My good buddy who I played in a band with while attending college had one of these (I believe manufactured at some point in the '70s - he owned it from the '90s until some point in the 2000s, good condition, although the case smelled no matter what was done to it!), and I ended up spending quite a bit of time with it (as he absolutely hated stringing his many guitars as is, so suffice to say, he hated the process on this guitar 3 times as much!). Playing on the "off" neck while the "on" neck sympathetically resonates is definitely a fun, unique sound. I last had custody of it sometime around '04-'05, and your description of the neck profile, the overall feel brings back memories for me - I think you pretty much nailed it. I guarantee he paid a LOT less than $13K, for his (waiting for him to text me back what he paid back then).

Very interesting. The sympathetic output from the side of the guitar not being played does add evidence to the whole tone-wood debate. What I've read is that Vintage pickups were many times microphonic in nature. The belief is that the microphonics of the pickup(s) actually add to the overall tone of a vintage instrument. If the wood does indeed vibrate and add to the overall sound (and this would be expected as certain woods are resonate in nature) then the microphonic pickups would reproduce these sounds/harmonics and include these additional sounds/tones/harmonics and frequencies into the guitar's pickups output. So even though some have argued that tone-wood is a myth we here have clear evidence that the wood is resonating and inducing signal output in the other pickups. As I stated earlier, very, very interesting. So in theory as long as you have a guitar with a resonate piece of wood and slightly microphonic pickups you should have a pretty good sounding instrument. This whole thing kind of proves out why my custom built R9 sounds so good with un-potted Burstbucker #1 and #2 pickups as those un-potted pickups are indeed microphonic.

"Blemish"? Did we watch the same video? I may be wrong but I thought the wood was split and he could tell that someone tried to repair it due to evidence of wood filler . If that was really the case, then that was being deceitful by whomever damaged it. I understand that it's a relic guitar but damn. I'd be pissed if I found that on a 13 thousand dollar guitar. Hell, I'd be pissed if I found it on any guitar no matter the price of it. But on the other hand, it looks all to hell anyway so what difference does it really make? 🤷♂️ It's like buying an extremely reliced guitar that was purposely made to look used and abused and you complain about an extra scratch, ding or whatever that you think shouldn't be there. Troggly, you could say that even the truss rod being close to its limit is just for it to be authenthic and reliced :D

Allen Woody of the Allman Brothers Band/Gov't Mule had double neck Gibson with bass and mandolin necks on it. I saw him play several times (RIP Allen Woody)

fun fact Adam Day slash guitar tech said in the premier guitar rig rundown " I think its a 88 or 89" but his EDS 1275 is dated as a 66' witch makes it even rarer!

The two necks are wired parallel instead of series-that’s why the volume drops when you go to two necks from just one.

I hope the right people at Gibson see this video and work to stop the bad quality control. My guess is someone covered their tracks with the mistake under the pick guard for fear of losing their job. If Gibson cannot police quality control across such a high profile and extravagant run of only 125 guitars, they will forever remain known as a company that produces SOME great guitars amongst A LOT of rough. Many of us love good Gibson guitars but we are conflicted when we see such lack of QC. Great demo thank you, but still feeling flat about Gibson as a guitar brand. 🙁

I told you to get AN EDS-1275 not THIS EDS-1275. Cheaper, easier to unload, probably better made because the fixtures are in use. I'm griping, but glad you documented this anyway.

I've always wonderd what the intro and outro songs in your videos originate from did you make them yourself or are they just amazing covers?
