I've been wanting an electric burner or hot plate for quite some time now and am so excited to finally have one! The one I chose to buy is the Secura Duxtop Cooktop which is an induction burner.

Did any plastic on the side melt since this video? Some people are making complaints about that. It happens when you heat up a large pan for a long time and the heat starts to reach the plastic sides of the cooker.

Wilhelm Scream I've only used it a few times since posting this video. I haven't noticed any issues with the sides melting but the temperature gets pretty high. I have a gas stove at home and am used to being able to see how much heat is going into the pan. With this, I'm not used to the temperature controls yet so I've had the heat too high for the few times I've used it and had issues with oil splattering as a result. Other than that, the only other complaint I have is the noise which isn't terribly annoying (comparable to a vent hood). I will keep an eye out for the plastic on the sides next time I use it! all stainless steel is not magnetic. just make sure it is or it should say on the bottom of the pan if it is induction compatible

Do you have to use a special pan

It works with most pots and pans as long as they are made using a magnetic material such as steel, cast iron, most stainless steel, even ceramic-clad and enamel. I believe the only pans that don't work are ones made from only aluminum, glass, or copper. Even then, if it as a layer of a magnetic metal within the pan, it should work just fine.

You have no idea if this is a true 1800W cooktop if you don't measure the input wattage. Duxtop is known for inflating its wattage rating. 9100MC is only 1400W. You also didn't measure the temperature when you set it at specific temperature. If you did, you will find that it is grossly inaccurate. And you didn't use a audio spectrum meter (available for free for all smart phones) to see the noise level and frequency. If you did, you should find that there is a large peak at about 20kHz (a lower peak at 17KHz). Your hearing may not be able to hear it, but a lot of people can.

tatripper I’m sorry you had issues with this cooktop. I have metal pans and haven’t had any issues with pots or pans not working on it. My only issue is it gets really hot so it takes a bit of time to get used to the temperature settings.
