Security Light Installation Part 8: Setting Timer and Sensitivity Controls on PIR

This video breaks down the basic settings (timer and sensitivity) for setting up your security light'd PIR (passive infrared) sensor. This 180-degree PIR can detect motion up to a 70-foot range and has a motion sensor that turns on light only during nighttime hours, when motion is detected. The unit also features a control function for manual override, and a built-in light sensor so it will not come on during daytime hours.

When it’s set on dusk till dawn that means it roll turn on with motion starting on dusk all the way to dawn ? Basically saying will it detect motion starting sun down to run up

The security light will always work from dusk to dawn unless you put the fixture into manual override. If you have a low beam area light feature, you can set that for dusk to dawn. The low beam area light will turn on at dusk and off at dawn. The light will get brighter when triggered.

Do you have to turn the device off to take it out of test mode or do you leave the power on when you move it out test mode?

I just installed one of these yesterday during the day.. all was good after I installed it and tried it out when it got dark.. worked great!! after waking towards it about a half dozen times the light wouldn't come on untiI actually got to the door.. why is this? Why did it not work the same? Before that I did adjust the time and distance.. do I have to shut the power off in order to reset it and adjust it again?

4:37 I mean yeah if they haven't left after 5 minutes you'd want to be able to see them, So that you can tell if they have a weapon & if they are trying to get into the house or garage, or need to intervene. 6:01 is the answer btw.

Mine has a knob called "ACCENT", any ideas what it does? it's old and called EML-100. thanks

Are you sure this is a Good Earth Lighting fixture and not another manufacturer?

@@GoodEarthLighting It's an old EML, I found out that Accent is a fine adjustment that works with Sensitivity... somehow.

Everytime I turn my switch of during the day, when I switch it back on in the even my motion light resets and I have to go back to test to get it back working correctly..... should I just leave my wall switch on all the time????

Yes. These fixtures are designed with the intention that the switch will be in the on position at all times. The fixture will not activate in daylight. The switch needs to remain on so the fixture can hold settings and acclimate.

If the fixture has a PIR sensor there is no way to permanently override it. Unless it has a switch control option on one of the dials/settings knobs.

He always had good success with these until this new one I just purchased. On the facia of a garage and need it to trip at 180 degrees approx 17 feet. No matter the sensitivity setting it turns on at about 5 feet. The timer works fine. Have not tried the test mode. Have the sensor aimed downwards. Thiinking it shouldnt be hard.
