Correct, you don't have to arrive two hours early. This summer some airports like Amsterdam had queues for the security control that lasted three to four hours.

My rule of thumb is: For Normal operation: 2 hours before for a short haul European flight (uk) (At least, preferably more) 3 hours before for a long haul flight (Dubai, USA, Australia etc), as boarding can commence more than an hour before the flight and I wanna get settled on a massive plane sooner rather than later.

Not really for me, everything is falls, more chairs are next to the departure zone where you enter the airport, and arriving 2 hours early is mandatory becusde they close the check ins after that, so it's considered to be late if you arrived less than 2 hours from the time of the flight and you won't be board in.

London took me 15 minutes from entering the airport until being behind security. This was with Hand lugage and at London City Airport. DUS in Germany takes 20 minutes. Minimum arrival time before departure is often 45 minutes. Check-In often opens just 2 hours before flight. In some rare cases you can skip the queues when your flight is going to start soon, but this is really rare. Just my personal experience.

he's been across the whole of Europe, he's literally been in London since Ukraine started getting attacked. he knows far more than you. he's not recommending you try be late, & each airport in the word, at least from country to country, may have different rules, fit me, domestic flight check inns close 10 min before boarding starts, which is 1/2hr before take off. it's just that it's not a rule that you need to be there so early, but obviously London & ny are bigger & busier than a small town where there's only a few flights a day

@lefteyegomad
@lefteyegomad Жыл бұрын
3. The 2/10 times they detected a gun is still more times than no security. A seatbelt likely won’t matter much in a high speed crash, but that chance it can save your life means you’re more than happy to wear it still. Security is also a mix of targeting threats but also smuggling (drugs and other paraphernalia). Plus the 8/10 test was completed at US airports - best of luck trying it at far more secure airports like Tel Aviv! 4. Would the preference be a secure seated area far from shops and restaurants? In this video even the seating is face-to-face rather than facing directly at shops, and so I feel revenue seating isn’t as applicable here, or at least only deriving the smallest noticeable profit increase, as odds are you’ll be going to the shops regardless whether you sit there or in an adjacent room with no visibility of the shops. The convenience factor in location is the primary benefit and goal with this seating layout: not mind control 5. As others have stated, most airports have plenty of seating near gates. I’ve only been to Luton once and can’t recall that as much, but Stanstead airport next door can easily seat 50-80% of passengers waiting early. The main post-security lounge area has lots of seating whilst you wait for boarding to begin anyway - no one is forcing anyone to wait the 30 minutes from gate confirmation to boarding just outside of the gate! Those needing early boarding due to physical limitations would be prioritised gate seating by airport staff if other passengers refused to budge anyway, and early boarding pass holders can arrive closer to the boarding time without concern anyway. The only reason to arrive early at the gate in my experience us to sit and watch as other standing passengers move closer to the gate doors and you end up in the latter half if the boarding queue!

@@lefteyegomad No, 2/10 is still awful and basically useless. And that was AFTER the TSA made massive improvements. When homeland security first tested this 95% of contraband (guns, explosives and large amount of drugs) made it through. USA TSA security controls are actually better than in most countries. Of course Israel is an exception, they have a REALLY different approach to airport security. But in most countries it's even worse than in the the US. 2/10 is abysmal. I've said it before the first test was conducted and I'll say it now: those security controls are exclusively there for psychology and liability reasons. They're a waste of time and money and they're not particularly good at detecting drugs either. I've accidentally smuggled weed once and have accidentally "smuggled" a knife through security like 5 times. I'm a very forgetful person. DID YOU KNOW, the weapons used in the 9/11 kidnappings are STILL allowed? They have used box cutters as weapons. And knives with a length of up to 6cm are still allowed on airplanes, therefore box cutters are still legal though. I do not like how Max usually argues very one sided (on purpose), but in the security part he is absolutely right. Security controls are atrociously bad. And they're annoying.
@Minecraftrok999
@Minecraftrok999 Жыл бұрын
@@mikaelbriand-matthews4775 The feeling/psychology of it literally is the only good thing about it though. In air crime rates have developed in line with ground crime rates in the timeline, the instruction of post 9/11 security controls didn't have much of a real impact.

Pilot here, while the fact that airports use all kinds of tricks to make you spend more is true and honestly not that surprising, the total bullshit about water just made me mad. The CIA caught Pakistani terrorists that planned on making a liquid bomb on board an aircraft and came to the realization that if they restricted the total liquids you can carry to 100 ml the odds of 20 passengers all being terrorists making a bomb together on board would be extremely unlikely. It has nothing to do with making money, neither do small gates, they're small because space on an airport is precious, simple.

