The Oklahoma City Thunder had Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden on the same team under the age of 24. They made a run to the 2012 NBA Finals before losing to LeBron James and the Miami Heat. From there, it was all downhill for OKC.

ALFredo Cuomo, sorry but you sound pathetic. As a local Oklahoman who lived in Washington during that time in service in the Army I can attest to the fact that there’s a reason Seattle was voted worst sports city ever in 2008. The SuperSonics had just left being second The worst team ever the previous year getting second in the lottery and allowing Sam Presti to draft Kevin Durant. The Washington State Cougars went 2-11 with their only wins coming against Portland State and the 0-12 Washington Huskies. The Seattle Seahawks were equally as bad going 4-12. The Thunder franchise, it’s players, staff, coaches, owners thank God Every day they are in a city who actually cares about them and sell out every game even if they’re a 3rd tier team as opposed to being stuck with a bunch of hipsters who could honestly care less. ‘My, my, my how the turn tables have....’ 🤦🏼‍♂️

2016 was the last time I was really invested in the NBA. The record-setting Warriors, LeBron and Kyrie in Cleveland, KD and Westbrook in OKC, Kawhi and Duncan Spurs, Lob City Clippers, Lillard leading the Blazers, a waning D-Wade and Bosh Miami, Harden was carrying the Rockets, almost the end of Dirk’s reign in Dallas, Kobe was still in LA at least, PG-13 was still in Indiana, Melo was still a Knick, etc… I hope we see another matchup between LeBron and the KD-less Warriors, THAT is peak NBA. I think it's also important to note that no one expected James Harden to become as good as he did. People thought, "This guy could really become a star," but no one thought scoring titles, MVP, all that. His road reminded me a lot of Tracy McGrady. McGrady was young and in Vince Carter's shadow and he not only wanted to get paid, he wanted a bigger role. He was regarded as a good player, a potential future star in the league, but he got to Orlando and turned into a much greater player than people expected.

The real villain was David Stern. He knew that Clay Bennett and Co were being purposefully fraudulent to Howard Schultz during the sale of the team, and once this info was publicly outed, Stern could have voided the sale (he's done it before, and he did it after when Chris Hansen bought the Kings), but he refused to do that. Stern finally got this revenge against Seattle, that he had wanted since losing the court case to keep Spencer Haywood from being signed by the Supersonics... Stern knows how to hold a grudge, because he is a twisted little cretin-of-a-man.

Harden most likely does not turn into the player he is if he stayed in OKC. Also, this was before Steph Curry and the Warriors ruined basketball by making it a soft jump shooting league. When Harden was traded the NBA was still a big boys league where size, physicality, and defense mattered. Not to mention Harden was their sixth man, and not a starter. Durant's trade and Westbrook's announcement of staying on Instagram at a party. Then after KD got those two rings and Serge got one, Westbrook wanted some success and joined Harden. Now we're at game 5 in the first round of the 2020 playoffs and the Rockets are looking alright. Series tied 2-2 between them and.... the Thunder! Austin Kimmell why blame Sam for the Harden trade? Sam wasn’t going to be the one paying him. That was Clay Bennett that didn’t want to pay him. Sam just tried to make the best of it and get something back.

Carmelo was a cancer to the organization, Serge Ibaka is a solid role player so he doesn’t belong on this list, Victor Olidipo was a decent player but wasn’t a star at the time, and although James Harden is an MVP today he wasn’t a superstar back when he was in Okc so in reality the only players worth mentioning in this is Paul George, Russell Westbrook, and Kevin Durant.

Money comes first in every business. Trophies and championship are simply added bonus. Basketball in itself is a sport but the organization that mandates that, the NBA, is a business. So i think you cant really blame the whole misfortune to the franchise alone. The players, themselves, choose to leave the franchise because if the players werent after for the money in the first place, none of those players would leave even if a larger deal was right at their door step.

@@mac-gustavemulondak1679 I don't hate on people who still like him. I don't dislike KD. I just thought moving to a 73-9 team not only ruined my chance to watch KD get more action the court, but also Steph who was my other favorite player. That one move made both of my favorite players ever (outside of Kobe) less fun to watch, and made the outcome of games so predictable that I lost interest in the entire league. I just didn't understand why a player of KD's caliber needed to do that when he had a 3-1 lead on them with a far inferior squad. Anyway, much respect to KD... dude is top 15 at this point (I'd be saying that even if he had no rings in OKC) and I can't wait for him to come back with Brooklyn.

You're really going to tell me that a prime Durant, Westbrook, and Harden still teamed together is getting beat by the Curry, Thompson, and Green we've seen over these years? Yeah right. You think OKC would've blown that 3-1 West Finals lead in 2016 had Harden still been on that squad? Really think about that.

I think undervaluing James Harden is what sunk them from the beginning. I'm a huge Pac 12 fan so I always thought James Harden was great but with Jeff Green and Westbrook he could hardly get any shots. He filled the Jeff Green role when Jeff Green was traded but he was never allowed to be a superstar until he played on Houston.
