As a Cleveland sports fan, I cried in my room when the Cavs won. Jumping up and down . My neighbor was also super happy. Still proud to see the city of Cleveland get a title. It was similar to seeing my Saints finally get a Super Bowl after so much of losing. Someone asked Red about Walter Berry and Red minced no words " ahh he's ok but Brad Daughtary is better than him and is going No.1 in this upcoming draft". I said to myself how dare he diss Big Walt. Walt slid all the way down to I think 14 to the trail blazers who immediately traded him to the Nets. He went the Spurs, Rockets then poof he was out the league.

He DID have Kyrie, i don't see how they could POSSIBLY have won, w/out him...but being down 1-3 to a team THAT good, just unbelievable. I think Lebron on his own, wouldve still been great, but this was WAYYY different than the miami years. This was CLEVELAND. People GENUINELY didn't think they'd win a championship, @ ANYTHING, me included...its just hard to picture a series, BETTER than this one. Good job on these videos keep up the good 👍 work

(Disclaimer: I am not from Cleveland, nor have I ever been there. But as a longtime fan of the Blues and Chiefs, I know what it's like to experience the euphoria that comes with snapping a long championship drought.) Eight years on, this Finals win by the Cavs remains the only time in the last 60 years the city of Cleveland has won the championship of any major professional sports league, since the Browns last brought home a title in 1964, so long ago that it predates Super Bowls. And although the Guardians, as they're now called, have made some noise in the American League recently, it looks to stay that way for at least a little while longer, with the Browns and Cavs both far away from the upper echelons of their respective leagues. Not that the city didn't have its chances to celebrate. Oh, how the chances came and went, with each successive heartbreak piercing wider holes through Northeast Ohioans' spirits. At first it was a series of NFL championship games in 1965, 1968, and 1969, lost to the Packers dynasty of the '60s and then the Super Bowl runner-up Colts and Vikings. Nary a single one of those games, nor the Browns' playoff loss to the Cowboys in 1966, was close. It took nearly 20 years until the Browns'-and Cleveland's-next run of success, whereupon they were eliminated in the AFC championship game three times in 4 years, all by the Broncos, and all in humiliating fashion. They'd never have it that good again, although the team that moved to Baltimore in 1996 ended up winning 2 Super Bowls and maintaining contender status for most of their time there. The next time the city would get its shot to rally around a team chasing success was in the 1990s, when the team then known as the Indians finally broke through after a dismal stretch of nearly 3 decades with only one season topping 85 wins, finishing second in their division after the 1994 season was cut short and then going on to win it 6 out of the next 7 years. They managed AL pennants in 1995 and 1997 but fell short in the World Series to the Braves and Marlins. The good players got older, worse, and left, and the juice ran out for a while, with but a single ALCS appearance in 2007 all they had to show until 2016. Fortunately for Cleveland, they also had a basketball team that sometimes played at a level approaching competitive, and though they had made the conference finals in 1976 and 1992, those appearances represented only small pockets of success in a history marred with failure. Then they were bad enough and lucky enough to land LeBron James, who guided the team to at least one series victory following every season from 2005-06 to 2009-10, with the high point a finals loss to the Spurs in 2007. Their juice ran out as well, and so did LeBron, although he returned for a few more successful years and _finally_ got the city of Cleveland the title they'd been yearning for. But even then, they only managed one series win across four straight finals appearances, made worse by the fact that, as with the Broncos' AFC dynasty of the '80s, the Cavs played the Warriors all four times and lost three of them. Perhaps spurred on by this unusual success, the Indians again caught fire, going all the way to game 7 of the 2016 World Series before handing the Cubs _their_ first title in 108 years, then coasting off that momentum to win the AL Central twice more in 2017 and 2018. Good thing too, because those first two were the years the Browns, led by Hue Jackson, went 1-31 across 2 seasons and used the corresponding picks to draft franchise cornerstones Myles Garrett and Baker Mayfield, who would go on to win a playoff game in 2020 under far better head coach Kevin Stefanski, the first-and so far, only-occurrence for the expansion Browns. Each of the three teams has been back to the playoffs since, and the Guardians look poised to at least win their division this season, if not contend for the AL pennant yet again, but it was the Cavs who broke through in 2016 to mark the only bright spot in the last 6 decades of Cleveland pro sports. Not that the rest of Ohio has done much better-the Reds did win the World Series in 1990, but have not done much since; the Bengals have been to three Super Bowls and lost all three; and the Blue Jackets are the worst NHL expansion franchise not named the California Golden Seals (who, coincidentally, moved to Cleveland in the late '70s before becoming the last major professional sports franchise to fold). Even if you expand the reach to soccer, FC Cincinnati has only existed for a few years and made their first conference final last year; the Columbus Crew have been the only successful Ohio team, winning three MLS cups in the last 16 years and making another finals appearance to boot. This lack of success, by and large, of Ohio sports over the last 60 years, is emblematic of the general Rust Belt decline with which it has coincided, with cities like Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Detroit, and others all suffering mightily in the wake of the steel and auto industries either shrinking or globalizing, and this downward spiral continues despite efforts to curtail it. But Ohio sports fans may take solace not only in the recent success of the Columbus Crew and Cleveland Cavaliers, but in that, through everything that has been thrown at them, from economic decline to horrible weather to awful sports, they have stayed true to their teams, themselves, and each other.

I’d be very down for a series of docs about franchises’ histories prior to their first chip. Especially those more long-suffering franchises not unlike the Cavs here. As a Pats fan I wouldn’t expect anyone to want to document the team pre-‘Evil Empire’ but there’s for sure some crazy stories prior to Belichick and Brady. Toronto and Denver in the NBA, the Eagles - I’m sure the folks at Secret Base could tell some compelling stories about all these teams, and it’s an angle they haven’t really covered except for this video here.
