It was so hard for me to watch this video not because you did anything wrong but because we just lost our beautiful sweet lab almost two weeks ago and seeing yours out in the garden with you reminds me of her, she was my right hand lady 🥹😔 beautiful dog and beautiful plants!

Me too. I need many more though

Ahhh! Your division is so much more rough than mines. I tease apart the roots. There’s no need to cut the plant in half. Teasing the plant alert and allowing it to keep its roots in tact also helps with bouncing back from the division.

I normally fill my hole up with water, let it drain, then plant the plant. That’s just the way I was taught when I was little. Is it different for different parts of the country? I’m in Michigan. I’ve lived in 5 other states, but now that I think about it, I’ve never done any gardening in any other state.

So here in the south, with our heavy clay soul you run the risk of just creating a bowl of water that won’t drain. If it’s amended well, you mitigate the risk but I’ve still had plants that I almost lost because of accidental drowning. But nothing wrong with your technique as long as you are aware of the possibilities

You have any tips on what soil to use?
@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO3 жыл бұрын
Have you seen my other video? They like a nutrient rich soil with good drainage but can thrive in a clay soil with the right amendments. Watch my other video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZrLeKmYbbybp6c

Gorgeous hosta collection! I have a dappled shade bed under a tree and I’ve been looking at the gilbert h wild catalog, making my list for new hosta. I was interested in the giants. Do you have any experience with the giant varieties? Thanks for the tips and demonstration. I’m in Houston zone 9

How much sun do they need?
@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO3 жыл бұрын
The ones I split in this video do well in full Sun. Other varieties like . Just depends on the variety

@@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO what are the ones you have in full sun being in the south?
@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO3 жыл бұрын
@@mariamaul7451 I think these are the “patriot” variety but I’m not entirely sure. I purchased them at a landscape supply store last year and I don’t remember them being named at all.

@@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO thank you. I live a couple states north of you and I want a hosta that takes full sun. I think it’ll work here. I’m in a zone 6a.

@@TonyCollumtheHOWTOHERO They are Undalata Albomarginata. Patriot does well in sun but its leaves are much more heart shaped.
