Kaido makes way too much as Shrek. As for him beating down strong opponents to make them bend the knee, I can imagine this is exactly how most of his interactions with his future crew went. After defeating them he would offer them a high ranking position. He would say "Hey now, you're an all-star, get your game on, go play"

also interesting how all of the beast pirates always give way for her, they dont look down on her in any way and always call her young master. Its possible they see her as a leader to replace kaido should anything happen to him. kaido seems to practice tough love, he wants the best for her but kaido has his own goals he wants to accomplish for his crew and self. He might have chosen to keep yamato confined for her safety seeing as the oni race are rather rare and we dont see her mother either but we know she is about the same age as ace which might mean her mother was killed during the Ace baby hunt. Kaido might really mean the best for her but her views are not the same since she does not have the same experiences as him and does not know about the past either.

Yeah, that's a really good point. I definitely agree with you that in Kaido's mind, what he's doing is caring for Yamato. He thinks his vision is what's best or what's right for the word. Kaido believes the strong are meant to prevail over the weak - and he's trying to reshape the world into one of constant war to facilitate the 'survival of the fittest' holding sway as the paramount rule or ethic. It's something I'm going to touch on in one of the upcoming sections, but I think all of the Emperors offer shadows or dark mirrored reflections of JoyBoy's ambition or vision for the world. They all contain elements of that which JoyBoy hoped to achieve, but they don't have the balance quite right - and their tragic flaws distort that vision and twist it into something dark / evil. Of course power is required to combat the forces of evil that oppress the One Piece world. Roger didn't even dare try without all of the pieces in place even with such powerful allies as Oden, Rayleigh, and Whitebeard. But what Kaido gets wrong is emphasizing strength as all that matters. No harmony, no freedom. Big Mom wants everyone to live in peace, but she overemphasizes harmony at the expense of free will. And Teach is probably the most dangerous because he directly challenges the central theme - pursuit of freedom. In any case, as you said, Kaido views his actions as justifiable. He views himself as the hero of his own myth. Think Thanos in Infinity War. He knows the world will consider his actions evil - and may not even take particular pleasure in doing them. But he still mistakenly believes his course of action to be necessary. That's what's so telling about Kaido. Despite the fact that everything stated on panel seems to be self-serving, he genuinely seems to believe his vision will transform the world for the better.

Great video. You're absolutely right about Kaido forcing his experiences on Yamato. Despite being invincible somebody hurt him real bad... The quote at 13:38 goes back as far as the ancient Greeks. From Wikipedia; The Athenians offer the Melians an ultimatum: surrender and pay tribute to Athens, or be destroyed. The Athenians do not wish to waste time arguing over the morality of the situation, because in practice might makes right-or, in their own words, "the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must".

Videos are great and your analysis is on point. If i could offer some advice on how your videos could be better? Maybe slow down a bit and give the listener time to think on some of your points. I would also recommend making your lines come off less scripted and less like you are reading directly from your script, it makes the listener feel emotionally detached from what you are saying. Otherwise i really enjoy your analysis and videos. Hopefully you dont take this criticism as anything other than me wanting the best for your channel.

It's interesting that Kaido didn't (at least from what info we have) intend to have Yamato take over Wano. It isn't really clear why he had Yamato, let alone chose to raise her, something extraordinarily rare for a pirate in the One Piece world. The Oni Princess tag is also interesting as Kaido has never had anyone refer to him with a royalty-esque title...wonder if it has something to do with her mother instead? Also curious about her Devil Fruit as I'm not really sure why Kaido would value it so highly. I suppose the boring answer could just be "because it's a mythical zoan" but I hope it has a more interesting utility or symbolic role from the past. Glad it looks like we won't have to wait much longer for the big flashback. That's the one thing left from the arc I'm really looking forward to.

