Is it worth buying the 2022 Secretlab Titan Evo gaming chair?
I needed a second gaming chair in the household so I got the new Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 series softweave chair. In this video, I review & compare the new generation 2022 Titan Evo to its predecessor the Titan which I’ve had 1.5 years with around 5000 hours of use!

Written Review:
Hey all, so I’ve been using the new Secretlab Titan Evo for about a month or so before posting this video review so this review is based on a good level of usage. I expect I will follow up with a second video sometime between 6 and 12 months of full time use.
I’ve bought this new model as I already own the Secretlab Titan 2020 gaming chair (and I'm keeping both!). If you haven’t seen the reviews on my channel on this chair I believe most of its content is still completely relevant here also!
Overall, I think the 2022 Secretlab Titan Evo gaming chair is certainly worth an investment! Generally speaking it seems to take the best of the Titan and add nice quality of life improvements across the board, many of which are not mentioned in the spec sheet. While not everything is perfect, I think Secretlab are using this model to launch a new magnetic eco-system which I believe will see new accessories & personalisation features become available to this chair and future models, and potentially I'm guessing maybe even to older models!
The magnetic head rest is probably the feature I want to love the most, but I believe it's the feature in most need of improvement. The problem is simple, the magnetic strength is just not strong enough. While the pillow stays on, I would say you will likely need to adjust it daily.
What I didn't say in the video was there are a few subtle iterative improvements to some features on the chair, and one in particular I wanted to mention was the armrest internal mechanics for its height adjustment. In the Titan Evo, the height adjustment is significantly quieter and appears to have more grip when choosing a new position. It’s a small improvement only those who have used the generation will notice.
Overall if you’re in the market for a gaming chair, I’ve had a pretty good experience with the Titan Evo so far and I’m expecting it will last even longer than my older Titan which at nearly 5000 hours of use still looks brand new! So I believe if you’re in the market for a gaming (or car-style chair) the Secretlab Titan Evo should be at the top of your list.
Finally, Secretlab is known for iterating their product during its product lifecycle so I wanted to confirm that this chair was purchased shortly after release and I would expect minor improvements & tweaks will come. So there's a chance some of improvements may be made to your chair!
After posting earlier reviews of the Secretlab Titan I was invited to join the Secretlab Affiliate program. As I’m sure you can see here I really have found these chairs impressive. By clicking the links above I may earn a small commission for purchases made from Secretlab. While this is the case, I can only emphasise to you that this video is completely honest. This video took about 3-4 weeks to produce working nights and weekends to get it done, so it would be a great way to show your appreciation.
Hope this content helps you!

Nice review and comparison. I have the 2020 Titan in the same color fabric. I've had it for one year and absolutely love it. The only issue I had was one of the armrest covers had a gouge in it right next to the the swivel button. It drove me nuts. I emailed support and sent them a picture and had a new one in three days.

I might be a bit late but I think the reason the older one felt softer is that you had used it for a while and chairs usually get softer after some time, or it could actually just be softer.
@_Noirscape
@_Noirscape 2 жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking too. To use his jean comparison, newer jeans feel a lot more rough because you haven't worn them in yet. At least in my experience.
@BenCad
@BenCad 2 жыл бұрын
hey Buccimain and Noirscape, sorry for the late reply here. But yes the older chair is definitely softer/smoother, but that feel of the material is on any part of the chair. Not just where my body touches, so I am very confident there is a difference in manufacturing and material. To reiterate what I say in the video, the 2020 TITAN has a softer/smoother feel, compared to the 2022 TITAN Evo which has a more sturdy and strong feel which im betting will last longer. Honestly though its not something you need to worry about or would notice unless you're comparing both side by side like I am here :) Cheers!

Thank you. I just needed a new chair for my dreamachine setup. I purchased a grey Omgega in june 2018, and it is in stellar condition! I was worried when i logged on and saw 'my size' wasnt in stock. But i see that the titan 2022 evo comes in all sizes so i was super happy to order my chair. just now:]. I will enjoy both chairs for 6+ years to come. Really looking forward to the fabric, and lumbar support as i was born missing arm and leg causing pretty intense scoliosis. The omega changed the wear down after long workdays on my back and joints and i know the titan evo will continue todo so! Thanks for blustering confirming my purchase!

