When the snes first came out, my dad took me to a electronics shop where they had a display snes up and running. F-Zero was playing. My dad got me to try it 'i was only 7 or 8' and he was laughing and joking saying "oh you can't do it, shall we not get it" 😄 He didn't buy it while we was there, but a couple of weeks later it was Christmas day and it took pride of place under the tree as the main present for me and my brother. This game was so much more than a "tech demo". If fact it's probably my favorite racing game on the system. It gets brutal with the Master difficulty but you have to beat it to see the true ending. I love that sound of early SNES games which all use that same drum sample and bassline for the tracks. My favorite tracks in the game are probably Big Blue and Port Town. I never knew Mute was an abbreviation for Mutant but it makes sense. I also really like the old comic book version of Captain Falcon. He looks more like a futuristic racer where as his current form makes him look more like a super hero. It's sad to see that the F-Zero series has been dormant for quite some time but hopefully Nintendo brings it back someday.

I bet this game had many people dropping their jaws when it was new. I'm glad I'm not the only person who noticed the Silence track looked like a 9mm pistol! Your retrospectives are really special. Something I can't find anywhere else is really putting me in that place and time, for either the NES or the SNES, they were before my time, so even with retro gaming as a passion, it's not for nostalgia for everything, but appreciation for what's come before I guess, so getting a sense for what it was really like to experience something like F-Zero and why it was so special isn't something I'd have really felt, even if I kinda understood it from an outsider point of view. @@Jolly-Green-Steve I don't think this is entirely true. Nintendo is one of the very few companies that still gives chances to franchises that don't sell very well for the sake of innovation, quality and fun. This isn't always the case, but even then we have to remember that companies exist to make a profit. So with that in mind, we customers are partly responsible for many good franchises dying out. Sad but true. On the other hand, Big N is very stubborn sometimes and don't seem to hear its fans out for what they really want. They often make games when and the way the feel like doing them.

Nah, just play an original copy with a CRT TV.

Well, this game got a remake in the form of a battle royale. And it's awesome.

So, I never grew up playing the Super Nintendo and F-zero, and honestly I kind of wrote the game off until recently. I've have been jamming so much F-zero lately, I think It's my second favorite racing series next to Outrun. Dope vid as always dude!

Ahh yes, F-Zero, I didn't have this one myself growing up but one of my friends did and he would bring it over quite frequently. I actually got pretty good at it then but when I got the SNES mini and sat down to play it I discovered my reaction time now isn't what it used to be back then, don't get my wrong I still play the daylights out of it, there's just a bit more cussing now when I do play it.

It might not be your reaction time, but rather latency from the emulation or TV or both combined.

I was definitely rusty when I captured the footage. It took me forever to beat Fire Field.

Crap! You’re a legit pro! Which records do you hold?

Fire Field best total and lap time, White Lands 1 & 2 best total and lap time, and for the life of me cannot remember the 7th off the top of my head. All records can be found on Twin Galaxies. I still have a SNES and the game cartridge with the times on it. who knows someone may have kicked my ass since then...was a long time ago. i am not a pro, i just really enjoyed the game to the extreme.

thanks i appreciate it. i find there are tons of people out there that have world records like me. they just dont know it. i didnt know it. until discovering Twin Galaxies and browsing the records. i pulled out my old cartridges and powered it up and was like "mine is better than that", but then of course you have to practice and "do it for the camera" to submit it. but yea. im sure everyone has that one game that they played to perfection and dont know that what they saved on it may be the best anyone has done on that game.

Absolutely stellar effort with this video. F-Zero is without a doubt a classic and so are the other entries. Been playing this game off and on since it released and it'll always have a special place in my heart for everything that it is and what it achieved. Great video, thanks!

This game ruined all other racing games for me. Nothing compares. "Wipeout" came closest, but it didn't capture the magic F-Zero. Too floaty.
