The lost city of Petra is a majestic place thousands of years old that still holds hidden secrets waiting to be unveiled.
Petra lies on the slope of Jabal Al-Madbah in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of the Arabah valley that runs from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba.
Petra is believed to have been settled as early as 9,000 BC, and it was possibly established in the 4th century BC as the capital city of the Nabataean Kingdom.
Petra for almost five centuries was hidden to the outside world, until its rediscovery by a Swiss explorer named 'Johann Ludwig Burckhardt' in 1812. It is therefore called the ‘Lost City’.
In 2016, archaeologists discovered a large, previously unknown monumental
structure buried beneath the sands of Petra using satellite imagery.

The people of Petra is not the people of Thamud mentioned in the Quran. Rather it was an offshoot of the people of Thamud. The location where Nabi Saleh was sent to was in Al Hijr or Mada’in Saleh in current Saudi Arabia. And Allah knows best.

I heard that the people of thamud made mada'in Saleh in Saudia Arabia and the little Petra in Jordan. You can't make an offshot unless if you have access to the blueprint. If you look at the two sites, they look rather very identical. We know that the Nabataean settled there but they might have have moved into an abandoned site.

The inscription of the name Allah is very interesting and it was found in Petra. I believer the Nabateans descend from Nabaeot who is one of the 12 sons of prophet Ismail عليه سلم. The references of the children of prophet Ismail can be traced to the book of Genesis. And these are their generations: the first-born of Ishmael, Nebaioth, then Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam, Mishma, and Dumah, Massa, Hadad, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. These are the sons of Ishmael. Also something amazing is that kedar is mentioned and the prophecies of children of Ismail and kedar and also tema (the old name of Medina) is clearly mentioned by the prophets of the old Covenant i.e., old testament and if those prophecies are pointing to the children of Ismail it means that it makes explicit reference to our beloved prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم. By Allah those who reject and deny our prophet Muhammad being mentioned in the books of the prophet is lying and a denier of the truth and their own books and the prophets will be witnesses against them specially the Christians and the Jews!! Allah warned them clearly in the Qur'an "woe be unto them for what their hands have written and woe be into them for what they have done!!

It is a great place to visit, and though I think the cost to enter was around $80 for foreigners, it will blow your mind. You don't know how big Petra is until you walk around for hours. I suggest to arrive early in the day before the sun is too strong and reserve a few hours to explore, at least 4 hours.

Petra was not the dwelling place of Thamud. Check out Madain Salih in Al Ula near Madina in the hejaz region of Saudi Arabia. Evidence is the hadith of the Prophet SAW Narrated by `Abdullāh bin `Umar: When the Prophet (ﷺ) passed by Al-Hijr, he said, “Do not enter the places of those who were transgressors [against themselves] unless you enter weeping, lest you should suffer the same punishment as was inflicted upon them.” After that he covered his face with his cloak while he was on his riding beast. (Bukhārī, no. 3380). This was when the prophet and his companions had set out for the war of Tabuk from Madina. So it's somewhere between tabuk and Madina and not in Jordan. The only place that resembles such description is Al Ula. Well i wouldn't blame you for not having much knowledge about it. This place was left unattended and announced a UNESCO world heritage site only in 2008. And it was closed to public for renovations in 2018. It is still on shut down and will open only in 2020. Some people have also blamed that the ignorant arabs have tried to destroy it instead of protecting it because of the ominous origins it holds in their religions. Most of the niches carved in the walls where stood statues of the idols that those dwellers are now emptied. That's another proof that the locals have tried to get rid of the place. Hmm becaz there is a place around 400 kms from madinah, whixh is know as Madain Saleh, i think that prophet Saleh A.S was sent there.in todays age its in saudi arabia.

I believe its between madina and tabuk..... Petra isn't the ruins of thamud.......madain salih is!!! There is even a hadith regarding it!!!! Correct me if i am wrong.... Jazakallahu khair
