Secrets of Our Camps: Pulau Tekong

Singapore is made up of 63 islands and Pulau Tekong is one of them.
Pulau Tekong first appeared in early 19th century maps as “Po. Tukang”. “Tukang” means “merchant” as during the Colonial days, the island used to serve as a trading station for Pulau Ubin and the state of Johor. Previously inhabited by civilians, the island was repurposed for military training in 1987 and used by various units in the Singapore Army.

What a lovely, tranquil relaxing Island. I sure hope the holiday makers on said Island get their complimentary 5.30am wake up call by their personal trainers, who then lovingly motivate them to perform a 3.2km run whilst passionately talking about their grandmother’s physical stamina. I also hear that there’s a wide variety of recreational activities available; such as the shooting range, water parades where everyone enjoys a refreshing drink together as well as the ultimate camping experience where people get to spend 3 days star gazing, putting up tents and then digging holes to relax in. Also, gourmet cuisine is not to be missed; it’s usually all inclusive and the rice is cooked so nicely that you come out with jaws stronger than a great white shark.

There's more to the secrets of Pulau Tekong than depicted in this video. When the Imperial Guards Division led by LTG Nishimura under the 25th Imperial Japanese Amy led by LTG Tomoyuki Yamashita landed on Pulau Tekong to conduct a feint attack on northeastern Singapore, the British hastily dynamited the entrance to the underground ammunition dump somewhere in the south-central part of the original (un-reclaimed) island Apparently, some British, Australian and/or Indian soldiers were trapped and died in the ammo dump. Ever since, villagers who had lived near the ammo dump entrance heard the ghostly moaning and wailing of souls trapped in time.

Winston: I agree with u.I missed Pulau Tekong alot.During my NS days,i was stationed there.It’s was the best time in my entire NS days.After 5pm there is so much more activities to do then on mainland Singapore n it’s free..You don’t have to spent a single cent on that island.

kinda true.The graves there i think are not exhumed and just left there.You can see from old singapore maps graves were scattered along the island.So yea maybe

Some are definitely true. My time there was in the mid 70s, and again during reservist stints in the early 1980s. Toilets in the old camp were particularly notorious. Many recruits didn't dare go there alone in the wee hours. Very spooky.

I am curious of the seriousness of defence in Singapore. The matter of existence of "Military-Police", is the grey plastic bag really defence of Singapore? Information about enemies on a matter that someone seems need help but looking still need help(maybe over 25+years)? How about "how to be a detective(not police) even? There's no detective(not police) yet in the world I heard.
