You climb just over 400', topping out at around 1830' above sea level

About 30 miles NE of here is Spy Rock. It is equally as enchanting, but not as large, but with a nice spring running at the bottom of it. Love your vids!

I was seven when I first climbed Enchanted Rock. My late mother loved to drive around the Hill Country to see the Bluebonnets in the spring. We would go to Enchanted Rock as part of the trip. I moved away from the Hill Country, but return whenever I can I agree with the statement, every Texan should climb the Rock.

Awesome! I climbed Enchanted Rock back in '06, and really need to go back there and do it again. I'll never forget the fantastic view from the top, and the imposing size of that granite dome when approaching it from the bottom. I climbed it in August, and I remember the temperature that afternoon was 106F. But hey, I'm a native Texan so it was no big deal. It's pretty dry there so the heat wasn't unbearable. I can imagine climbing it in cold weather and it would be a cakewalk. Lol

Very good. I grew up in Llano and I first climbed that wonderful rock when I was, I expect just able to walk. Maybe my dad carried me. Who knows. The memories go that far back. It was not a state park then. The area was owned by the Moss Family and sold to the state in the early 70’s. The park is truly special. It certainly is a part of my roots. It can be a part of your joyous memories too. Plan a trip and take your family there. This land is 1.4 billion years old. This area called the Llano Uplift rose out of the super continent Pangea. This underlying rock is part of the same geological action which stretches from Big Bend Nation Park to, and I am not exaggerating, Appalachia. Grow some memories Texas Style. This should not be missed but leaning the geological significance plus the human significance and history will enhance your experience. Do not forget your camera, binoculars hat, sunscreen and water bottles.

The west loop trail around to "scenic view" and back is, I believe the best trail. There is a park ranger buggy path before scenic view you can take to the top of "little" rock. Nice trek!! Also, a beautiful view is atop freshman mountain looking over buzzard's peak. 👍 Enchanted Rock is undoubtedly one of the top hiking trail parks in Texas. Going "off trail" is the ticket! Very easy to maintain your sense of location with such large reference points available. Small area, BIG adventures!! 💯

Texas Ranger Captain Jack Hays held off a Comanche War party on Enchanted Rock,,,,,,,he got attacked and retreated to a gap in the rock,,,so he had cover on all sides except in front of him. The Comanche's would make a Charge but Captain Jack was a Great shot and had pistol's and Rifle and held them off. After quite a few were on the ground they gave up on Captain Jack. Gillespie County is named after Texas Ranger, Robert Addison Gillespie,,,,he fought with Captain Jack on Ranger patrols and in the Mexican American War,,,,,,Both are 2 of the Bravest and Ultimate Warrior's Ever......RIP Captain Jack and Add Gillespie

Climb caught my eye , There is a few climbs ( friction ) on one side and in the area . The rest is a walk in the park . HOT in the summer , Texas hot . Not the friendliest Park personnel .

The path on the Enchanted Moutain, is it dirt, gravel or mostly climbing over rocks?
@secretsoftexas68722 жыл бұрын
A little gravel at the beginning but mostly walking on solid rock (granite). Other trails will have a lot of fine granite gravel with ocassional rocks sticking out.

We used to go camping over there when I was at UT. It's a lot of fun but you really need to be careful of scorpions crawling into your boots at night. Just shake them out really good before you put them on.
@TxHornyToad2 жыл бұрын
I did that climb to the top many years. How many miles did you go traveling all those trails?
@secretsoftexas68722 жыл бұрын
I hiked about 3.5 miles plus a little extra circling around the top of Enchanted Rock. However, over half of this would probably be considered "difficult" on trail guides.
