If you watched it so many times then you know that knee was down before. He pitched the ball and they got to score a touchdown. The only reason why texas one is because the referees gave the game to them. There was no other way anybody could handle USC back then.

how does a 4th an ONE, with the LEAD, compare to 2nd and goal, while losing??? both dumb calls.....if the pats stop lynch twice, you tip your cap and accept the L.....instead you throw a slant to your 4th best receiver......us hawks fans will be forever haunted by that until we hoist the lombardi again....only THEN will the Demons of super bowl 49 be vanquished!.....and i dont see that happening any time soon....what could have been...that one play turned half of the team against Pete and we have never been the same.....

you guys realize you were only in that position because you had one of the luckiest plays in history go your way when the ball got tipped and should have been incomplete but somehow ended up in Kearse's lap while he was laying on the ground after taking 5 separate bounces off Kearse and butler. People are always quick to tell you about the ones that didn't go their way, but they conveniently never talk about the things that went there way that shouldn't have...

UT ran the same formation on 4th as they ran for their pass play on 3rd. The formation was an RPO (run/pass option), but Vince being 30/40 and killing those short passes all night, USC couldn't take the chance and dropped all their LBs into coverage. Pretty sure DE Frostee Rucker was supposed to contain Vince on the right side, but instead of RB Selvin Young staying in on the right side to block for his QB, this time he ran an out-and-in pass pattern. Frostee saw it late, tried to jump inside to knock Selvin off his route, and in doing so opened the WHOLE right side of the field to Vince's eventual scramble. UT fans always knock Greg Davis for his unimaginative playcalling, but I always give him the credit for the one that mattered the most.

A lot of people forget the 1st momentum-changing play of the game. After preventing Reggie Bush from making it to his own 15 on the opening kickoff, Texas held USC's offense to a three-and-out. Both of those were supposedly unthinkable. Texas had done exactly what they wanted to do to open the game. On the ensuing punt, Texas's return man advanced about five yards, then fumbled. USC took over and scored the first points of the game.

Jonathan Perrin I’m aware the review system was faulty. So are most people-now. I’d still argue that call was too obvious not to get on the field, and too important not to be properly reviewed, faulty system or otherwise. Like it or not, the existence of a review system creates a level of expectation of perfection that can’t be expected when review isn’t in use. When that fails, even if for understandable reasons, it’s sensible to point to the flaws in such a system: In this case, an obvious blown call and the lack of a review.

I was about 12 and my dad was watching football, big time football fans. When Vince scored my dad grabbed my arm and pulled me outside and started holding me and yelling in the middle of the road at night because my newborn sister was asleep. He called in sick next day and me and him celebrated all day. Ill never forget it.

If you do this game, You have to do OSU vs Miami from 2002...... And don't forget the blatant missed holding call AND catch in bounds with 2:16 left in the 4th that would have given OSU a first down with 2:16 to play and Miami with no timeouts. ( in other words, it would have all but ended the game in regulation).

I was at this game (and I'm a Texas fan). When Vince crossed the goal line, my brain just stopped. I couldn't comprehend what was happening. I just kept repeating, "Oh my god!" over and over again. (I legit thought that Quinn Ewers was about to make the best play in Longhorn history since this one during this year's 2024 Sugar Bowl, at which I was also present, but alas....)

Overrated game. First game of the year, Michigan was ranked way too high, and App State was coming off 2 straight FCS championships -- obviously the talent level is lower but they were a team that knew how to win.

The 02 championship was awesome too. I think I give the edge to the 06 game because both teams had a lot of star power. The 02 Ohio state team was very good but didnt have very many nationally known players.

That game was really good for drama at the end, but the 06 Rose Bowl was right up there, with a lot more hype and star power behind it. Both teams started 1 and 2, and ended that way. Though me being a Texas fan clearly makes me extremely biased.