Superb review, really enjoyed watching this. Interesting that your 2020 Titan has magnetic bolt covers. I have the Blue Charcoal 2020 Titan and I don’t have magnetic ones, they have to be screwed onto the chair. I did get my chair shortly after they were released though, so it’s obvious they’ve made small upgrades as time went on.
@BenCad

This. Yeah you're not the first to leave a similar comment on the bolt covers. So it also wouldn't surprise me if some improvements are made to the Titan Evo as it goes through its product lifecycle - which is a good thing really.

How fun! I have the Titan 2020 blue softweave and like it a lot!!. The only thing that gets me cranky about the chair is that it still after two years of use, it is a dust magnet and I have to vacuum it frequently. It still looks like I just bought it. My head cushion still conforms perfectly and the lumbar adjustment is a dream! I too stained my chair with sour cream dip and the cleaning spray I bought from Secret Lab took it right out! I am very pleased with my purchase and have no desire to upgrade but If they decide to release a Guild Wars 2 chair....... lol . Thank you for posting such a great review!! :)

A good detailed comparison - I have both the 2020 Titan PU and the 2022 Evo NeoHybrid so I can provide a comparison on those. Material: Overall difference in material is huge. The 2020 PU was of decent quality, feels smooth but if you squeeze it you can tell its PU. Also prone to flaking after a few years. The 2022 NeoHybrid is much more like real leather. It has a 'fake nappa leather' feel that I'm sure would fool a few people. Its the sort of material that wouldnt seem out of place in a decent car. HOWEVER. The noise from this on my early unit is crazy. Everywhere the leatherette touches the plastic parts of the chair, it squeaks and rubs like crazy with the smallest of movements. Apparently this issue has now been resolved - and they are sending me out a 'barrier kit' to install that apparently 'wont effect the look of the chair but will stop the rubbing of the materials'. But this isn't expected to ship to me until october. Until then I have wedged some cardboard in it. Lumbar - Whilst I prefer the clicky control for lumbar on the 2020, I always found it to be a bit too low. Overall a big improvement in the 2022, but I have an early unit that produces INSANE amounts of creaks and sounds. They are currently working on a replacement to send out and apparently its a common issue with early chairs. Im also not too sure about the slight bulge on the upper back area, seems to be causing me a bit of pressure. But overall ergonomics much better. Seat Base - much better, the previous one did put a lot of pressure on my thighs causing me to lower the chair to compensate. This new one is slightly less plush but I prefer the shape by far. With regards to recline, the functionality, and handle, is much improved, but the chair does not feel as stable as my 2020 at full recline. Overall a mixed bag for me, I think ergonomically it is an improvement, but for kicking back and relaxing without any issues or worry I've returned to the 2020 until the issues are all resolved.

@@Spencerwalker21 I'm thinking to do the same, as I can't send back my chair for warranty (I live in Indonesia but I need to order it in Singapore, no EVO 2022 in Indonesia, and so I have to pay for the delivery + import tax..). I sent an email to Secretlab asking if they were working on those issues (noise + magnet for the pillow), and I'm waiting for their answer. I love this chair, but due to the overall cost including delivery to Indonesia from Singapore + custom tax, this chair is gonna cost me 560$ (US), so I dont want any issue...

Hey, great video, thanks for the insight. I'm very tempted to get a Titan Evo (I would love to get the Batman one but I think the soft weave will feel a lot better. I hate sticking to leather car seats so .. :D ) I was wondering about the wheels, Are they rubberized (is that a word?!) or are they just plastic? I have hardwood floors and I don't want to scratch them up. Do you have any experience with that? Thanks and cheers from Germany :)
@BenCad
@BenCad 2 жыл бұрын
Can’t say I can offer much on how it performs on hard floors but The wheel rollers so have a slight rubbery feel. I would be surprised if they were a problem for a floor surface like that. At this price point you’d assume/hope it would be ok!

crazy you brought up the fact that the new arms will in fact fit on the old 2020 chairs. when i asked secret lab about getting the new arms for my 2020 they basically told me that they would not fit because it had a different bolt pattern and that they could give me a discount to buy the new chair. all this derived from a warranty claim for the arm rest on my 2020 lol

@BenCad Жыл бұрын
Yeah.. I've heard that too, I'm not sure why or if any there have been any product revisions but yeah. Definitely had no issues doing the old swap over on mine - which what was first production model of the Titan Evo, and a mid generation Titan which had some product revisions like the magnetic bolt covers etc. I'm actually quite surprised there is no arm rest upgrade path for older Titan yet.

