Some stuff I picked up: - mimic a jungle environment to grow monster plants - cover the garden floor with crushed rocks to increase humidity - don't plant in too big a pot, because the plant will focus on growing roots instead of leaves. Once the pot is fully occupied with roots, that's when the plant starts pulling out leaves. - don't remove the soil from the rootball when repotting to minimize shock - clay pots can help absorb excess minerals to keep calatheas from developing brown tips - smell the soil to check for root rot

This the only complete guide for growing and caring for the Calatheas I have ever found. I only have 2 because I am still studying them. So far they are still alive and thriving. I put all my plants close to each other sorrounding a little fountain. The fountain somehow contributed to the increase in humidity. I didnt really do anything special than watering my calatheas and they are just thriving on their own. Watching this now makes me decide to add other varieties of Calatheas in my collection.

.. 🤗 Ooh my.. I've only got about 20 or so and I don't really find any of them very difficult.. Only a wee little puzzled with my Leopardina.. My Leopardina bloomed like crazy from spring and during summer.. Everybody said that it was a no go, but she seemed happy.. Now she looks like a mess 😳 I lost my sweet White Star two month ago, when my house sitter looked after my house for 3 days.. She watered my White Star with tap water and had the garden door open every night for hours.. My Calatheas was freezing (I live in Scandinavia).. I boil my water and run it through a paper coffee filter when cooled off, and keep the water temperature somewhere between lukewarm and cooler.. I flush them every other month and feed them with seaweed and fish emultion.. My soil mix is coco coir, worm casting, perlite and orchid bark and so far it seems to work.. I don't have a humidifier but I happily mist them twice a day and make pebble trays.. During winter they like to have a lot more direct light, but during summer they are outside on my porch, partly shaded having bright indirect light.. I've only got them all this year, so I'm fairly new to Calatheas.. But I love them, and even my Tristar and Marantas are growing like crazy, so I'm happy 🤗🌞Thank you ever so much for explanations about most everything to these beauties.. And yop, you're absolutely right.. They will show immediately if something is wrong.. Only, they don't tell you what it is ☺️

Thank you for sharing. I struggled with indoor Calatheas (few died under my care). Then I put under car porch, where they huddled closely together with 20 other plants (dieffenbachias, monsteras, aglaonemas etc) so that they have good humidity (and I shower them twice per day, deep watering once a week). Turned out they thrive there! And for some unexplained reasons, my calatheas under car porch still survive despite direct sun 4 pm onwards (maybe they can tolerate sun after 4 pm). So my lesson here is, calathea care is also about experimenting, which part of my house is most conducive. Do make more video. Regards, from Malaysia.

Thank you for the video! I have a problem with my calathea Orbifolia: the leaves seem healthy but the stems are droopy, as if the plant can't hold the weight of the leaves. What can it be? Also, the plant came from Holland, where I think the growers use some kind of growing hormones since the new leaves come out very tiny compared to the old huge leaves.

Have you considered repotting it to a bigger pot. If it is still in its old small pot maybe the nutrienys and water in the soil isnt enough for its leaves and stems thus the wilting effect.

Yes most definitely. Any bodies of water whether a small pond outdoors or aquarium indoors will help add humidity

it is true for us here in Philippines, my calatheas are weak and easily attacked by pests when they are in moderate light but when they are in bright indirect light area, their immune system is stronger against attacks and even if I forget to water them. the moderate to low light is NOT true for us here in Pinas, maybe in other continents or growing zones.
