Great video! I have just a few comments: 1. As commented before, opening ports, especially common used ports such as 80 and 443, to the public internet, is not that great idea. You rely on password protection, but any misconfiguration or brute force or a bug might let unauthorized people into your NVR. 2. DDNS is a great idea in general, but there are some ISPs who don't have enough public IPs so they have another NAT level in their equipment. You can verify this by surfing to those "what is my ip" style websites, which tell you your real public IP as seen by the public internet. If this is different than what your router IP indicates it has received using DHCP on the WAN port, the DDNS will probably not work. In this case you should ask your ISP to not put you behind their NAT. 3. In some routers (e.g. open source OpenWRT) you can configure the DNS name you use in your DDNS service to point to the internal IP address (192.168.x.y). This way, if you are inside your LAN, the router's internal DNS service will give you the internal IP address for the DDNS domain name you have configured. And if you are on the public internet, a DNS request will be answered by the real DDNS service with your external IP address. This way you will not have to define 2 "locations" on your phone app. The same DNS name should be resolved to the relevant IP address, depending on your current phone active connection: home Wifi or cellular data. (Assuming there is not DNS caching in your phone app or OS, so it knows how to differentiate between IP addresses according to the network in use). 4. Workaround to the widely opened-to-the-wild ports issue is to use a VPN. I am using WireGuard which is free and open source. You have to install it both on your router (I am using open source OpenWRT, so there's already a plugin for that) and your phone or PC or other client device you use. This way, you don't need DDNS at all. With a single click you activate the VPN and you can instantly use these internal IPs as you are physically in your local network. This is much safer than a relying on NVR password while opening the ports world-wide. Even network scanners used by hackers cannot discover that you are using WireGuard on UDP port. And besides, WireGuard uses a much stronger token for authentication than a password that a human need to remember.

You can monitor more than one DVR / location using video management software for Mac and Windows. This is possible with our Viewtron security camera DVRs and NVRs. You can find a video demo on this page that shows the software monitoring multiple locations. www.cctvcamerapros.com/viewtron-security-cameras-s/1476.htm

Why do you need to port forward both http and server if you only use the http port (80)?
@cctvcamerapros4 күн бұрын
You must port forward both the HTTP and server port because not all of the communication between Viewtron NVRs / DVRs and the mobile app happen on the HTTP port. The server port is used for some communication.

You forgot one huge fact to state. A DDNS service ONLY converts a numerical ip address to a name. That's all it does it goes not update an IP address if it changes... And neither does the NVR when programming the ddns host name. Just reboot the isp modem and you'll see the IP address change and you lost remote connection. There has to be an IPDATE AGENT running on the network. Either on a computer on the network running all the time or use the built in UODATE AGENT on the DHCP host (router) . Ever wonder what the DDNS menu in the routers programing under the firewall rules or security was for? And no, it's not built into the ISPs router you have to use your own
@cctvcamerapros2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bobby. This is not correct. All of our Viewtron hybrid security camera DVRs and IP camera NVRs have a built-in DDNS agent that automatically keeps the IP address of your Internet connection up to date. If your modem reboots and the ISP assigns your Internet connection a different IP address, the DDNS service on the Viewtron recorder automatically updates the IP address. IP Camera NVRs. www.cctvcamerapros.com/IP-Camera-NVRs-s/1472.htm Hybrid BNC DVRs. www.cctvcamerapros.com/Security-Camera-DVRs-s/1467.htm Please let us know if you have any questions.

Why use a local login when you're on the home network? I assume you're using the cable companies router. They don't have loop back capabilities. You do know what the loopback feature on a router is? A feature that allows you to be on your local network, go out to the WAN, and loopback in. So one logon is only needed. The domain name assigned to you by the DDNS. But you posted your video using a Linksys router. Most Linksys router have loopback

Too bad it can't be easy by connecting your surveilance cameras to your phone jack in the wall without using the internet, then from any location phone your home phone number using your smart phone and then select view surveilance cameras to view them on your smart phone screen.

Unfortunately, that technology does not exist. In order to enable remote viewing of security cameras, the only practical solution is to use an Internet connection.

@@JagathSelvans Yes that is true. You can use a cellular Internet connection to connect the Ethernet port to. However, there is no built-in cellular module. I may have misunderstood and that that is what he was asking.