Hey Carlo, first up thanks mate. To answer your question, my Evo is the Regular size first up and yeah pretty much to sum it up both chairs feel pretty similar, and thats pretty much my answer to your question too.. Height wise from top of the seat base to the floor at the lowest setting is approx 44cm, similar to the TItan. Should support is pretty similar too at least for my size, while the Titan looks like it has more shoulder support I think its mostly aesthetics. I hope that helps, cheers.

Do you think they'll lower it by 50ish dollars, if not and it'll be like 40 or less, I think i'd just buy it right now. Appreciate the videos on the chair though, i loved the audio test in the 2020's video as my current chair's noise has been a huge issue for the entire ownership of it, and this is what i needed as a cherry on top. For some reason the 2021 models have a known issue with the lumbar support assembly creaking when you sit back on it. Had mine for a week now and it's super noticeable sadly, they claim a legitimate solution will be released but hard to say how that looks. Everything else about my unit is basically perfect though.

I’ve watched all your videos on these chairs, really appreciate the effort you’ve put in and your neutral delivery. It’s helping me a lot. I am definitely getting a secret lab chair, but torn on which. The 2022 looks great but the wobbly arm rests I’ve seen on other videos look terrible - how are you finding them in reality? If they are annoying I’ll go for the 2020 and accept the downgrade on other features. Thanks 👍

Hi Paul, thanks for the feedback appreciate that. I’ll put it this way - the arm rests on both my chairs are pretty much the same I guess on the ‘wobble factor’ part. So I wouldn’t make that part of your consideration in my opinion. Otherwise I’ve never mentioned it in any of my videos because to be honest I don’t really notice it and haven’t had any issues with it.. it’s fine. For me, they ‘wobble’ less than previous chairs I’ve had from lesser quality brands and feel significantly stronger too. I hope that helps you’re decision mate. Bonus - the optional plushcell arm rests are very nice on the 2022 :) Cheers.

Still finding both chairs good and both seem to still look brand new! The only real update I have is after reading a bunch of comments from other users on this video that say their chairs seem to have much stronger magnets for the head rest. I decided to reached out to support/warranty and they're sending me a new backrest which I haven't received yet so will be interesting to see how that goes. Hoping they may have improved the magnetic strength after the first batch of chairs!

Hey mate, you certainly don’t have to use the pillow. But I think once you do it would be hard not to use it. It’s quite comfy. You might find the non-pillow experience a bit firm if you’re laying down reclined in the chair etc. it’s not too soft up that end of the chair.

I bought the 2020 TITAN 1 week before the new chair 2022 was released. I told the support that I wanted to send my chair back and I would buy the new version after. But then after some reviews, I find myself in a situation where it's difficult to decide if I send it back and buy new one or keep the 2020. Honestily I like more the design of 2020, It looks more robust, it's bigger and has flater seat. In other hand, the new version has new features, like magnetic pillow and magnetic arm supports, which honestly I don't see it as anything special, but yeah, the improvement on the lumbar support seems to be interesting, although I heard that after one week the lumbar support starts to make noises every time the person seats back... So now I am in this dilema... send it back and buy the new one, or just forget it. Actually the support team gave me more than one month to return the 2020, so I still have the chance to do it... this happened because I told them that I wanted to send it back afer 7 days and they didn't understand that, and then I went in vacations and I had nobody to pack it and send it back to them so they extended the return time.

The 2020 is a great chair. If you like the design and find it comfortable, why not keep it, save the extra money and avoid the magnetic pillow issue. I have a 2020 and I'm probably about to buy another. My height and weight equates to 2020 Regular or 2022 XL - I don't think the extra $110 is worth it just to get the newer model. Honestly If the lumbar support would be like 1 cm higher, I thing it would be perfect for me. Also the pressure under my knees is something that bothers me a little bit. I was thinking about to change for the 2020 Omega before I saw the 2022 release. I am 180cm tall so both could work I guess. Anyway, is anyone that has the 2022 facing some problems with the noise of the lumbar support. I read a lot of reviews where people complain about this annoying noise. Dont't know if this only with some people or it's happening with everyone.
@BenCad

@@samuray500 sounds like you may benefit from some of the other improvements potentially. Re the back of knee pressure i hope you can see the difference in shape on this new video, might help your decision. Re the noise issue, I've seen it mentioned too but so far my chair has been pretty much quiet (check my sound test section). I mention in the video I can occasionally feel some subtle mechanical movement inside the lumbar support especially when its set to the max setting. I'm not sure if thats related or not but I will be keeping an ear and eye out for it as the chair is used. If it does, I've only ever had positive experiences with their warranty support so far so I'm confident they will look after it and sort the issue out. At 11:40 you say “you can feel the mechanical items”. Is this code for the crunch noise that people are reporting. I sold my XL 20 to get the R sized 22 but I’m worried about the lumbar noise people are reporting!? Is yours noisy!???

