Just a couple questions raised for me. Does the Famicom manual have the same (or similar) information about the story and world of the game? I feel like this is significant, since it can kind of be ignored if it's just creative localization. And my other question - the game has 256 levels (most of which are garbage data). I'd be very curious to hear the explanation of this (in layman's terms if possible). Especially considering how the developers creatively kept the game as small as possible. An something anecdotal - I'm pretty positive that I discovered many of these levels when I was a kid by altering an existing set of Game Genie codes that changed your starting level. I'm guessing there may be some information out there about this.

The most interesting thing to me, about this era of games, was one of the first points you made: the size of the game. It is almost a lost art really.... creating a great game that fits in X amount of storage space and can only use X amount of ram. There's some other videos that go further into how they pulled this off and all the programming and graphical tricks they had to utilize. It is a very interesting subject matter.

I’m making a gameboy color game and I have to worry about the memory usage all the time. The maximum it can be os 4MB and I have tons of other limits like only 7 sprite palettes (only 3 colors per sprite) and 6 background palettes. Plus only 192 tiles per screen and only 25 sprite frames per scene! It’s challenging, like a fun puzzle

Ran into your channel when I saw your link to the past retrospective and got hooked on your videos. You have a very underrated channel I like it a lot it brings back a lot of memories and makes me miss the 90s so badly.

Amazing, great research! It's incredible how much information there is still out there to dig up on these classics.
