Michael Crabtree's legendary moment against Texas deserves a deep rewind

It’s November 1st, 2008. We’re in Lubbock, Texas. The number one Texas Longhorns are trying to hold off the BCS’s number-seven Texas Tech Red Raiders. Clinging to a one-point lead with eight seconds left, if UT’s defense can make one last stand their title shot is nearly guaranteed. Tech, on the other hand, has the chance to not only upset a rival but throw themselves into the national championship conversation at the same time.
Both teams stand at 8-and-0. Obviously, one team won’t stay perfect. And there’s enough on the line that what comes next is guaranteed to overshadow how we got here. Where did this Tech team come from? How did Texas become the best in the nation? How we got here makes what comes next all the more special. So, let’s rewind.

If it's a success, the coach is the greatest coach ever, he get a raise and contract extension. But if it's a failure, the coach is the worst of all time, he gets fired at end of season

This specific period in college football history was innovative, transformative, and down right wild with the proliferation of the spread, zone read, and air raid. Seemingly overnight middling programs became quasi national championship contenders….eventually the power programs would fully integrate these insights but for a few years there it wasn’t uncommon to see Texas Tech or Kansas or West Virginia among others playing like contenders.

Yup! Sherman was amazing during that final play. He wasn't looking for stats, he just wanted to prevent any potential season ending TD catch, from happening.

That's honestly the last thing I remember about him. He's has a solid career but wasn't worthy of being a Top 10 pick.

Just a note on Crabtree’s recruitment. Oklahoma was initially interested in him as a WR, and that interest was reciprocated. OU had a very good relationship with Carter High at the time, and even had Carter alums on the roster. OU backed off quite a bit because they were concerned that he wasn’t going to be able to get himself academically eligible. When you are an elite program like OU, you have options, and they had other top wideouts that they were looking at too. So based on OU pulling back, he naturally verballed to Tech as he had a connection to Lubbock. Once he got himself eligible, OU came calling late, but to Crabtree’s credit, he honored the Tech commitment. I guess he felt that since they stuck by him through it all, he would reward them for that. The reality is that Tech only stood by him because they didn’t have the options that OU had, and were willing to roll the dice and hope he could get in. Even if he had to sit a year, or whatever, Tech was fine with it. So because Crabtree had academic issues, that’s why a great talent like he was wound up in Lubbock. Otherwise, he would’ve been at OU.

Hey SB Nation, I just have a few suggestions for Rewinder. Here it is: -The Miracle on Ice (come on, it's literally one of, if not, the greatest sports moments in history) -2016 NBA Finals Game 7 (LeBron's block and Kyrie's shot) -Steph Curry's game winning 3 against the Thunder in 2015-2016 season (broke his own 3-pointer record and tied for most 3s in a game) -Patriots vs Falcons in Super 51 (it pains me as a Falcons fan) -Kobe's shot in Game 4 of the 1st round against the Phoenix Suns in 2006 (that was one crazy game and the Black Mamba) -Robert Horry's buzzer beater in Game 4 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals (Lakers vs. Sacramento Kings; Big Shot Bob) -Jose Bautista's bat flip in Game 5 against the Texas Rangers -David Ortiz grand slam in 2013 ALCS Game 2 -2016 College Basketball National Championship (Villanova vs North Carolina; crazy game) -2017 Rose Bowl (Georgia vs. Oklahoma; as a Georgia fan that was awesome) - Aaron Rodgers Hail Mary vs. Detroit in 2016 -Damian Lillard's Game 6 winner in 2014 against Houston and/or his 37 foot buzzer beater against OKC in 2019 playoffs (probably in the future) -Kawhi Leonard's Game 7 buzzer beater against the 76ers in the 2019 Eastern Conference Semifinal (only buzzer beater in a Game 7) -Rams vs Chiefs 2018 Monday Night Football (high scoring game and 2 of the best teams that year) -The Helmet Catch (David Tyree and the backstory about that play is great) -Usain Bolt breaking 100 meter world record -The Minneapolis Miracle (Diggs incredible catch and Joe Buck's call) -The Philly Special in Super Bowl 52 -Jose Altuve's walk off in Game 6 of ALCS vs. Yankees (also future) -Dwyane Wade's one legged buzzer beaters (2009 vs Bulls and 2019 vs Warriors) -Russell Westbrook's game winner vs. Denver Nuggets (broke triple double record and sealed his 2017 MVP campaign) -DeSean Jackson's game winning punt return against the Giants -Game 2 of 2011 NBA Finals (incredible comeback by Dallas and Dirk's clutch layup) Hope you take notice of this please