Hey Jack, thanks for the message. To be honest, I am not sure! But keeping an ear out for it. You're certainly not the first one to ask! So I've been paying more attention to the symptom as I use it since posting the video. Currently, I don't have the crazy creak noises that I've seen in some other videos. I would still describe it as this as a mechanical sensation like I say. I've just noticed sometimes you can feel the inside doing its thing as you pivot around on the chair. Its one I cant compare with the old Titan either because the lumbar support is so much better. Like the max lumbar setting on the 2020 Titan feels sorta like the lowest setting on the 2021 Evo, so I can sort understand how I can feel some movement inside the Evo chair considering how much more prominent the lumbar support is. I do know Secretlab kind of owned up to the problem early on and let early adopters know of the issue so I would imagine they would have or would be aiming to fix the problem asap. I'm not sure if this chair was a first batcher or not but yep no crazy creaks yet. However, considering a bunch of Evo owners have commented here mentioning their magnetic head rests appear to be much stronger than mine in this video. I am considering putting a warranty claim through on that which I think will need a back rest replacement. If that happens I will certainly compare and see if that mechanical movement I noticed is gone with its replacement. Either way, so far I've only had good experiences with their warranty support previously, so not feeling to stressed if the creaking does start! Wow that was a long reply-its late at night. Hope that helps you anyways! Cheers!

@@BenCad hey there! Cheers for the super reply. Haha my friends usually mock me for having a conversation, but I’m not known for one word replies! Thank you for this, this has put my mind at ease. There is actually only ONE video I can find where someone highlights the lumbar support noise. So it must be minimal. Other metal seat base noises people highlight are minor and easily fixed with WD40. I think people live under a rock if they believe that any chair/door/gate etc doesn’t need periodic lubrication. After all, earth moving machinery has grease systems that pump grease into every articulated pin every 10-30 minutes… doesn’t hurt to lubricate a chair once every 6-9 months! Might send them an email and ask if they are making any modifications to the newer ones for those who have ore-orders. I dare say they wouldn’t want to admit it, but they would be mad not to make rolling changes. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I’ll hold onto my order. I said it with the 2020 - the build quality was outstanding compared to even my $1k Herman Miller I got for free from work. (It needs lube every now and then too haha - who would have thought!) Thanks dude! Have a great week!

@@BenCad ok. It just arrived. I’ve assembled it, and zero noise. It’s as perfect as my 2020. But the new features are great! I am 100000% certain that just because you are tall you SHOULDN’T get the XL. I’m a lean 6”6 and the regular is perfect - the xl had zero side support. I really appreciate your reviews of the Titan chairs Ben Cad, i got myself a 2020 Titan XL on sale and regret it! it's barely taller than the standard Titan i think from further reading and i am not a wide guy so my bad there, then i find it is not level (seat base is tilted) and some other defects in quality and condition of finish. They sent me a replacement back to deal with a stitching and zip condition manufacture issue and a squeak that developed, OK but the base i found to be not level, so they send me a replacement seat base, however the issue is clearly not that, but the mechanism component underneath, I make a video to prove the issue being the tilt part/base, at this point they agree i am eligible for a refund (although already outside of the standard return policy so that is appreciated) however i have never yet found the chair to be supportive for my lower back and only since then i used a bed pillow (and i tried a few different types) until i got the chair to feel like it should, It's like a chair shell without the padding and you have to add your own, the included headrest is ok and required i think but just now again popped off (elastic type not magnetic) and the base lumbar is not provided as standard

