula rifles had a much nicer font, and since PU rifles were made from 1942 to 1947 (maybe 48?) at the Izhevsk arsenal, (the Tula arsenal was captured by the Nazis in late 1941 and liberated in late 1943), any Tula either is not an authentic PU sniper or was built at Izhevsk on barreled actions made at Tula. The font of the sniper-oriented serial stampings is inconsistent with the Tula font. Obviously, any Izhevsk from before 1942 is not an authentic PU sniper. www.gunboards.com/threads/tula-mosins.280273/ Finally, I went back to your other video about PU snipers and your mention of Alexander Yushenko. I'd love to see what information he's unearthed.

What is the reason the sniper have more precision than the ordinary 91/30. Is it the bolt ? The barrel ? The chamber ?
@BigSamMosinMuseum3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ola, the main thing is the barrel. Most 91/30 sniper barrels were produced separately from standard barrels and had very specific tolerances

Would some come with straight bolts? Like from 1943?

I'm getting a good deal on a fake reproduction pu sniper. 550 out the door I don't think it's a Ukrainian referb but whoever made up the rifle did a really good job with the fitt8ng of the scope and everything and hell let's be real even numbers matching 91/30s are hitting 400 bucks all day long now so 550 isn't hateful for a good fun rifle I won't feel bad shooting