The reason the recommend you show up early is to get through security. I can’t say about airports outside the states, but but in the United States you can not have bottles of fluids more than 3 oz, because of a tempted attack with liquid. Again I can only talk about in the states side because I have only been to a large number of airports here, but most gates I’ve been to I have to go find a restaurant to eat at after I find my gate. Not having one close by me.

A buddy of mine said when he worked airport security, multiple people every day would forget they had a knife on them or bullets in their bag. This is in Alaska. Supposedly the airport has an ammo room from all the confiscations they’ve made. I imagine quite a few get through.

As much as I usually tend to agree… most of these are not about profit. It really can take up to four hours to get through a queue during summer vacation rush. Also if the water thing was because of profit they wouldn’t allow empty bottles through (and they do) and they als wouldn’t have free drinking water fountains (which most airports do) btw with new tech you are actually allowed to take water with you.

The reason you aren't allowed more than 100ml of fluid is to stop bottles of liquids exploding as the air pressure changes due to a gain in altitude, most airports actually have water fountains so you don't have to buy water at all.

Edit: I am a frequent flyer and an aviation employee for 6 years. This is the biggest bullshit I ever heard; - 2h before, well, it is written in your ticket when you buying it, and with some airlines, it is even mandatory because they are closing the checkin 1h30 before departure, and even if you don't have checked baggages, if you have any trouble and delay in your airport experience, well, they won't wait for you and you won't be refund, especially if they find out you came at the last minute. - Liquid limit is definetly something calculated to avoid potential risk with "home made bomb" or "illegal chimicals". It is mandatory in every airports, even where you don't have dutyfree - The security thing, bro... 😅 I don't know what to tell you. It is like telling us that police patrol is usless because they rarely catch a crime in action. It a prevention and dissuation system, like many others. - The seats... well, I don't know which airport you were, but this is totaly untrue, and some airport don't have good lounge. Please don't do an other "tip" video on board the plane. People who never boarded a plane before (or just using lowcost like buses) will believe you and this is causing a major malfunction and disorder inside airports and aicrafts cabins. Please think about the people who are working there, listen to them and respect the place and the personnal. Aviation is existing since 150 years, you won't find a trick to it like you are in a store 😂 This is desinformation you are doing here.

I've been telling people this for over 30 years. I've missed exactly two flights in my life. Neither one cost me any money. And one was in Mexico when the person wanted me to give him a bribe at 1 hour before the plane took off to check in. After calling the airline, I actually got a free ticket out of it. But more to the point. Yes in the last year we saw some anomalies with long lineups and security, but I've accidentally taken a very large buck knife through security and found it in my luggage when I landed and I couldn't figure out how they didn't see it. So I would believe that about 8 out of 10 people who try to get things through security can if they really want to. It's a feel-good measure and it employs a lot of people but it's not really keeping us safe. And it is extremely true that they want you to shop at those stores that pay an exorbitant amount of money to the airport to lease that space. I will still allow about an hour and a half but here in Canada they tell you about 4 hours for flights to the US or International and 3 hours otherwise. In some airports it may be necessary at certain times a day. But for the vast majority of the time the 4-Hour and 3-hour Rule is used to make sure everyone is there and sitting and waiting for a plane that will undoubtedly be delayed. The other time I missed a flight was after 9/11 where there was screwdriver bits inside my briefcase that are about a quarter inch each. You really could not harm anybody with this and the harm that you could do with your fist was many many times greater. I have to get scanned three or four times through security and I end up being late for the plane. I saw them close the door as I was running and I said by the way just out of curiosity how late was I. And they said you were literally one minute after the deadline to close the door cuz we had to leave. They simply put me on the next flight which was 2 hours later at no charge, so I really haven't experienced any inconvenience in my entire life but I have saved hundreds and hundreds of hours of my time not sitting there having a bottle of water for $12 and a sandwich for $22

I stopped at the liquids. 1. You arrive at the airport 2 hrs before to avoid queues and cry at the gate that you you missed your flight. Yes, it does happen pretty often. 2. Liquids are forbidden for security reasons. The limit was introduced after 9/11 AND in American airports you have free water everywhere. So it doesn’t matter that you buy it or not, the water is free. Also, in some airports (Amsterdam Schengen terminal for example) you CAN pass with liquids of any kinds because they have a new fancy scanner.

The thing about the security is a little misleading. That test was done on the TSA, but when done on a private airport security company (based in San Francisco) they did much better at catching the contraband. It’s not that all airport security is necessarily ineffective, just that the TSA specifically was ineffective. I’d like to know how well UK security does.
