So I worked for Disney when Big Thunder was built, fun fact about the trains. The trains were first painted by one team, then sent to the park and aged by a second team. The un-aged locomotives were absolutely stunning, but then had to be aged to look like old, beat-up trains, supporting the "runaway" train idea. Although the first team obviously knew that this had to be done, they were still pretty bummed to see the beat up version. It seems like they don't age them quite as much today. Nice work on the "first ride to be designed with computers", for which you're spot on. This is why the centers of gravity are so good, you get pushed down and not hard against the wall of the car, making it much more enjoyable for everyone.

Rhiannon Ravenswood Yep even though some choices from the latest update of phantom manor made the story a bit unclear to me (Melanie acting like Constance at the end of the ride) and unfortunately closer to haunted mansion, it’s still an amazing and unique case in Disney Parks, making the whole land so passionating. I just love to walk its paths and look around for reminders of the tragedy of Thunder Mesa. Did you know that the lucky nugget and a shop are also related to the plot?

@@melissaa3017 I absolutely adore the theme-ing. I am still so sad I didn't get to ride Phantom Manor when I was there. (long story.) But I am so incredibly in love with the new incarnation too. My name on social media is taken from the ride even. My BFF and I are planning a trip back to Paris DL hopefully next year since I haven't been since 2009.

When I was a more frequent Disneyland visitor in the 1980s, Big Thunder Mountain was one of the four rides on our grand circuit. We would start either there, or at Space Mountain, then ride the Matterhorn and whichever of these that we hadn't ridden yet and then use the Sky Buckets to ride back to the other end of the park to start the circuit again. On some visits we went through the circuit four or five times. I haven't tried this circuit with the Disneyland Railroad instead of the Sky Buckets, but I imagine it could still work if you time your ride appointments right. We also made sure to stop at the Lawry's taco restaurant right next to Big Thunder Mountain, Casa Mexicana (the location where Doritos were invented [but I think that happened in its predecessor, Casa de Fritos]) for lunch.

First Roller Coaster to feature speed control. Former ride was Mine Train thru Nature’s Wonderland formerly named Mine Train to Rainbow Caverns. Rides are based on Disney’s Academy Award winning True Life adventures Vanishing Prairie, Living Desert and Others. Ride has 6 trains but is designed for 7. That is a story in itself.