Yeah, I really can't wait for Kaido's flashback. This portion of the video / series is actually quite a bit longer, but I'm splitting it up. It really feels like we're just beginning to peel back the layers on Kaido. You make a good point regarding the Oni Princess title - as Kaido isn't referred to by others as royalty, though the narration box in 795 accompanying his intro called him the 'King of Beasts', but that reads more like an epithet than an actual title / position given the context. I like your suggestion though that it could be through her mother. I suppose that could go either way. It's possible her mother is/was also an ogre, or perhaps she was a human. Her absence could be related to either Kaido's unconscious fear of betrayal / abandonment, or to the line 'the strong live and the weak die.' Perhaps Yamato's mother was someone Kaido would term 'weak'. Either way, I get the impression she's someone with whom Kaido genuinely let down his guard - and emotionally paid the price. As for her Devil Fruit - it really is fascinating. Kaido insists it's special to Wano and as you said, I'd love to learn more about the history of the mythical creature on which its based and the reason it's so revered. It's probably too late in he arc to reveal, but I always wondered if Kaido had an 'ace in the hole' so to speak. He's the dealer and his commanders are King, Queen, and Jack. I really thought Inbi might turn out to be his 'Ace', but his showing so far has been unimpressive. Certainly not someone Kaido would have wasted a mythical Devil Fruit on. It's just interesting that in Kaido's deck of cards, the 1 or the ace would turn out to be a low card.... then again, Inbi is still left standing. It's possible he's strong, but cowardly / dumb.

@@StrawHatJedi Cool to see the Kaido videos coming; was thinking Oda might end up partially beating you to the punch. If Kaido's partner is human that makes what he said to Yamato among the most depressing scenes in One Piece...I'm down for that. As for the Ace title, at first I was hoping that it was straight up Ace himself given his history in Wano. After Ace seemingly just kind of did nothing in Wano (still find that weird - for something foreshadowed so far in advance he just kind of serves the role of a plot device at the moment) I figured Oda was just skipping over it to avoid having to call a character "Ace". Then we got that One Piece Magazine spread with the mystery fourth guy and I got really hyped about it again but yeah doesn't seem like it's going to impact the story at this point unfortunately. Hopefully we get some fleshed out notes in an SBS or future One Piece Magazine.

@@burninghammer4765 Yeah, similar thoughts regarding Ace initially - particularly when coupled with Kaido headed toward Marineford. It seemed like there might have been a connection. I suppose Ace's role was just to tell Tama and Yamato about Luffy. I'm a bit surprised the Numbers had almost no impact on this battle. I guess they just added a bit of extra flair for the Beast Pirates, but I was hoping the 1 would at least be powerful. And yeah, I have also been worried about being preempted. I wrote / recorded the whole series as one big 9 hour block. Most of the writing last summer / fall and then recorded the bulk of it in November. I'm trying to edit and release them as fast as I can - but definitely taking longer than I would hope. The Luffy vs Kaido section has changed the most - I've re-written & re-recorded segments of it a bunch of times. But we have some breaks coming up, so hoping to complete the series sooner rather than later. I might even release a supercut when it's all done.

Very possible! Personally, I think Wano won't end until the fall at the earliest. Even if the battle ends sooner rather than later and Oda doesn't give us a Kaido flashback, there will still probably be 10+ chapters in the falling action, which, along with Oda's break schedule, would place the Straw Hat's setting sail in early fall at the earliest. If he does give us a Kaido flashback and there's another inflection point in the battle, like Kaido's awakening, we might even be looking at December - February for the true end of Wano. I do agree with you, post-Wano will hopefully be the arc which involves Sabo, Vivi, and Hancock - and Vegapunk!? I'm hoping Elbaf is another major arc - if not Wano size, at least like Whole Cake Island / Dressrosa. The current story saga will be about 400 chapters when all is said and done, so I'm thinking the 'final saga' will be about the same length.

The near future is exciting. One Piece after Wano is going to be insane hype chapters like we have been seeing half way through Wano all the way to the end of the story.
