Good video, and you are correct, not enough information online about sectional beaming. Also, the first time I warped my floor loom I did the same thing, forgot to go around the back beam and yes, I corrected exactly like John did, remove and then replace, in place the back beam. Yes, after the freak out! HAHA Those towels are very pretty, and yes, aren't we all punching a little above our 'weight class' with every project? Yes, that's how you learn! Great video, thanks :)

I totally get it. I didn't want to use up all that space either for a bobbin rack. You do have to practice setting up the fishing line counter to get it just right to count it, but it does work. I'm sure it's not exact, but they're very close so I think it still helps with waste compared to just throwing it on bobbins.

I won't be winding lots of bobbins as you have done but will wind 1" wide warps on my warping mill and wind them on to the loom in order. Finally! someone else with a sectional beam that is 2" ! Every video I"ve ever seen shows looms with 1" sections, and considering how many problems I"ve had warping it, it seemed easier to me to have smaller amounts to do at a time. My loom sort of "came" to me; it is a Norwood loom and it is quite lovely cherry wood. But I have often wished for two other stooges to join me when I'm trying to do it because it's hard to be a stooge all by yourself! I have a hard time keeping the threads in order in each section because they turn over themselves as they roll on. Thanks to you, I have some really good ideas from how you did it that will help me next time. Although I have tried taping before, I think I"ll use a lot more and put the color changes in the middle. (My color changes so far have always been random whether I liked it or not). Thank you so much for this video. And maybe I can find a fishing line counter, because I don't have any way at this point to know how much is on my bobbins....I do a lot of guessing....alas. paula (I live in jerusalem, israel, and equipment to go with sectional beam looms is pretty hard to find)

It's extremely difficult to explain. I really should have talked with the loom in front of me, but live and learn!

Gorgeous! I love the colors. I did have that moment of panic with you, but simple solutions make it all better! I'm using up the warp that the previous owner had put on my 2 heddle loom, so I haven't had to wind more warp... I'm not looking forward to it.

My loom is currently in storage (with a project on it) as I don't have space for it in my current home. Moving this summer and this makes me so excited to get back to weaving!!!!

This is exciting! I bought a loom with a sectional warping thingy last fall and I'm planning to clean it and set it up this summer. I've also been looking for info about sectional warping and coming up with zilch! Holy crap is that gorgeous! I guess I'm going to need to buy one of those tensioning boxes. I'm pretty sure my loom didn't come with one. There is a box that is insanely dusty… better be brave and check it!

I really found it tough to get all the info I needed, so I just had to piece it together.

Hi Trish! I am watching this as I eat breakfast before I get ready for work. Thank you for this. It made sense. Looks great. One question - where do you find the time, energy, and motivation? I have a friend who says “Whatever drugs she’s on, I want them.” That’s how I feel when I watch you.

I believe the bolt your using on the drill is called a carriage bolt they come in various lengths like most bolts and screws do. I would either measure the length of your bobbin or take one to the store and make sure the bobbin will fit correctly

Thank you SO much for addressing the sectional warp! I have been wanting to warp for towels but am so intimated (I’ve been weaving rugs for a year and a half with the warp - all white- that came on my loom!!!) I am still so paralyzed on how much I need to buy to tackle this though 😅 but I appreciate your tips on how to use the bobbins! At first I thought I’d need to buy 40 spools or yarn or something 😮 $$$$ 😢

You can do it. If I feel like it's overwhelming, I'll just set a goal for myself to wind maybe 5 bobbins or wind them for 15 or 30 minutes. Then I stop and go do something else. It builds my confidence for stuff like this to see progress

Awesome video. Thank you for demonstrating your warping process! Like you say, not much out there that breaks down the steps Barney style for the newbies in plain language.. Does sectional warping always eliminate the need for a solid layer between the thread wraps, even for "sticky" animal fiber? Like, some people use butcher block paper between their warp, but having a bunch of 2"-wide strips of paper might be messy.

Yep! That's the main point of it. I'll be making a follow up to this video next time I warp to add some info I've learned
