I'm glad you made this video. I just recently picked up a 1944 Izhevsk ex PU sniper rifle for cheap. It was listed as a basic M91/30 and no one was bidding on it. The photos weren't great, but I could see the lined out scope serial number and see a barely visible plugged scope mount hole inside the receiver. It's in excellent shape with a bright bore.

I would love to see a full video on all signs that a rifle might be an ex-sniper. Some small town gun shops and mosy pawn shops still just throw all Mosins into the same category as a junky Russian rifle so they end up valued significantly less than what they should be.

My free exsniper was sporterized before I got it. The bore is way offcenter at the muzzle but it shoots great. Has a .315 groove diameter and an ATI stock that spells it MOISIN. I got a video on it

I have come across several ex snipers on the used rack at Cabelas\bass Pro shops. They were priced no differently then a standard MN, so always five that receiver wall a check.

I was at a machine gun day for Father’s Day. Got to shoot a saw, mp40, m1a1, then as a bonus a .50, lee enfield, and a Mosin m44. And of them all, I enjoyed the mosin the most. (mp40 was pretty epic) so I went to the next gun show and found me a model 44. There was a nice 91-30 also, but I value my life and knew my wife would not been happy if I got both. But I am keeping my eye open for one of these. For what they are, they are great guns. I enjoy shooting it more than my 1000+ colt m4.

Just picked up a 1944 Izhevsk ex-sniper in 2024 for 399. It has its issues though lol: someone stripped the stock and left it bare and blotchy colored, its been counterbored and isnt a shiny bore, and it has some visible pitting above the woodline. But she's still matching numbered and definitely getting converted back to sniper configuration. One thing he doesmt mention is that these have the improved trigger (mine has no grittiness and breaks decently) and idk about all of them, but my bolt is smooth to operate. Definitely a much more enjoyable rifle than the standard 91/30 refurb.

Leaving mine an ex sniper. Only thing I did was strip off the runny red shellac and put linseed oil on the wood. It’s a nice honey blond color now.

No one ever talks about the stock on the mount side. Mine is filled in. The receiver is flat but I’m not sure if the holes are drilled or filled. It’s a transfer so I will see in a few weeks.

Great video. How accurate is the converted sniper rifle?

I’ve known “about” Mosins for years. I didn’t become interested in them as an “owner” until I started reading and watching videos about their “history”. Now I go to gun shows in hopes of finding a Mosin with true historical value 😎😎

Mine is currently at the shop right now getting re-drilled and original base/mount and PU scope installed. I also replaced the trigger with a Timney trigger, Archangel stock and threaded barrel for my Omega 300 suppressor. This gun is very accurate and a nice kick to it :)

They didn’t have suitable solvent to clean the copper fouling. This eventually affected accuracy. Cleaned the copper fouling out of my ex with hoppes 9. Bore is like new It’s dead accurate
