The rotation must be perfect(and fast is not for everyone) and maybe to risky coach.But you are right in your analysis but i prefer help(SMALL) and recover its a game ,one agaisnt one (is a conversation coach)

Nothing is perfect in this game, but if you drill this rotation correctly, in the long run, your defense will work as best as it can and give u the best chance to stop your opponents.

I think its fantastic that you take the time to actually interact with all your subscribers. Seldom do I see KZbinrs comment on their own videos, let alone answer questions from their subscribers! We didn't show the 5th player for simplicity sake - there's another rotation after that. Either way, the more passes you force the offense to throw, the more chance you have to contest the shot.

No, since he can't be one pass away if he's on the weakside. To be one pass away, you have to be on the strong side. I just realized, I didn't quite explain eactly what 1 pass away, 2 pass away, 3 pass away means... hmmm...

It's a dangerous cross court pass - the player that sinks and fills, if he's alert, can steal it or knock it away. Much better than letting the offense have the simple pass for the 3.

It would certainly be interesting, especially the taking away the size,strength,speed part, LOL! I would love to see one of my teams, in that scenario, go up against another well coached team...

coach. great video. another idea for a video that I haven't seen is the proper footwork to fight over a pick. so many NBA teams run pick and roll that fighting over a pick is such a key step in stopping penetration.
@bballbreakdown

I know, right?
@bballbreakdown
@bballbreakdown 11 жыл бұрын
Yeah - but there's also a fifth guy out there (that we didn't show for simplicity sake) that would also rotate. If you consistently make the offense make that many extra passes, you'll be in good shape.

It works perfectly against the NBA. When teams rotate properly, in the long run, they'll be a good defensive club.

Right - if that happens, then look to the weakside help (and the on ball defender for letting his man get by him)

Could you possibly do a position breakdown series? Like rebound, post up, some screen stuff etc for centers, dribbling, passing and reading the team for point guards, shooting, contact layups and fakes for SFs That'd be cool.

Helping one pass away is my pet peeve too Coach. My knicks do this all the time, and its why there 3pt defense is so bad. They rank 30th in opponents' 3 point shooting, constantly u see the knicks leaving players open for 3.

Always better to force the offensive to make an extra pass or two - it'll give your defense a chance to rotate over and pressure the shot. Another chance to steal the ball as well...

I like these videos the best, kinda like an intro to basic basketball principles. I would love to see a similar video that deals with rebounding. What makes a great rebounder, what makes a great rebounding team? Defensive rebounds get you the ball, Offensive get you extra shots. Mayhaps in the future? :)

Yes Coach!! The Basics will get you far. Knicks on the other hand don't trust Chandler as a weakside shot blocker because he is to inconsistent on help outs. Kenyon is more of a superb weakside blocker but at 6'9" being on the decline athletic wise.. He can't keep it up against most 7 footers who need to be contested all game..

Great video coach! Been following you for a while and it's awesome to see your channel grow so much. On a side note, do you think you can make videos on basic strategies? I regret not playing basketball much when I was younger and only became interested during college. I think my mechanics are now good but I don't know much about organized play...for example, breaking zone defense. A friend who played in HS told me something about high post/low post, in/out, (and being able to hit threes lol)

Coach, what about the guy on the weak side, when his man went to help the helper? Don't you then have the same scenario but on the other side? Wouldn't it be as simple as just turning around and passing that man the ball? Thanks for you're help! Gread vid!!
@Hannable28
@Hannable28 11 жыл бұрын
The reason why NBA teams do this is because the're taught to build a wall and protect the paint, force the ball away from the basket so teams rather give up a three than a open lane to drive towards the rim in which i can see the logic in that becuz 3pt shooting is the most inconsistent part of the game.I think players can be a little overzealous and over help which gets them in trouble a lot of time but Coach Nick demonstrated the perfect way to defend this situation GOOD VIDEO!

what if the ball handler does not stop when the defender jabs? since the player is not completely closing out on the ball handler then why not drive as if he was not there? help will likely come from weak side but then you have passing option to the short corner(usually a post player) or to the wing depending on where the help comes from.
@lolpauve

Coach what do you think NYK should have done instead of Melo helping? I don't know why or how the Celtics got Bass posted up on Felton. Should they have had Kenyon try to help of KG and try to block of a pass to Garnett at the same time (double team). I know Felton is pretty big (and by big I mean heavy) for a guard but still. that's 6'9'', 250 pound Bass on 6-1 190-something Felton.

coach, if say your team was to go up against a solid, well coached nba team; say the indiana pacers, but you take away the all the unfair advantages they have; size, strength, speed, athleticism, all that- and just physically speaking, they became similar to your team. Do you think you would be able to beat them? I'm assuming it would just come down to which team runs the best plays, has the best strategy, do you think you would be able to beat them and outcoach frank vogel?

in my opinion helping one pass away depends on the player you are helping off of and their shooting percentage. lets say kobe is guarding durant and ronnie brewer is in the game and someone helps off of brewer you can live with him shooting open outside shots because of his outside shooting percentage. now if kevin martin was in the game you shouldn't help because he shoots a higher percentage. i think its all about the player's shooting percentage you are helping off of but idk
