SECRETARIAT - 1973 Kentucky Derby - Part 3 (CBS)

A lot of racing fan's seem to only remember Secretariat's romp in the 73' Belmont Stakes. But this horse set new stakes records in the 73' Kentucky Derby and Preakness as well. Secretariat was the first horse to ever finish the 1-1/4 of the Kentucky Derby in under 2 minutes. He ran the final 1/4 mile of this race in 23 seconds. Secretariat ran each of the five 1/4 miles of the Kentucky faster than the one he had just previously run. That truly is incredible, and unheard of!!

I have never seen this and all the videos I watched this is absolutely the best part that I have seen the Kentucky derby’s in this video, which, of course shows the one and only secretariet

@GBeret83 The most recent horse to run each quarter of a 10 furlong race faster than the last was in 2009 when Zenyatta did it in the Breeder's Cup Classic, finishing in 2:00.62 (2:00 3/5). She almost did it again in the 2010 Classic, until she had to stop and go around Quality Road at the quarter pole, which cost her more than 3 lengths and most probably the race as she only lost by six inches.

I won't complain about the coverage provided by the networks of the major races anymore (although it leaves a lot to be desired) after seeing this. CBS couldn't even be bothered to post the pre-race odds.