I’m 6”6 and 92kg. I got the 2020 XL and 100% it’s no good if your healthy BMI but to be fair the original advertisement said it was for over 100kg people. I found the armrests at full adjustment inward was too wide, this meant my back would get sore. As I couldn’t put my shoulder weight on the armrests directly. The seat base and backrest were also too wide. Giving you the feeling of sitting on a park bench in terms of side support. I sold it for almost what I bought it for and have ordered the evo 2022 REGULAR. The advertisement for the EVO now says that I should get the XL but after comparing the stats. The XL armrests are the same width between the 20 and 22 models. And I KNOW the 2020 XL is too wide for a healthy tall person. I’m convinced the width of both XL’s is a massive mistake if your a healthy BMI but tall, you will get zero side support. As far as noises go. SO many people complain about creak noises on all chairs. Get yourself some WD40 and go exploring, every large earth moving machine has a grease system to periodically pump grease into the metal pins of suspension and articulation points. Chairs are a bag of moving pins. Give them some lube! Can’t expect them to build a chair with ball bearings on the swivel joints…… and you can’t expect a bunch of pins in a chair to not need lube every now and then. My (free) $1500 Herman Miller needs a spray every 6-9 Months.

@@ibsn87 So does the evo 2022 regular provide head support? (i need to check their specs) but my last chair an Artiss which broke both plastic arms, the backrest height was a neck rest at best, still actually a better experience for me than the XL which as you say feels like sitting on a parkbench - no side support (and the lumbar for me as well) I could not find the source of the squeak, and i have WD40 and sorted the Artiss chair for that reason which the cause was in an odd place from factory (inside the actual tubes that the wheels attached to twisting/flexing on itself)... Any thoughts on the Humanscale Freedom Headrest model if you have tried?
@ibsn87
@ibsn87 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheZenMicro if I recall correctly. The 2020 XL backrest is the same height as the 2022 Regular. I find it perfect.. depends on your torso height I guess? The 2022 Regular is 10000% more comfortable then the XL. I’m ever so slightly held in place on the sides. The XL was great, but just didn’t feel right. Definitely too wide for a lean body type. The magnets in the pillow itself are crazy strong. But there isn’t enough steel in the head rest itself. It does fall off easily - this is true. It’s by no means a deal breaker. You can zip the fabric off the backrest. I might see about putting some steel sheet in there 🤷🏼‍♂️ The lumbar support is superior to the 2020. And it’s got zero noise. *****Edit; it’s become a bit noisy in certain positions. But it doesn’t worry me I like that the arm rests pop off. I can see them being due for replacement due to wear in 4 years time. Maybe not needed but I like it’s an option. Really impressed. Happy I sold my XL and sidegraded to the newer Regular softweave black. Used my own referal code but a different email address for the new purchase and my wife’s name. So $35? off and another bottle of cleaner. I sold my 2020 for $600 so no loss! And got the discount on the new one. Would go softweave every time. I don’t trust ANY PU leather. I want this chair to last 15 years not 5.

@@harpoon_bakery162 I had posted on another secret lab chair KZbin video and someone similar size to you was worried about going against manufacturers recommendation on size (the new 2021 says to go XL). He took my and someone else’s advice and couldn’t be happier with his Regular (as am I) the magnet pillow is shit FYI edit* the pillow is good. But there’s not enough steel in the chair itself to reliably hold it there if you plonk your ass into the seat it will flick off. . I have a band holding it up and a bit higher. And the lumbar support in certain positions can be a little noisey as some people have reported. It’s not a deal breaker for me at all. And I appreciate that I can move the support exactly where I need it.

there's not enough cushion on these chairs in the back or seat. It's like sitting on particle board covered in pleather. Not someplace I want to sit for hours. Even though it's wide enough, looks cool and awesome unboxing experience. I bought the Titan EVO and just got it Friday Dec 3rd. I'm going to send it back. There's NO support on your back. Might as well get a pillow and other stuff. No spine supports it's just a flat board and the seat is no better than sitting on the floor with minimal carpet. Who cares if you can lean back or adjust it if it makes your body feel like you got run over after you sit in it for a couple of hours. truly disappointing since I have wanted one of these chairs for over a year.

Btw you made a mistake when saying that the new neo hybrid is 12 times better than the prime 2.0 pu. (The correct information is that it is 12 times better than the regular pu meaning its 3 times better than the prime 2.0 pu. :) Also in general, unless you're the dirtiest, sweatiest and least careful human on earth, the 2020 prime 2.0 pu shouldn't crack, lift, soften or discolor over time. And the neo hybrid can simply not crack due to its accelerated hydrolysis development technique which unifies the particulate fibers of the leatherette
