Daniel Carson bones heal lol when you literally break your shin in half and have to get rods in your legs to fix them your legs won’t ever be the same. Idc if Silva gets beat he’s still one of the best to ever do it. But he’s at a point where he’s a legend already and just wants to fight. But it’s pointless he has nothing to prove that’s why him saying I wouldn’t fight after I break my legs is actually accurate. Maybe I'm too sentimental when I evaluate these things, but Silva's fall from grace cemented his greatness for me. Once his mobility and athleticism started to go and he started to lose fights, he would still show his once-in-a-generation mastery of spacing and timing once or twice a fight. Even as late as the Israel Adesanaya fight, he's still catching guys right on the button with his counter right hook that comes around the side of a too-aggressive combination to stand them straight up and remind them he's still the spider. Seeing all his athletic prowess stripped away, I can see exactly how amazing his timing and spacing always was. Seeing an old man land some of the shots he's landed confirmed for me he really was always special, as opposed to merely gifted. I still remember exactly where I was and how I felt when Weidman dropped him the first time. What a devastating moment, a god died in front of all of us.

Youfruitlover _ obviously he chose too. But idk a person alive that wouldn't have a huge internal struggle over retiring from a career that is literally your life work. You actually get to do a job you've wanted more than any other career in the world. Not only that you reach the top of success in your field. Retiring not only means you no longer get that income (not saying he'd be broke), but he also wouldn't be able to partake in the grind to get ready for a fight with his team, who are basically family. The UFC knew his heart was no longer in it & it would be best for him personally & professionally to retire. But they used his emotions to get him to sign a fight extension. Whether you, I , or anyone else thinks that's ok or that it should be illegal. Using someone's emotions to sway them into doing what you want them to do, especially when they don't fully want to is a form of manipulation. All Dana White & the UFC cared about was 💰💰

@xSKYKILLAx3 жыл бұрын
theres context to it, very similiar to most recently with a lot of people hyping up woodleys 95% takedown defense rate or whatever it was. he didn't go up against a lot of fighters with a strong takedown. once he eventually would have to fight someone like usman, we saw what happened. silva didnt go up against a lot of top tier wrestlers/grapplers in general. hendo was never a strong takedown threat, in fact hendo has the reputation of being rather easy to takedown himself despite his wrestling credentials. sonnen was the strongest offensive wrestler he fought up to weidman, but silva was injured in the first sonnen fight, so i give him a pass as to why he gave up the takedowns so easily. in the travis lutter fight, lutter actually passed silva's guard and had him full mounted. lutter is a BJJ specialist to be fair, but its another example of silva having shown weaknesses with his grappling.

One thing that could have been mentioned is the context behind Anderson Silva's loss to Israel Adesanya. While he ultimately lost the fight it was a 'passing of the torch moment' and he DID impress many people by being competitive with who turned out to be the next champion. Doesn't apply to Silva. He didn't go UFC heel after the leg break. He got tempted into staying way longer than he should have, and just didn't know when to quit. IMO he should have taken the car from Dana and said "so long, and thanks for the Bentley" when he had the chance.

@@SPACEDOUT19 No you can't, your history is your legacy. You can be at the top of the game, but when you fall down and continue to compete despite this your career downslope becomes part of your history and in turn, legacy. Today, you can't tell the story of Anderson Silva without mentioning his downfall. Whether you like it or not, Anderson Silva tarnished and tainted his legacy by continuing to compete and lose fights well past his prime and test positive for steroids not once, but twice. You reap what you sow, and that's why MMA fighters need to know when to call it quits. What GSP and Khabib did should be something every fighter strives for, not simply regard it as a nice choice.

Silva redeemed himself with his entrance into boxing at his age. His win over a former champion, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was stuff that legends are made of. Without a doubt Silva is one of greatest combat sports fighters in history. MMA-wise, nobody took MMA by storm and dominated the way Silva did in his prime. The thing about the Weidman fight is yes he did get caught, but Silva was playing a head game that typically helps him win all his fights. Just because it didn't work once, doesn't necessarily mean he was being cocky or arrogant for no reason. In fact, he still continues to showboat, even against Adesanya, because he knows how important head games are as the older fighter competing against a quicker, younger fighter. It's both a stalling tactic to catch a breath, as well as a tactic to counterpunch
