Very well explained. Here’s the situation; Muslims, or any other minority in a community, understands the importance of secular values in a society. Even the Muslims of Pakistan support secularism when they migrate to a non-Muslim country. They do it in principle, though they may not be aware of it. Unfortunately they refuse to accept this in Pakistan. I agree though that it is mostly due to their misunderstanding of the term and to some extent their hypocrisy.
@burhanahmad2825 Жыл бұрын
False. Just because they "support secularism" in another country in not hypocrisy. Let me divide this into two points. 1- They don't "support secularism" it's what they get and thus will make sure to get the liberties that it gives (which are inline with the Islamic ideology). This does not mean they agree with the ideology but that they have to submit to it as "the law of the land" 2- It's only natural that a person would think of his/her benefits. For example any Muslim India would want a secular India over a hindhu nationalist India. But this does not mean they would not want a Islamic India over a secular India. It's just that it's the a realistic possibilty and thus something is better than nothing

Taimur saheb, keep this going. We can all be religious, if we want to, but the state shouldn't. Love from Allahabad. Most of the maulvis in India ACTUALLY believe in secularism in my experience. I love my Pakistani people but just like the state of Israel, it seems like it was a 'psy-op' by the Brits in order to keep India divided and stressed ad infinitum.

The Maulvis believe in secularism because the Muslims are a minority. If Muslims were the majority, these maulanas without any doubt would advocate the implementation of Sharia law. Indian Ulemas are against secularism, but it's important to remember that when the Indian Constitution was formulated in 1949, it was a social contract between Muslims and Hindus. This contract allowed Muslims to live in India peacefully. This is similar to the pact Muslims made with Jews known as the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, which included some un-Islamic conditions that were accepted for the sake of peace. So with due respect Dr laal is misguiding the people and misinterpreting the facts.

I have a question. if definition of 'secularism' is something that you explained then on the base of this, in secular state definitions of majority/minority need to be different. Interesting video, but honestly I don't agree with your interpretation of secularism. It is understandable you want to present something in a more acceptable way for Pakistani viewers. But if you want to do justice to the topic, you should discuss all the broader aspects associated with secularism. I would quote two main sources here which can give the readers a true definition of secularism: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secularism Secularism may refer to any worldview or principle which defines the secular at a given context, and prioritizes, justifies or promotes it over the non-secular.[1][2] "Secularism" has a broad range of meaning. While its definition as the separation of religion from civic affairs and the state is the most common,[3] it may connote anticlericalism, atheism, naturalism, banishment of religious symbols from the public sphere and much more. As a philosophy, secularism seeks to interpret life on principles taken solely from the material world, without recourse to religion. It shifts the focus from religion towards "temporal" and material concerns. . . Secularism may be categorized into two types, "hard" and "soft". "Hard" secularism considers religious propositions to be epistemologically illegitimate and seeks to deny them as much as possible. The "soft" variety emphasizes tolerance and liberalism.[9] www.britannica.com/topic/secularism Secularism, any movement in society directed away from otherworldliness to life on earth. Yes, you can twist the interpretation, make it compatible with religion, but in essence, secularism is in direct conflict with religion or any system based on divine inspiration.

Sir you are taking what they say on face value! If you listen to offical BJP statements, they sound as sweet and as progressive as these statements by some ulemas! Secularism for Indian ulemas mean freedom to have 4 wives, give triple talak, have sharia courts! I too am against modi and bjp but please don't try to secularise Indian ulemas and maulanas in western sense! They are as bad as pakistani ulemas or as good if you think otherwise!

Taimur sb, I would nudge you towards Irfan Ahmad's Islamism and Democracy in this regard. That will tell you why we should not be surprised. JIH and similar postures by other organisations is what political theory mandates when it is set in motion in its interaction with the state. I am sure you will also incorporate a more nuanced analysis that has come in the wake of the works of Tala Asad, Saba Mahmood etc Humeira Iqtedar too has worked in the context of Pakistan. thanks.

What I have read about secularism is different from your narrative. Secularism emerged in west against the dominance of religious dogmas and interference with rationality and later used in different settings and orders to suit their environment. Though the secularism narrated by you is good for all human beings and Muslims too but the tolerance without the name of secularism had been in practice in the state of Madina at prophet (pbuh) time in Islamic history. Moreover, this jamat e hind no good for Muslims in India.

@@naturegirl4803 that is the natural culmination of it.when you are going to leave out religion from legislation you get separation of religion and state and if you do mix the two then by definition you will be creating different classes of people based on their religious Identity and that's what is described in this video,watch it properly....you can never have secularism (of any defination) if you wish to involve religion in legislative processes neither you can attain equality in any meaningful way...

Secularism is: any social system which stands without any religious influence but anchor person saying it means discrimination with more than one religion or religious person. Because religion stands without evidence or proof of social benefits while God will guide you which is different from person to person. In other words secularism belongs to science and technology whatever you prove by experiments and evidence.
@irfanahmed2101 Жыл бұрын
there is different context here in India, here secularism is just a saving from hindu rashtra, here BJP wanted to impose hindu laws in muslim personal things, that's why here in India we support secularism, here in India there is laws prevalent in our contexts that discriminate on the basis of religion, like quota, citizenship law etc etc,

Don't you think these religious figures are taking such a stand at a time in india , where if you utter anything about their religious would get easily trolled or called a kind of terrorist. The same ulemas would have taken an overtly religious stand and invoked the prowess of their God. Also don't you know that political stand is taken by parties or religious groups purely based on numerical strength? The true intent of politicians is known only when they have the power to rule or when they the power to dictate it.

It is because I have genuine love and respect for the Holy Prophet PBUH. He was a revolutionary leader who stood for the downtrodden. He has been my inspiration since I was a child.
