it's why all political discussions should be based around policy and personal ethics if you're taking to a friend of family, and they start bringing up the opinions of people who are not part of the conversation, there is no fair end game for either person involved wether or not these people are real, we should always prioritize personal ethics I get that to some degree, the behaviors of others should be part of policy but it's important to frame the conversation around the assumption that most people are good caring people, even if they have bad opinions as soon as you start basing ethics and policy around the worst possible people, or under the assumption that most people are evil you begin to justify cruelty and isolation. Think about every conservative policy, they almost all make sense if you and your friends are the only "good" people never fall for this trap, it's easy, it's easy to become jaded and think the world is a horrible place but if our goal is progress, we need to trust each other more than anything, and recognize that we are better than the few outspoken trolls regardless of if they actually believe what they are saying keep in mind, IF this account was real, it still doesn't actually represent leftism, it represents racism disguised as leftism

Actually it started around 2015, kicked off with the first adpocalypse, but there were earlier signs it was heading the way it went. The introduction of the media hub on Facebook was one of the early signs along with APM generated articles populating google searches. Now the algorithms on Google searches only allow a finite of sites to be searched, many times repeating the same links even with the omitted portions being largely the same links with the addition of maybe a site or two added to the 44 pages you are allowed on some subjects, whereas you use to go back thousands of pages if you really wanted to. It is also peculiar to note that they tell you they have over 6,000000000 keyword references within their database for a particular search result but instead shows you so little of it while limiting your access to the rest. On top of that, what is shown is largely "authoritative" sources, which is really CIA, establishment, corporate claptrap or controlled ops. The internet at point along many other search engines are the "Truman Show" versions of what the internet used to be.

For example, according to studies the 2nd shot of the Moderna jab has a high risk of myocarditis for young men. Which lead to some countries halting it. (SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination and Myocarditis in a Nordic Cohort Study of 23 Million Residents) Heck the Aztraseneca one was banned in the US. So, wanting safe vaccines, does not make you anti-vaxx.

I've always noticed this in social media (Twitter, Reddit, Disqus etc.), where some centrist or right-wing or left-wing poster appears to be propagating contentious, emotionally-charged replies or threads that only intend to provoke strong reactions and disrupt any meaningful debate. It has become challenging to know whether or not it's a user that's just blindly venting or just a bot these days. I'm familiar with the patterns of rage-farming and shit-posting, I grew up lurking in forums and sites that survive(d) on it (I know some of you know what sites I'm talking about, but some us eventually learn to grow the f*ck up someday, hopefully for most, mid-to-late 20s), and it still seems rather hard for the average online user to understand these concepts (especially underage users), in order to not fall for it (remember, don't feed the troll?). This type of user behavior has grown throughout the years (more bots more problems?) and has become a popular means of engagement for social media and news sites (unbeknownst to the average online user or not), and seems to be pretty hot amongst internet marketers to drive increased activity (successfully or not) on internet platforms. The fact that our parents (and their grandparents) grew up around corporations that pushed propagandized news articles and reports that are often sensationalized or have misleading headlines (or just plain fake news) to garner attention, has heavily influenced the current generations to fall and listen to the same tune, so now in the internet age with the existence of bots and algorithmic recommendation systems, this has greatly intensified the problem. Information is just being thrown at our face, and forces the average overwhelmed-information-overloaded-user to just take the headline as a fact until someone can prove otherwise. These systems now exacerbate the existing polarization in politics (like a bad cop serving the interests of the prison-industrial complex), particularly by rage baiting (bots) or suggesting polarizing content to users who predominantly consume media from the other side of the political spectrum and vice versa and anything in-between. And unfortunately, whenever these big corporate-owned sites are forced to pretend to take responsibility, it's always in the form of blanket censorships and their statements always seem be boiled down to "Blame the government, not me" even though their vampiric shit-posting investors and shareholders have contributed to the propaganda shit-show 'game' that is American politics for so long (looking at you Wall Street), along with the ruling class of seemingly immortal bigoted politicians and profit-driven entrepreneurs. I'm a leftist coming from a VERY conservative family, but no matter what part of the political spectrum I assume, or someone evidently represents, I always ask myself, is this person for real and what are they trying to actually promote? And I take any angrily-frothing netizen with a grain of salt. You bringing awareness should show anyone you're not a grifter, and I appreciate you bringing up topics like this that respect your audiences' intelligence :) Elon is a clown.

I wrote my capstone in college on social media misinformation. It is a huge issue but I am doubtful it will ever be corrected because the solution doesn't line up with the profit motive of social media companies.

There is a really fascinating study published in 2021 by a guy named Mosleh called "Shifting attention to accuracy can reduce misinformation online." where they found that telling people directly that they're sharing misinformation, actually causes them to share even MORE disinformation. However, he messaged these accounts and sent them a fake article asking for help. He said he needed them to tell him if the article was disinformation or not. When he did that, people shared LESS disinformation. But that takes a lot of individual actions, and isn't something that can be done with one policy change. One sweeping change that would be a huge benefit, (in my opinion) is simply requiring people to submit their ID when they make an account. Anonymity has it's benefits but people are more likely to behave erratically online if their identity is unknown. When people call Twitter or another platform the modern "public square" they're not really looking at it accurately. It was harder to fake your identity back then because everyone saw your face! Nobody would be trusting an anonymous guy named "catturd2" who covers his face.

Since u asked Kyle: no, I don't see more bots on Twitter, for my feeds anyway. There's still some bots yes, particularly in fishy DMs and new not accounts trying to follow you, but, it's generally gotten better in my experience as far as weird auto replies, spam, etc.
