Indeed the one to one bond up to the age of one year is very important. However the scenario played for research here is quite one dimensional. If just before leaving the room the mother looks face to face to the child and says: I am just going to walk out of the room but will be back shortly - and making sure the child's attention is with her - you are likely to get a different result. The issue of the lack of proper communication with infants is often ignored.
